  1. > Not saying it would solve the issue, but I'd rather pay $25 and get a T-Shirt than to just donate $25.

    That's reasonable, which is why I was going to give **Donators** the ability to download my engine for free.
  2. I don't think **Eclipse** can be ran off of merchandise no offense. Donation model for progress is the best approach. Once, I actually have a good base to work with, **Eclipse** can set goals for big updates such as a new server or toolset which would be completely open-source.
  3. > You're entitled af, but I have no further comment. Go on with your silly debates, Eclipse.

    You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time. That's all I got to say to haters like you, who don't do anything but bring others down.
  4. > I'll most likely make a thread for it later, but if you want me to continue the development of EO just hit the **Like** button of this post.

    No man. If I felt entitled I would take some money from the donations, I actually turned it down on the donations. You are just wrong and spreading lies.

    If you look, the donations all go to @[member="Link"].
  5. > Kinda ironic how just months earlier this same person quit supporting Eclipse Worlds cause not enough people were kissing his arse and buying the 'Gold' addition.

    > Have you no shame? My goodness.

    I still thought it was the best. I just believe in using my time to be productive and donating my time to people entirely is not what I consider 'effective' use of my time. Donating my time to some degree is fine, which I already explained how I fixed that in the shoutbox.
  6. I've added a **Donation Sidebar**.The total cost for the site is $119, it is set to $125 for handle fees.

    * You will be automatically placed in the **Donator** group upon donation and when you donate, you will get 500 forum points per dollar you donate.
    * It will keep track of donations at a monthly basis and automatically.
    * You may only donate $5 and above and are limited to $100 per donation.
  7. > My gold status should transfer over, since EW is here and has replaced EO my status should move with the product. Kind of bummed it wasnt automatically (obviously not by it self) assumed it should happen.

    Right now, there are no perks for being a **Gold Member**
    . This poll is to determine the direction the site will be going. My website is not going anywhere, I am rebranding it to **Sllverdale**.
  8. > And for the record, I'm a gold member on Seths forum, hoping that will transfer here then? I have donated to LoA and bought gold too so my status should come here too.

    I may give **Gold Members**
    on both sites access to all my plugins for free.

    > EW is better than EO 4+ and I'll admit that, but it is an EO engine too… Anyways, to add on to tehdoug, closed plugins does NOT mean closed source, the engine will stay open source, the donations will go to the site, not Seth unless you donate directly to him.

    70% of the plugin sales will go to me. I actually will take a hit like everyone else who uses the plugin system I make. Think of me as a developer who makes new features like a **Pokemon Battle System** and sells it on the download center. I am not taking money from the cash pot at the top.

    > > * We ask a set amount of money and put 75% or more of it into the project, the other 25% goes to the site costs.

    75% goes to the goal we have set. For example, a goal of making the **Eclipse** website move to **Xenforo** forum software, we have a donation goal of $500\. To pay for the forum license and paying **Wing** to make a theme for it. This is not a case we are going to do likely, but it is just an example. I may change it to be 100% if the download center makes enough to pay for the hosting.

    This is just to get feedback about the future of **Eclipse** and is not set in stone.
  9. > I know what a library, all you said was "Architecture" If you're going to write a post about monetization on eclipse, write it, in detail, explaining all the importance of things you know will cause controversy, because all this posts sounds like is a way for you to get money in your own pocket.

    I won't get the money that the download center makes. That will go toward the hosting costs. I will make money by making plugins. People act like if you do work it is worthless around **Eclipse**.If you can actually finish something that you start I would listen, but people who act like that are usually lazy and inefficient workers. They are envious that they can't finish what they start.
  10. > I didnt even know EO had stopped and EW took its places, How did I not know this! Either way, I was my donations to goto site costs only. That is what sparked the community to ask for the donations thing in the first place. Not choose this way or that way we just wanted a simple Donation Graph type gadget to donate to help Link with the site.

    There were many announcements I made about it… This is just to see where the community stands. Donation graphs are simple. This is a future event that will happen later down the road of **Eclipse**.** Eclipse **has been on the brink of destruction for a long time, it takes a change for it to grow and prosper.
  11. A library is not software - a library enhances software. My plugin API will be closed-source, but people do not have to use plugins, they are optional. The engine will be completely free and open-source. Plugins will be made by the community similar to **Sadscript**.
  12. > Seth, stop hiding it behind the word donation. You're closing the source, and selling a better version to members, there's no other way of putting that.

    NO. You are just not reading what I am typing. My engine has always been open-source. I do not believe in closed-source software. If someone pays for the software, they deserve the source-code for supporting its creation, but I also believe in open-source software beyond proprietary model. You just don't know to read.

    This is a poll, do you not understand?
  13. > No joke dude, Literally Amish2.0\. Seriously, Eclipse was originally invented to be free, "FreeMMORPGMaker.com" Isn't that misleading now?
    >
    > Eclipse turned into an educational tool believe it or not. and, while I understand that your "time isn't free" You didn't hand code Eclipse Worlds from scratch. In fact, from my understanding, it's not 100% your code to profit from either. And, while this argument sounds one sided, as the side of the users of eclipse, you have to remember, I was on both sides of the coin as well.

    **Eclipse Worlds** is free and the donation model makes it free. The only reason the **Gold Edition**
    costs money is cause it was before I joined **Eclipse** staff. Breaking promises with people is very bad. I am giving people the choice to choose. The **Gold Member** model is **Amish** 2.0\. The donation model is essentially **Eclipse** being ran as a service.

    > Since when did EO become EW? I am seriosuly confused… Are we donating for EW or EO??

    EO has been discontinued. How could it possibly pertain to that engine?

    All models I already explained! **OPEN-SOURCE**.
  14. > I forgot about that, If its members only the client and server should become open source, but the auth server should somehow be needed to check for licenses or something?

    People can easily steal my **Gold Edition**
    , I never planned to lock it down with an auth server. Both are already open-source.
  15. > Also a question, Eclipse Worlds doesn't cost a dime to make. Why would 75% go to Eclipse Worlds and 25% go to the website?

    We're talking about paying people to make **Eclipse** better. Donation goals are ways to make **Eclipse** better. My time is not free. Even if I do donate a lot of it to projects.

    **Eclipse** with both models is aimed at making more money than what it costs to run. This is not a nonprofit organization.

    My plugin architecture will be a .DLL and closed-source. I will provide the API for people to use, we will eventually move to .NET or C++ server. I think this model is better which is why I am not defending the **Gold Member**
    model.
  16. > Would donating 0.01 Zimbabwe dollar get me access to the download? Will there be set increments?

    The **Gold Edition** will eventually be faded out if we go with this model. You have to donate at-least $5\. **Eclipse** will be ran as a service for members and not a proprietary engine.
  17. > What happens if the Gold goes ahead, but a donator isn't a Gold member?

    What do you mean? **Donators** will be able to download the **Gold Edition**
    . If someone donates that had already donated, their donation total would go up. **Eclipse **would be ran more like if you donate at-least $5, you get the **Donator** rank, but their is no benefits for donating say $200 vs. $5.
  18. **Introduction**

    I want to ask what the community thinks the direction **Eclipse** should take when it comes to actual monetization.

    _**Paid Plugins** will work the same in both cases, we will ask 10% or 30% of the money plugin authors make and put it toward the site._

    **Gold Member**

    **Paid Engine** with **Paid Plugins**

    * The **Gold Edition**
    of **Eclipse Worlds** will be a perk of **Gold Member**
    . This will have benefits that will build up over time. It will cost $20, a one time fee.
    * We will add a **Silver Member** l
    ater on, similar to **Nin Online** where you can earn the benefits by being a veteran of the community that contributes to it such as referring people or making tutorials on the site.

    **Donators**

    **Donation Goals** with **Paid Plugins**

    * We ask a set amount of money and put 50% or more of it into the project, the other 50% goes to the site costs.
    * **Donators **will be able to download the **Gold Edition **of **Eclipse Worlds**. **Gold Members** that already exist, will be moved to **Donator** group. **Gold Member** group will be disbanded.

    _As a side note, members that are outstanding will get these benefits in both such as **Member of the Month**. We also will be experimenting with **Donation Goals** to see how well it works out, we want **Eclipse** to be the center of 2D ORPGs and something that is taken seriously._
  19. > Also, the source on Github seems to have errors and wont open all the forms and modules when you download it to a zip file

    Did you change the client.vbp/server.vbp version of MSCOMCTCL.OCX from 2 to 1 or 1 to 2?
  20. The easiest way to install **Visual Basic 6** is to torrent a hacked installer, but I can't give you a link since it goes under piracy. **Microsoft**'s installer barely works anymore, you are better off legitly buying the software and installing it using an illegal means. That's if you care about abiding by copyright laws for outdated software.

    Compiling is likely a problem with a problematic installation.

    * Uninstall **Visual Basic 6**.
    * Reboot.
    * Run **CCleaner**.
    * Reboot.
    * Install **Visual Basic 6**.

    If you have already uninstalled it, ensure to skin the first 2 steps.
  21. This is a list of all bugs not fixed yet as of **1.2.6.2**.

    * Broken quest system.
    * Broken guild system.
    * NPC spawning issues such as not working with NPC attribute.

    Please post your bugs below, make sure to include the version you are using. A patch will raise your version to that. Client **1.2.6.1** and Server **1.2.6.2** for example, are both included as **1.2.6.2**.
  22. > within a few week, i've gone from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 and I'm still trying to get to grips with this haha, I'm doing a much as i can to reduce my confusion haha!

    4.2.2 and 4.2.3, are the same just bug fixes and yes, it can be confusing for newbies to swap their data around. I understand! :)
  23. > But i wanted to ask how you added transparency in the hotbar, is there a transparent color like light green or pink or something like ive seen in earlier engines to make the edges around it transparent? Or is it a code thing?

    Yes. You can set 1 color as a transparent color. Typically, it is black (0,0,0).
