Mah first pixelart!

Ok guys, so here's my first pixelart… Is it good? What can I do to improve?

It's a sword, but what for a sword?

Let's begin with counting the colours used.


Six colours (excluding: black) seems to be neat. But, something remarkable is that the contrast is too low. Another thing I noticed is that you switched the hue in the gold-looking colour instead of luminosity. I suggest altering luminosity when applying lightning. Because when changing the hue, on the way you do, then you'll get closer and closer to orange instead of ochre.

Also, due the low contrast it's hard to tell where the light source actually is or is supposed to be.

Another thing you should work on is depth. The knot is extended when you plainly look at it, but it then again looks flat. So at one part the knot is part of the handle, but at another part the knot isn't. Unless you don't want a round knot, the knot should have more depth. Same goes for the connection between the handle and the blade.

So I'd give it a 6.5/10.
