JayT
what is it the you want to change in the .dat files? you can download the source for your server and edit them in vb6 i think i aint really looked at them as i dont see the need to :azn:
Kenshin
Our account/character files are all in.dat format and they need to be in .ini format for our comps to read them for some reason. We just want to be able to look at the individual character information by going to the files.
JayT
i dunno how u change them to ini? Also you would have to change ALOT of source/script code for you game to function correctly with the chars as ini's. All i know i your server and client reads these files and stores simple data like hp mp sp level e.t.c
emblem
Basically in plain English: It's hell trying to convert them all to ini, as then the server wouldn't understand them.Nor is there any tools written by people to convert them to ini files.^.^
Kenshin
I used to use eclipse and ALL of those files were .ini, I thought they were still supposed to be unless they changed the eclipse engine so that they're all .dat now..If so, what's a program I can use to read the .dat files because notepad on my computer isn't reading them
emblem
Yes, the developers changed to .dat files because it's quicker loading that way and generally better. Why exactly do you want to read the .dat files? If for no good reason then it's best to just leave them alone.
Kenshin
Oh, that makes more sense nowAnyway, we want to be able to read the .dat files so we can access our character information
Admiral Refuge
Please refer to this topic: http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,47949.0.htmlFor getting the character information, your best bet is simply [scripting it](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,48833.0.html); maybe I'll make an in-game character editor with custom menus.EDIY: Okay, I wrote the script: http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,49164.0.html
