  1. > If they hadn't put you on the team, this topic wouldn't of been made. Case closed. That's a logical fallacy. I could of suggested it to them. Stop trying to prove your point and grasping at straws.
  2. > That's not derailing the topic. That's a fact/statement to why there's no point in having this topic. No, you were complaining that it was a mistake to hire me, that's derailing and off-topic. This post is entirely about shoutbox avatars, it isn't about the administration or what they are doing is wrong.
  3. > 1st mistake was letting Seth onto the development team after him being banned a few days before he got the position. (-1 administration) I am actually doing work not sitting around claiming to do things like what most administrators do. It's a lot different, really. You can say whatever you want, stop derailing the topic. If you have something to complain about, do it properly. This post was fine, I am sorry that you have a problem with it.
  4. > I don't even get why you're asking Eclipsians for their opinion on what to do next, it's not like that tactic has ever worked well in the past. ¬_¬ I was told to poll it. I didn't even mention bringing it back, I just brought it up asking why it was removed. It wasn't me who was like I must have it back. You don't know what people like to be honest. The majority rules the minority, this isn't a dictatorship anymore, Carim.
  5. > When did we have shoutbox avatars? It was when I was messing with the shoutbox. > Except it's _not_ a waste of space, because it's completely out of your way unless if you actually intend to use it. It's an annoying popup though! You don't take sarcasm very good, do you? It's really, the same basis. It's functionality built-in to save time. Small shoutbox avatars may look fugly to you, but when they save time, it is of little concern. They look fine. We can increase the font of the shoutbox/line size if need be to make them a little bigger.
  6. > It's functionally offering _nothing_. Why not just go to their profile every time. The user profile card is a waste, too in your definition. The thing that putting avatars in the shoutbox is to save time, just as the user profile card does. I can recognize the avatars immediately even if they are that small. If I have trouble, I can hover over it.
  7. > If somebody changes their name but appears familiar…hover over their name! The user profile card is much slower than just displaying a bigger version of the image. I have to wait almost 2 seconds. I can see the avatar just fine that tiny anyway.
  8. > But surely at that point it just increases the (already pretty much perfect) line height and wastes even more space? Hover over can make a popup displaying the full size avatar.
  9. > Are we talking separate from your forum avatar? No. We can make the avatars bigger.
  10. This is a poll to decide if Eclipse will use avatars in shouts. Someone complained to Wing about it and had them removed.
  11. Visual Basic 6 being converted to VB.Net is stupid. Just code it from scratch.
  12. > Nothing has been said about VB6 being bad. But as I know, VB6 does not know definition "dynamic". If I'm not mistaken, M$'s office 2003 was written on VB6. > > Each sheet with columns/rows is static. So if you create 50 sheets, no matter how powerful your PC will be, it'll become very laggy. Thus M$ rewrote their VB6 into vb.net which was mostly based on c#? Which means, that nowadays excels won't become laggy because of having lots of sheets, due to them being dynamic. (They exist only if they contain something unlike static in vb6, where they exist no matter if they contain something or not, thus bringing more load on ram). You don't use Visual Basic 6's built in UI components like picture boxes. They are extremely inefficient. The reason we use it still is cause this engine has been developed for such a long time and restarting will take a long time to get back to where we are now. The upgrade is definitely worth it, but it's a long process and does not come easily.
  13. I love Cyberpunk and Mechas, hopefully you'll have both. :)
  14. Good luck. :D I was apart of Mirage Realms back in the days of Jacob. It was the first engine I used to program in (not to say that this is an engine anymore), before that I was only doing sadscript.
  15. Looks good, you should get away from using trademark names. It's awesome to use an anime to use as inspiration for a game though.
  16. You need a degree to get a job in most serious places, or an awesome example that you can prove to demonstrate your skills. People can lie and cheat, to get a job, which is why diplomas are taken more seriously since they are much harder to cheat.
  17. > I know a lot of people like perma death, mostly for bragging rights, while it is true that from a game design perspective, it really does aim for a rather specific audience, and a lot of people do not like it because it is very unforgiving, and can be discouraging and bad for the community, it can be done in ways to make it less so, I believe PoE does it well, while it's not truly permanent death, since your character does not disappear, it does however move the character from the "Hardcore" server to the "normal" server, you can do it in many similar ways. Yes it is true, it is not for a general audience. It is why MMOs are making their games more casual, to make it more forgiving to those who are not very good or able to stick it out if something bad happens to them. It's basically babying your players, which I hate to be honest. The permadeath moving from a hardcore to normal server is probably the best approach with the system to get as many people playing your game as possible even more so than if your game didn't offer permadeath, because that minority of player base will play your game that hadn't and the other group of players who hate it, have nothing to fuss about. I also did not realize PoE did that, it was something I never thought of doing before.
  18. > The lack of game design skill here jeez. Permadeath goes against pretty much every design goal of MMOs. Is there anything actually unique about this apart from the fact that you're using some other franchise's ideas? Permadeath is fine as long as there is a reward or an incentive to restart, such as when you die, you keep parts of your previous character - etc. It's doable, just game designers aren't really that willing to go that deep into uncharted territory. By charted I mean, World of Warcraft is charted territory, because it has proven to work. Permadeath has never been done right yet, it is something very difficult to do.
  19. I am working on integrating the good code of the engine into Eclipse Worlds such as the UI, skin editor, and pet system. I will continually optimize and revamp the code as I improve it.
  20. > Id be intrested in helping out. Specifficaly art, little programming, writing, Content Developer! Send me a message on Skype.
  21. We're still looking for a developer.
  22. I linked to it on my site, nice job.
  23. ![](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/67149765/Nin%20Online/Facebook%20Cover.png) **Introduction** We are looking for skilled individuals that are willing to dedicate themselves in getting better and working on astounding projects at an indie level. While we want people who are talented and experienced, something that is so much more important is dedication and passion, so don't hesitate if you have these characteristics. We believe in making games for fun and getting better over making a paycheck since you know only good people make it in the industry or corporations with lots of money to throw. _This game is commercial and aimed at making money. We eventually plan to go through **Steam Greenlight** and possibly **Kickstarter** to fund a more sophisticated engine._ **Concept** **Nin Online** is a 2-D MMORPG, set in a universe inspired by **Naruto**. We're kind of taking concepts such as naming our villages after an element, but are avoiding using names such as **Konoha**. We're also having a clan called the **Akatuski**, which is a player-ran **Organization** and will be our only name we use from the **Naruto** universe. What exactly makes this game awesome and not just some fan game that will just get shutdown? Well, we're completely aware of copyright breaches, and are making changes continually to stay in good relationship with the law. We're also going to have an **Organization** of staff members who host events. These events range from very basic ones such as a change in the game world to a battle against a staff member. We also have a huge focus on role-playing, there will actually be events focused around them such as becoming a leader of a village! The staff member's **Organization** will be more powerful than any clan in the game, they reside in a **Spirit Realm** type of area which is where **Chakra** - the game's **Mana** system comes from. This **Spirit Realm** is essentially the realm of God, the power of the world comes from this place, and it is where all that die go. This aspect of God does not imply that God is an entity, but a force of nature that resides over all of the world. This **Organization** will mostly be inspired by death, grim reaper, and other similar themes, and they will be able to control and summon powerful beasts similar to that of the **Nine Tailed Fox Beast** from **Naruto**. **Shinigami** is the current name we plan to call our **Organization**, think of staff members as the villains of the game that players get an opportunity to kill. If they get killed, a new character will be played by the staff member. We can't go fire people when they die! The two main factions are good and evil (light and dark). Good clans are typically the ones that belong to **Leaf** and **Sand** for example, whereas evil would be ones like the **Akatuski**. There will be choices in the game which allow you to pick your side: good or evil, and your clan when you make your character. You may be able to change your clan later, but that is not yet decided, it likely will be possible though. _We are not merging **Bleach** with **Naruto** here, you will not be able to become a **Soul Reaper**, but there are many examples of **Shinigami** in [**Naruto**](http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Shinigami). We will have different levels of **Shinigami**, and staff members will be the highest level of these **Shinigami** which cannot be summoned by Ninjas._ **Previews** These are some video examples of what the game has to offer so far! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DydAgiIkdCs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-J_rIpTfxQ _The game is still in alpha, we're aware that a lot of polish needs to go through still to make it a truly awesome game._ **Benefits** * You can expand your portfolio as a game developer to get your foot into the door. * Not professional game developers, but we listen and learn from our failed experiences which drive us forward so that we can get better and learn. * Work on our project daily, here to chat if you are struggling on something you are assigned, and always showing ourselves better ways to do things. * Friendly to work with, don't force you to contribute any amount of hours, and like to have fun. * You get to play the game before anyone else! **Positions** If your position is not listed you may still apply. We're always looking for more talented people to work with, but our standards for you will be higher than a position we desperately need. * One programmer that excels in HTML, CSS, and PHP. You will be responsible for the website programming and must be able to do WordPress and Invision Power Board including combining the two together/turning a PSD into a theme. * Two to three game developers to make game content, you need to be familiar with [**Eclipse Origins**](http://eclipseorigins.com/community/) editors. * One video editor that can make **YouTube** videos that demonstrate previews, trailers, and livestreams. You must be able to use **Twitch** and dissect highlights as well as get footage from players to make appealing content. * One sound composer to make custom sound effects for the game, you will be given sample sounds and expected to remake them to fit a **Japanese** culture. We give our composers creative freedom to make it how they feel is the best. **Contact** Please send me some examples of your work on **Skype** via Helladen or **Google Talk** via [email protected], or just send me a personal message here with examples of your work, but try to do the first rather than latter. Please do not spam me, or I will block you.
  24. > An enjoyable read with solid points. Thanks. :) I am going to one day, write a game design book. This series is like a short version to kind of illustrate the basics. :P I need to read a lot of books before then though, to know how to stand out or just make a successful game, then people will just buy it cause of that.
  25. > Any idea on what exactly chapter 2 will be? Maybe in 2-3 days. :P I jump around a lot, don't know how to stick to one thing.
