  1. Lol I'm already done arguing so don't accuse me of anything… kind of childish?
  2. You still don't understand what I mean by Runescape. I'm saying it is funny how much crap you talk yet you haven't yet made a game more popular than RS for example. Generally you don't talk until you do… Not, oh I got an awesome game design document. And you don't have the right to tell me to get lost even if you are one of the best programmers here. I only respond because I'm not going to let you say stuff to me and then go hide... I am an ignorant kid, but you're an arrogant adult than? Like I keep saying either way java > VB6, but so is C > VB6\. So whether you do Java or C IDC. Just don't get why this community hates Java for some reason... I just really want to know why there is no Java version and why it can only be C... Anyhow C doesn't automatically make it good. It's who programs it, what contents in it. Not just the language... like someone else in this thread already stated, and they also added that it'd be in good hands under you. @Miguu. Yeah. A corporate whore who supports the man just tryin to keep you down! I'd prefer this to be split off from here... cause it's only further cluttering this thread.
  3. @Damian666: > like we will ever have a eclipse game in need of that much connections in use xd My point too :/ And I highly doubt any games here will top 5k players, let alone the 205k that shitty runescape somehow pulls…
  4. Yeah… if you can make a game more successful than RS than why haven't you, oh wait? Java is better than VB6 so why are you trying to argue otherwise? Ask any person. Not only is it better but knowing Java will get you MUCH further than Vb6... Btw, "Experience with Java EE " for Software Developer Requirements. It's under a couple things. They say they'd like Java and/or C++. So why would they ask for Java if they don't use it? @Robin. The shitty RSC was. You play RS, you should know RS2 in it's current state is made by many Developers. Like said this is irrelevant to the topic cause this is about C. I'm just to much of an idiot to deny myself from responding to the things you say.
  5. @Admiral: > I can't speak for Aion, but I thought Guild Wars was written in C++. Can you link me to your sources? Aion's server is Java. Most of NCSoft's new stuff will be server-side java. And I mean Lineage I believe not GW. Though GW2 might be.
  6. @S.J.R.: > Considering the majority voted yes, and considering there seems to be a majority who wants me to be the programmer or lead developer, I'll accept it. At least, when I am done with these two weeks of my final exams. > If I am the developer, it will use my self-written libmad library, which offers interfaces for networking, user interfaces, graphics (through OpenGL, Direct3D8, Direct3D9, Direct3D10 and Direct3D11), audio and several other things. When I was developing that library, and I still am, I focused on a few aspects: performance, user-friendliness, memory usage (including data-oriented design), flexibility, feature-richness and cross-platform interfaces. > The past, the present and the future are C/C++ and a thin flavour of Assembly. The game industry generally doesn't use anything else (but for a few exceptions). I can name so many games that were written in C/C++ and even in Assembly, as opposed to your Java games. Not to mention that those games were more successful. > > Also, the only game that was fully programmed in Java, that you mentioned, is _Jagex' Runescape_. Bright future you've got there. > > And for servers, generally everything cuts too short. Network programming is, to say the least, complicated. There are only a few libraries and programming languages that deal well with it. > Staying with Visual Basic limits potential, staying with a Microsoft product in general, does limit potential. > The hardest part of C is using it properly with the lack of good libraries. The theory behind it is quite easy. > OOP only has benefits when it is applicable, and it is far more not applicable than applicable. Most programming languages and programmers just enforce OOP to be everywhere, end up with a horrible design using all the kind of patterns a sane programmer never heard of, and then wonder why it is so slow (because cache misses aren't usually known to object-oriented programmers and sometimes hard to detect). > > Regards, > Stephan. Like I said, server-sided too. Pretty sure Aion is pretty god damn ducking up there on the list of success, as is Guild Wars. Java Server > … Servers? Huh? Not only is java easier to run on multiple places, but a simple networking setup using MINA for a RSPS by some 16 year old java developer proved strong enough to run 2000 people without lag on a vps. It's wholely based on what you put into it, I know, but still... vb6 engines will never reach that. And for a hobby developer (a 16 year old.) using java that's pretty damn powerful, and hell of enough for hobby 2d mmorpgs... Oh, and I highly doubt anyone here will make a game more successful than RS. (You're talking single-man dev teams with low resources... so this whole argument is null.) Either way this is about C. I'm not opposed to it, if you want to waste your time doing this, hell or java, it's your time, your wishes, go for it.
  7. @MrMiguu: > Speaking of MMOs made in Flash; Neosaurs is 2D side scrolling MMO made by Microsoft in Flash. It's alright… Until some 9 year old makes a youtube video on Flash Trainers… Though if they are effective on your mmo it's a fail. Java is the future. games like aion, guild wars... hell even RS. Make the client on whatever you want, but Java also has many pro's to being the server-side.
  8. I don't know about Origins, but I used to Run Solar on a 500 mhz comp quite a few years back. If I can dig that rig up from the basement comp graveyard I'll stick EO on it and see how it does.
  9. Alright, so I should use this version than ;]
  10. I think an example even better would be World of Warcraft ;] Sweet SE man ;]
  11. @Robin: > I don't have a commercial engine in the works. Ah, I was confused by this: @Robin: > In fact, I have released _absolutely no information at all_ about my commercial engine. All I've told people is that it'll be based on the Crystalshire game engine and that it'll be released through the supporter system.
  12. Instead of wasting time on this, would you recommend waiting for your commercial engine to be released? I'm fine with waiting as long as it isn't like a year and a half xD
  13. He didn't steal the theme, but he doesn't know about simple portal it seems. Looks almost like he dl'ed the html and copy pasted rofl
  14. But technically any VB6 engine is outdated?
  15. I kinda wanted to play around and make a mock engine from mirage
  16. Oh I thought you did Origins from scrath. Alright. And not list it all, just the major, few small things. Not every problem :P I'm assuming the majority of it is DX and Networking?
  17. This isn't for a game, it's to fuck around. My game is using origins. So I'd appreciate answers adding to my question. I just wanna screw around with ti.
  18. Hey, while my co-conspirator works on non-graphical updates on DotA2D I have a break. I've been toying with Mirage 4\. What are it's problems, what can be done to fix it, are they're already links/tips anywhere on some fixes? I wanna make sure the Engine is all clean and proper before I play with it some more. It's pretty fun tbh.
  19. Oh lol. Forgive me it's been 8 years since I've touched Pokemon. Yeah Bulbusaur was green thingy then the others pink. I was a Char fag anyhow.
  20. This all 150? I'm guessing vensuar is mizssing?

Thought I'd say this. This system works great for Pokémon.

    DotA2D Symbol

@Robin: > Do you know how icon files work? There's a reason we don't just use raw images. yeah there's like 4 layers? so when it scales
  23. @Kusy: > I think you're missing the point. > 1) you pick shitty songs > 2) reducing a song's quality to nearly zero doesn't make a shity song sound good. Rofl that's exactly the point- to do it on purpose as a joke. I'm trying to choose crap/absurd/wierd songs I was going to spend time and put the music major skills to work but I don't feel like it. I'm adding this muwahaha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htUt0ce6_RM
