IS there anyway to set it up so that it the map appears slowly instead of popping up, so it looks like its scrolling?

Short answer, No.

Long answer, It MIGHT, and thats a verry big might, if you find an Expert in the graphics rendering who is willing to help you with that. but they most likely wont just Give it to you either.

Good lick with finding help ^_^ you can blame me for being a stick in the mud if you accualy do get what you want =D

The way to do it would be to load the maps around the one you are currently on so it creates the illusion of one big map. This is probably a very hard programming task though.

Just make the map really big in map properties. Go into map editor and hit the properties button, X and Y options should be there. Change them to the max which is 255.

1) SLOW NPC movement, even if you raise the max NPCs that would make it even WORSE.

2) MONSTER LAG

3) loading would be Shit

4) the server can't handle saving that. (saving large maps crashed my server)

Larger maps is not a good idea…
