**Installing ELI on Windows Vista and later**

**Introduction.**

Hello, I'm Stephan J.R. van Schaik, also known as Godlord, Goddie, etc. In this tutorial I will show you how to install the Eclipse Library Installer or ELI correctly on Windows Vista and later, if you're using Windows XP or prior then please refer to [this tutorial](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,50010.0.html).

If you don't know what operating system you're currently running then use [this tool](http://todo).

**A note before installing ELI.**

This tutorial has screenshots included but these may differ depending on your theme, version and settings.

**Acquiring ELI.**

You first need to download ELI which is described in [this topic](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,50052.0.html).

**Setting up ELI.**

Right-click 'Eclipse Library Install.exe' and a pop-up menu should appear:
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista3.png)

Select 'Properties', now a dialog should appear:
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista4.png)

Click on the tab called 'Compatibility'.
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista5.png)

Uncheck 'Run in 256 colors.'.
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista6.png)

Check 'Run this program as an administrator.'.
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista7.png)

**Compatibility mode (Only required for 64-bit).**

Check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'.
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista8.png)

Select 'Windows XP (Service Pack 3)' in the list, although it doesn't really matter, as long as it is Windows 2000 or later.
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista9.png)

**Installing ELI.**

Press on 'OK', if you still have the properties open.

Left-click on 'Eclipse Library Installer.exe' twice, the User Account Control might appear, just click on 'Yes'.

Now a dialog like this should appear:
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista10.png)

Just click on 'Next' and it will install, like shown in the picture below:
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista11.png)

When it is done, click on 'Next'.
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista12.png)

Now you can just click on 'Finish'.
![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p225/Godlord40/elivista13.png)

The Eclipse Library Installer should now be installed correctly.

Regards,
  Godlord.

@hotstix12:

> will the ELI for 2.8 also work for 2.7?  im trying to release my game and i cant find an isntaller so that people can isntall the EE2.7 ELI

ELI is **required** for every Eclipse written in VB6 meaning from version one up to six (EE 3.0). ELI is however useless for Solar Eclipse (version seven). Although ELI is version independent.

  Godlord.

I am having problems downloading this file, do you have an alternative download for the ELI files or is this the only one?

The problem is, every time I start the download it will only go up to 49% and then freeze. If you have a solution for this please let me know by PM or reply…

Kinda lame that I can't download this, without the ELI files I can't use any Eclipse programs at all...

I will drop the PM I sent you here, so others can "benefit" from it too, although it stands in the topic.

Eclipse Evolution 2.8 and older are written for Windows not for Linux or Mac OS X, therefore ELI does not support Linux or Mac OS X. You can however run ELI through WINE using winetricks, which I have tested and which works just like the Eclipse Server and the Eclipse Client. However because Linux is not officially supported yet, I'm not writing any tutorial or guides for Linux.

I think I have the same problem as IppyKez. Once I open the installer and it starts downloading, it freezes around half way through.
It freezes at the same spot for every download I've tried.
But I also might think that this only happens on this computer, because I've downloaded these files before on a different computer…

I don't think I have an up-to-date list of all the files it installs.
