pRoX
I'm in the process of making my first map, and I was wondering if the number of layers (ground, mask 1/2, etc) had any impact on the performance of the server?I'm making an experimental map with the default tiles and I'm using a pattern that's heavy on layers. It probably won't make into the game but it would be nice to know for future reference. Thanks in advance!P.S: woot pedobear? :renzo:
emblem
The number of layers that you actully use really shouldn't affect performance.
pRoX
Cool. I was worried because I'm pretty much using ground, mask 1/2, and fringe 1/2 all in the same square for a large portion of the map. :PThanks again!
emblem
Nah it's cool. Good maps make use of all the layers but fringe 2 usually.
pRoX
Guess I can use this thread to ask another question. Is there a way to make the tiles change when a player uses a command or key? Like a door going from closed to open?
Mr. Bob Firefarter
Not without sourcing, or maybe scripting.

zearth
there actually are door / key attributes though that would work like that
Mr. Bob Firefarter
Yes, but he wanted to do it with interaction, or a command.

Mr. Bob Firefarter
Well, I know… :PIt's be nice if you could get it to open whenever you walked on it.
pRoX
Can you explain what you mean DNA Virus? I saw the Door attribute but didn't know how it worked.
Mr. Bob Firefarter
Well, I don't know how to work that. :embarrassed:
pRoX
:PI'm sure someone out there must know though…I'm gonna see if I can find a tutorial on it.
Admiral Refuge
@pRoX:> :P> > I'm sure someone out there must know though…> > I'm gonna see if I can find a tutorial on it.Just tinker with the attributes; I think it does something to the Fringe 2 layer. You'll end up with a more intuitive understanding of the engine in the end anyway.
Elenfir
You can script a sprite change on the map when using CTRL. You could also do a "mini" source edit. ex. make TAB or some other button that aren't used to call up a script in your main.txt like a "dooropener" or something like that.Command in VB is called vbKeyButton where button is the button you wanna you wanna use I think. And I think it is in the ModGameLogic file, but not sure since I'm at work :)
pRoX
Cool mate, I might go with your suggestion in the future. It's become more of a problem now that I've been thinking of making roof disappear once a player goes inside a house per say. Though I'm sure that would be a lot more problematic since the tiles would have to change only to the player entering the house. Thanks again!
