Your right, you did aprove in pixeling (a bit :P) And it's also true; i've seen the rmxp tileset like a thousand times. But be honest, going for a good game improves your "creation skills" ALOT more then going for a… bad(?) game!

Yes indeed, as eclipse is os, you shouldn't let to much of microsoft software in ;) Stick with java, anyone can learn it, it's stable and it has a huuuuge community!!

Only this way you can see if you've succeeded in your "mapping-puzzle", and if your world uses enough variation. Looking at your map an world from a "bird perspective" would make it all alot more easy, and for the "rough editing" (=non-detailed) you could map from a 20% - 50% perspective.

Is there a possibility to edit maps without being in the client as player? Its quite chaotic to make decent maps this way, because of the fact that you can't zoom out you lose a lot of the mapping overview; or is this just my opinion?

It's a verry nice idea though, it would give game designers the possibility to narrow the line between offline rpg's like Final Fantasy and mmorpg's!
