I believe you need a good small team with close collaborations. When the team is too big, everyone works on their own thing and the player will find the fluidity of your game to be bad. If the mapping style is different every map you change, or the graphics are different because four people worked on them, it won't look seamless.That being said, I saw your project's topic and I must say, it is very wel presented and looks fun.
