The difference is PNG have Alpha Channel.If you save the image from PNG to 24-Bit BMP, you'll be fine.If you still want to use PNG in your game, you'll have to convert from Dx7 to Dx8, which is a lot of work, don't even ask how. The client will take the color of the top left most pixel in your sprite & render that transparent ingame. If white won't work for you then use paint to recolor the background.
