Sprite making programs ?

I wanted to know about sprite making programs , I have never tried to make one , And i am new to sprite making so my sprites will be bad ...

Anyway , I was asking about sprite making programs , If you know any please give me it's site or download link .

I used CharCreator a little but i want a program that i can draw my own characters . If you know one please reply

thats easy, paint works good for that 

GraphicsGale is also good.

I tried the CharCreator and I love it, but I can't import or export? I press the buttons and nothing happens. So when I save and open in Adobe PS2 then save as BMP it doesn't work. Which I am sure has to do with the Import and Export? I am a newbie at this.

just tested it, export works fine, import works fine.

to save the sprite you made, you press save, not export, export is for exporting the pieces.

Is the pink background on the default sprites needed? Because when I put my file as a .bmp into the characters folder, it doesn't appear in game.
