  1. I don't need them. But a new user shouldn't be forced to sign up, then go ask where to download in the shoutbox and then be directed to your signature.

It should be easy, else the new people we want to keep around are just going to up and leave.
  2. Take just a moment and pretend that you are a new user. Assume you have no prior understanding of the site structure and attempt to find the following things:

    Eclipse Skywyre (+Download)
    Runtime Files (For any engine)
    Eclipse Worlds
    Eclipse Origins

There should be super easy to find, 1-2 clicks tops but other than Skywyre everything is hidden behind layers of the forum.  In order to make this place newb friendly I recommend a download page where everything can be accessed from a single click.

You get that working and I will stop linking those asking for these things in the shoutbox to my personal site.

  3. Just an idea that I have tossed around here and there. No one likes ads on the site. I am referring to the Google ads/AdChoices, whatever. We all know, that especially with adblockers becoming more and more prominent you aren't making that much off of them.  Why not make a progress bar appear on the site at the beginning of each month for donations and if X amount is met, then you disable ads for the following month or something? That would be a good way to cover server costs and get rid of annoying ads.

  4. Going to make it official, you REALLY, REALLY need to login to your 1and1 host control panel and map the http://freemmorpgmaker.com domain to this site.

You do not need help, YOU can do it.

Here is a quick step by step guide:
    https://help.1and1.com/domains-c36931/manage-domains-c79822/dns-c37586/editchange-a-domain-s-ip-address-a-record-a599296.html

The Eclipse server's IP is 162.253.224.63.

When the domain isn't mapped, all traffic to it (links scattered around the internet) fail to load causing the domain to lose value. You also lose all that traffic. All the while, you lose respect from search engines and you move further and further down the list when people search for "free mmorpg maker" or similar terms.

Fixing it will benefit you long term, just do it!!!

  5. Not sure if this is worth looking at right now with the pending software rotation but I noticed that I can see topics in the new latest threads bar that I do not have access to read. (Admin center topics)

A minor annoyance, but worth mentioning. If you all had topics like "Banned So and So" it would be pretty unprofessional.

    Best,
    JC
  6. I don't know enough about it BUT I do suggest that if you all were ever to switch you do ample research. Even if it is slightly harder to work with, if Xenforo is any better than IPB it might be worth the effort to learn the system. It's all about dedication and this community is worth it.

Plus, switching is hard enough already. Why not get it right this time so we don't do it again?
  7. The FreeMmorpgMaker.com domain only ever pointed to the black site back when you owned the site Marsh. Once Robin released EO2 it was simply a redirect to TouchOfDeathForums.com

It was Daniel's decision to relocate the site to EclipseOrigins.com (he found the name more appropriate, which I agreed and disagreed with at the same time – still do) but when that happened, TouchOfDeathForums.com and FreeMmorpgMaker.com where still pointing to this forum.

When Nick/Lycros took over hosting, they mapped touchofdeathforums.com and eclipseorigins.com but never freemmorpgmaker.com, so any links to that on the web are marked as dead by google. Furthermore the site and forum change was done poorly leaving any links on this site to existing topics useless as well.  (No redirect rules were made to map ipb links to working mybb ones)

While I don't expect the admin team to fix all broken links, it is still in their best interest to get FreeMmorpgMaker.com to point here instead of nowhere.

    Update:
@Seth, I agree if one dedicated team member will moderate and run it then they can act as a liaison to the other team members. With that said, it still falls on everyone to do their part to get stuff done. I must reiterate that even if Cici made all the decisions, she simply does not have access to everything on the site.
  8. I've hi-jacked Cici's web development thread too much.

I would like to suggest a section on this site where the community as a whole can post suggestions and ideas to the administration team that are guaranteed to be read and responded to (even if the response is unfavorable). As of now, it is up to the admins to determine the direction the site is headed and make it happen. We are grateful, but there are are 45 thousand members out here and our thoughts and ideas are rarely asked for and when we suggest ideas or report problems they are often lost in time. (For example, I asked Link to get someone to fix latest activity multiple times. Then Cici joined the team and she never heard of the issue. Link probably just forgot, and that's fine but having a place to keep track of suggestions and concerns would have fixed the problem significantly sooner.)

That is only one example though. I can always voice my opinion but it often seems to be disregarded or forgotten and it is hard to get it to the correct people. The admins have Slack to communicate and plan but that doesn't help any of us.

My idea is one board where I can make a post to mention several of my ideas. (Such as: Accepting donations and once X amount is reached the Google Ads are disabled; Mapping http://freemmorpgmaker.com to this site to its value stops depreciating, etc) then my post can be read by the correct person, and they can respond accordingly. If they need help, we can then offer it. If our suggestion or concern isn't valid then at least we know we were heard and it can be revisited later on.

The problem is that this will only work if the whole administration team is willing to work with it. It is a lot of work on them too, I understand. But I really think it could make this a much better place.

    Thoughts?

    * * *

Update: Cici agreed and implemented the idea, when I modified my original post her post was lost somehow.

Anyways I immediately have some concerns. I think that it shouldn't happen until discussed and agreed upon by everyone on the admin team. There are components that you cannot do alone, Cici, although I wish you could. At the very least, Nick and Link must be on board to approve decisions you may not be comfortable with or you may not have access to grant like my domain suggestion.

In my mind I would love to see posts titled like these:

    [Suggestion] [Map FreeMmorpgMaker.com
    [Bug][Yuko] Latest Activity Randomly Disappears
[Suggestion][All] Community Donations to hide Non-Eclipse Ads

etc. each admin would reply to their addressed topics or topics marked for all of them.

    Further thoughts?

Oh, and the new section you created does not allow for us to make topics :P](Map FreeMmorpgMaker.com

  9. Sorry bud. If you luck out, you might find a rising programmer to do the job in order to learn on the fly or just someone with a ton of free time.

Otherwise, that is still super far below minimum wage for the time it would take to complete and convincing someone who has a higher paying programming gig or someone who simply doesn't need the money is hard to do. You might be better off taking money off the table and befriending a programmer or just bartering.

  10. I'd like to point out that we are 1 week away from the 2 MONTH mark and the site still has a ton of rudimentary problems with nothing even close to a status update.

*Granted I doubt anyone will see this since the Latest Activity only appears 1/20 times of refreshing the forum index."
  11. Uninstall IE11 - That could fix it.

Another possible solution includes modifying version numbers in the .vbp project, you can probably find it by searching on this site.
  12. You answered part 1 of my question but completely missed or neglected part 2.

You claim you have 2 modern language engines ready to be developed or already in the process. (Java/.Net). My question is, is that a plan or do you actually have people signed on to develop those and if so, who are they?

    Followup question, you said:

    > set a stable foundation in anticipation of Greenlighting the new engine via Steam

    Which engine? (Java or .Net)
