i beleive in the script database there is a ascript for making books that can be read or written by players…

basically each premade book refers to an ini file with the text already in it.
each playermade book, refers to an ini created when the book/item is created and the texts is put in the ini via a write system.

What i mean by books is like books which tell you about the game for example;
a quest  book which lists all the quests or  a
book which like tell you about movement and the story of the game

You could script this either by making your own or going to - http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,7607.0.html

Or you could implement into the source yourself as I did (it's not very good but it works (sorta) for me).
