Copyright laws?

You want to copyright your game, but illegally use Enterbrain's graphics? And if someone does use it, you'll sue them how? Don't go there.

If you haven't even made custom graphics I doubt you've got anything worth copyrighting, and doing so in the first place is a bad idea.

Why on Earth would you want to anyway?

Nope, starter graphics are for demonstration purposes only. They belong to Enterbrain Inc., are already copyrighted, and are only licensed for use in certain cases. Therefore, you can't copyright them, and you're not legally allowed to use them. (If you don't respect the copyright law, nobody has to either.)

You also can't copyright the engine, because it's not yours. [You are licensed to use the engine, under these terms.](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,29732.0.html) You can, however, copyright the graphics, your storyline, et cetera. But, you might want to read [this](http://copyright.gov/docs/fees.html), copyrighting costs quite a bit.

Read the post (I updated it), you can copyright your own graphics, but:

* Enterbrain's graphics are already copyrighted.
* You are using their graphics.
* You wish to sue somebody… for using graphics you copyrighted/want to copyright. Why the double standard?

In UK copyright is automatic ([see this](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berne_Convention_for_the_Protection_of_Literary_and_Artistic_Works) but more importantly [this](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Intellectual_Property_Organization_Copyright_Treaty)). The reason for a copyright is to prove that the work is yours.

Aiden, the graphics shown there are used for demonstration purposes only. You cannot copyright them, they are not yours. Neither is Origins. Eclipse Origins and all other engines before are not yours.

You must credit others, and you cannot charge people for works done with other people's advancements in programming or graphic design.

Case closed on my part.
