The colors are somewhat ok on the houses. Try adding each house a little more details so they all don't look the same. Also add some grass/vines that has grown around the house so it doesn't look like they have just been put on the ground. The houses them selves look like a dwarf homes compared to other objects on the map. Try making them a bit bigger and get rid of those tiny windows.

As a MSPaint only user I recently acquired GIMP and started to mess around with it. After ~30 minutes or so trying to actually make something (not just experimenting) came up with this.  * Those 2 sea shells are not made by me. Constructive critique welcomed.
