  1. > $1 per slot? I can get a 100mb vps for a few bucks a month. Does your server have a 3d gfx card? It's a one time thing. You get 100 players online indefinitely and yes. Donating is to support Eclipse, this is just extra. Also, it wouldn't run at full speed. The CPU would be locked to sleep, you would have to pay monthly for that.
  2. I also want to add that, we may do it where, if you donate $5 you can have 5 people online at once on average. If your game exceeds that amount, you would have to donate more. So basically if you donate $100 you can have 100 people on average. If that makes any sense?
  3. We're allowing people who donate to the site's expenses once, to host their game on our server. If the server starts to take up a lot, it would resort to paid monthly, but if you just need a host to make your game and have donated, just send me or Link a private message. This may not be permanent, but for now we want to try to give something back to donors. Your files will be returned to you properly if we end this service.
  4. > I'm a retired staff >_>, I'm also an oldschool member and I'm freaking awesome… I used to even have my own user group... CREST IS COOL TOO! You would have to ask @[member="Link"]. :P I would give it to you, but I think there's a reason why you don't have it.
  5. > Not to rain on your glory, but it wouldn't be a meetup without some of eclipse's more popular members… like Marshy dearest... and Pimp Lord Rich. It goes both ways. **Legends** group is technically staff, just retired.
  6. I am not so uptight in person. ;) Honestly though, the staff would have to come or else it wouldn't really be a real meetup.
  7. My engine uses FSM, you can use those in a commercial project. My spell icons, item icons, and resources you cannot. Mostly, character sprites and tilesets are FSM except a few, you will be able to see the difference in the style.
  8. **Sekaru** was right, I think for once. Poll being closed. Too many members causing drama and has really burnt me out of my volunteer position. I am taking a break from **Eclipse**.
  9. > You _already_ gave up when people weren't jumping over themselves to sign up to your independent site for Eclipse Worlds. PLEASE prove me wrong in thinking that you'll just give up again when you don't get all the cash you think you deserve. I didn't give up even when I was independent. My updates were still coming. I got stuck on the quest system being dynamic. It is a lot harder than you think when structs max at 64k bytes. I was making the engine for **Silverdale**. I said this many times.
  10. > Do you or do you not think that your LIFE-FUNDING JOB is coding in VB6 for Eclipse? No, I am working here to try to attract more developers into the MMORPG market. I don't plan to make a living off of **Eclipse**.Some people would say **To the Moon** is crap cause it was made in **RPG Maker XP**. The same individuals who think **Visual Basic 6** is crap. It is outdated yes, but if people use it well it can do great things. I actually prefer COM over .NET since it is slower, the only problem with **VIsual Basic 6 **is multi-threads and an updated IDE. The reason why Microsoft dropped it was due to the COM-architecture they had was very frail and caused problems with compatibility. **Ruby **is another prime example which I can code in, I can code in .NET, and many other languages. I do not see your point, whatever language I pick as a developer is of my concern. I am eventually going to move to .NET in the coming months. This engine is a stepping stone. What people do not understand is when you try to do too much, you **FAIL**. So instead of trying to carry the world, I do it a step at a time, and if I would fail due to my task being too big, I cut part of the job and release what I did. It is how I actually release work and don't ultimately give up. I go to college and work at **Wal-mart**. It's a stepping stone, everyone has to do it to make it in the real world. I am doing this to practice working on big environments and to be successful in my career.
  11. > Oh my goodness. This isn't your job… Or, at least I don't think. If you regard programming in VB6 for Eclipse as your job, then I should think it is YOU that needs to start living in the real world. A language doesn't matter! It is the results you get from it. I am already planning on moving to a better language and when I do, you will be bitching, so cut it out and quit being negative.
  12. > This is stupid, I'm gonna go make my own eclipse, with black jack… and hookers, ya know what, just forget the eclipse thing. What is the problem? I do a lot of charitable work, but how about you go work at your job for free? Just cause it is a hobby to you, doesn't mean it is free work. Stop complaining and start living in the real world.
  13. > Would be really easily to host ads and bring in all the money you need that way. Almost all current websites run off advertisment and not donations or subscriptions. I will add it in today and see the results. **Donators ** and **Gold Members** will not see ads.
  14. We can have rewards for the amount you donate similar to **Kickstarter**. I made this topic to know what direction the community wanted to go, which is why I gave examples of what I thought up. This wasn't meant to be a do one or the other, so I shouldn't of made it a poll, but it was merely to see which was more desirable to do. Then we could get feedback and make adjustments where needed.
  15. > Not saying it would solve the issue, but I'd rather pay $25 and get a T-Shirt than to just donate $25. That's reasonable, which is why I was going to give **Donators** the ability to download my engine for free.
  16. I don't think **Eclipse** can be ran off of merchandise no offense. Donation model for progress is the best approach. Once, I actually have a good base to work with, **Eclipse** can set goals for big updates such as a new server or toolset which would be completely open-source.
  17. > You're entitled af, but I have no further comment. Go on with your silly debates, Eclipse. You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time. That's all I got to say to haters like you, who don't do anything but bring others down.
  18. > I'll most likely make a thread for it later, but if you want me to continue the development of EO just hit the **Like** button of this post. No man. If I felt entitled I would take some money from the donations, I actually turned it down on the donations. You are just wrong and spreading lies. If you look, the donations all go to @[member="Link"].
  19. > Kinda ironic how just months earlier this same person quit supporting Eclipse Worlds cause not enough people were kissing his arse and buying the 'Gold' addition. > > > > Have you no shame? My goodness. I still thought it was the best. I just believe in using my time to be productive and donating my time to people entirely is not what I consider 'effective' use of my time. Donating my time to some degree is fine, which I already explained how I fixed that in the shoutbox.
  20. I've added a **Donation Sidebar**.The total cost for the site is $119, it is set to $125 for handle fees. * You will be automatically placed in the **Donator** group upon donation and when you donate, you will get 500 forum points per dollar you donate. * It will keep track of donations at a monthly basis and automatically. * You may only donate $5 and above and are limited to $100 per donation.
  21. > My gold status should transfer over, since EW is here and has replaced EO my status should move with the product. Kind of bummed it wasnt automatically (obviously not by it self) assumed it should happen. Right now, there are no perks for being a **Gold Member** . This poll is to determine the direction the site will be going. My website is not going anywhere, I am rebranding it to **Sllverdale**.
  22. > And for the record, I'm a gold member on Seths forum, hoping that will transfer here then? I have donated to LoA and bought gold too so my status should come here too. I may give **Gold Members** on both sites access to all my plugins for free. > EW is better than EO 4+ and I'll admit that, but it is an EO engine too… Anyways, to add on to tehdoug, closed plugins does NOT mean closed source, the engine will stay open source, the donations will go to the site, not Seth unless you donate directly to him. 70% of the plugin sales will go to me. I actually will take a hit like everyone else who uses the plugin system I make. Think of me as a developer who makes new features like a **Pokemon Battle System** and sells it on the download center. I am not taking money from the cash pot at the top. > > * We ask a set amount of money and put 75% or more of it into the project, the other 25% goes to the site costs. 75% goes to the goal we have set. For example, a goal of making the **Eclipse** website move to **Xenforo** forum software, we have a donation goal of $500\. To pay for the forum license and paying **Wing** to make a theme for it. This is not a case we are going to do likely, but it is just an example. I may change it to be 100% if the download center makes enough to pay for the hosting. This is just to get feedback about the future of **Eclipse** and is not set in stone.
  23. > I know what a library, all you said was "Architecture" If you're going to write a post about monetization on eclipse, write it, in detail, explaining all the importance of things you know will cause controversy, because all this posts sounds like is a way for you to get money in your own pocket. I won't get the money that the download center makes. That will go toward the hosting costs. I will make money by making plugins. People act like if you do work it is worthless around **Eclipse**.If you can actually finish something that you start I would listen, but people who act like that are usually lazy and inefficient workers. They are envious that they can't finish what they start.
  24. > I didnt even know EO had stopped and EW took its places, How did I not know this! Either way, I was my donations to goto site costs only. That is what sparked the community to ask for the donations thing in the first place. Not choose this way or that way we just wanted a simple Donation Graph type gadget to donate to help Link with the site. There were many announcements I made about it… This is just to see where the community stands. Donation graphs are simple. This is a future event that will happen later down the road of **Eclipse**.** Eclipse **has been on the brink of destruction for a long time, it takes a change for it to grow and prosper.
  25. A library is not software - a library enhances software. My plugin API will be closed-source, but people do not have to use plugins, they are optional. The engine will be completely free and open-source. Plugins will be made by the community similar to **Sadscript**.
