Why is there only 3 sprites for each action?

That's how the engine is setup.
The first two, are for walking, and the third, is for the attack frame.

You can change it if you know VB, and have the source for the engine (but you'll need Visual Basic 6.0 to edit it).

EE3.0 (the new version coming out), will have upwards 8 or so differnet sprites, and multiple rows for one sprite.

I know a bit of VB, Enough to make somewhat major changes(Added a server select, and working on fullscreenish client). How hard will it be to convert to EE 3.0?
Heres the fullscreen I'm working on:

well then, Houston we have a problem :(. That means if I start making a game now, I'll have to totally restart it when 3.0 comes?
I took a course on java but I still don't know much. And that means I have to edit the source again. Damn! Whens the release date?

There is no current release date (it is too much pressure on the dev)

Though, I have a better answer for you.  This is what he said on 3.0:

> Its not 3x3, its n x 8\. You may have as many sprites across and its 8 rows. 4 for motion, 4 for attack.

Here's the topic on the Scripting system, where that is discussed: http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=42428.0

Also, I remember the dev saying that maps can be compatible, but scrolling maps will need a converter.
