  1. Scam? Well, I hereby declare those chickens unavailable for use, except by me. HA!
  2. I see. But taking the sprites directly from the game wasn't exactly what I had in mind. For example, I made a chicken. It looks very much like the Harvest Moon ones but its not. (attached)
  3. Haha okay!!! :blob9: :icon_colors: :happy3: :icon_thumright: I made some little chickens that look a lot like the HM DS and Friends of Mineral Town ones if you want to see them! XD
  4. Okay enough about cash shops. Get back on topic. So, it could be a farming based game that took the Idea from Harvest Moon, but has a different name and slightly different gameplay. If anyone would like a go at it, I can draw up some map ideas and item lists and maybe try my hand at some paperdolling! Anybody?
  5. How do I add more options for tilesheets to use when I'm editing my game with the Map Editor? I need a Tilesheet 11 and it only goes up to tilesheet 10.
  6. haha. My bad. Sorry!!! :happy8: Yes that's what I hate about the whole "FREE TO PLAY!" thing, because really, the whole game isn't free to play. I would respect them more if they actually told the truth about their game before we download it. Every time I look for a game to play I check to see if it has a cash shop first and whether or not the items they sell will affect my gameplay (more often than not it will).
  7. @dacypher: > So try not to be too disappointed when they make you buy the game, and then charge $14.95 per month. It's just the way it works. I never said ANYTHING about Buy to Play or Pay to play. I'm fine with those two. It's Micro-transactions that I don't like. B2p and p2p are fair. Everyone pays the same amount and gets the same content. Everyone has a chance to experience the full game, to experience every update and item equally. @Marsh: > I dont think rune factory was part of the harvest moon series was it? > > Anyway, rune factory kicked alot of ass :). I haven't played rune factory, but I am interested. It was technically part of the HM series, but it was more of a spin-off that turned into it's own series. I would actually perfer the HMO to be closer to the Harvest moon series than the Rune Factory series because RF has more fantasy elements. @УvøgêÑ: > They could make an entire mmo based on it. Look at Hello Kitty online - it has somthing like 50k subscribers, more than StarWars Galaxies… > > My point being, if Hello Kitty can become a successful MMO, I would safely assume a cutesy farming game could also. I agree with you. HM has a loyal fanbase. But the creator of the series isn't planning to make an MMO. :sad11: :sad7: However, I still think adding some PvE is necessary to keep attention and add variety to the game. But making animal slaughtering in the game would not be a good thing to do. It would eliminate part of the targeted age group and those who are against the whole animal killing thing *cough cough* I'mavegetarian *cough cough*. @Amperglyph: > Um…what about Harvest Moon: Rune Factory? That was a Harvest Moon title in which there was plenty of killing. And the killing was tied to the animal raising system, so...you could slaughter a lot of cows and sheep in that title.
  8. @‡ƒorce‡DDunit‡: > Advertising=Need of money > Good server host=Lots of money > > Cash shop=money. > > Ima try to restrain myself… > > Harvest in an mmropg... What if one day you have 100 player while each one has a farm that'd be 4-10maps-ish 1000 maps just for farms. > 1 good map:20 minutes. 1000*20=20'000/60=~333 hours just for farms. And to satisfy hungryness to explore of players you need 100-500 maps-ish. > > You'd need a truly new engine to have all those features(Unless you get Spainion/Robin to work for you, this will take **_AGES if you don't). This wouldn't belong here. And you seem to say that the creators of Harvest Moon are doing one O.o Are you? > > ^^^ > Read above. > If you choose to use eclipse, it will take x100 time more… >.> > > You'd need Harvest Moon tiles=Copyright issues or $$$ > > So, sorry if I'm breaking your bubble... >.< > > Breaking my bubble? I never had a bubble to begin with! :cheesy: > But to respond to your questions: > I could advertise by myself. No need to go and buy little banners on other websites. I am active in a lot of online communities. > Good server host? Uh… i don't know much about servers either.... but I'm sure if I did some research I could find a way around paying for that or getting something cheap... > If I EVER make a game I will NOT put a cash shop in it no matter how desperate I am. :brave:Cash shops have become ridiculous. I understand the need for them, but in big name games that have TONS of players willing to buy, the creators don't need to charge as much as they do for items. Its greedy, especially when they aren't popping out updates left and right, and the rich arrogant people with money in the real world are given an advantage over everyone else. I have enough of that in my real life and i want to play a game to enjoy myself, not watch others. > I also hate when game developers totally ignore what the majority of players request or need. Input from players is important in a game and I don't think many games have that connection like they should. > Now about the maps... I would need something to generate them, like УvøgêÑ said. I figured that was something that was a normal game part, but I guess I was wrong :) > > Now would it still be copyright if I made very similar tiles and sprites and everything? I could even change the name to Noom Tsevrah online if need be. > haha! > :icon_king: > > @DrNova: > > > Adding killing to a harvest moon game would be a cheesy cop out. > > I don't understand. How would it be a cop out? > > It wouldn't be animals for killing. The series has NEVER done that and has actually discouraged it. It would be *monsters* that would occasionally try to attack your crops. Farmers could hunt the monsters as like a past time, but get gold/items/materials/idk. I guess the best way to describe them would be as those gummies from the Sour Patch Kids commercials, but they never turned sweet :). (Okay that was a bad comparison. it sounded great in my head) The monsters would be cute (maybe not the high level ones), troublesome, naughty and not comparable to the animals, so it wouldn't be cruel looking to kill them. > > Now only monsters up to a certain level will be able to attack the farm because you cant have a lvl 100 monster attacking a newbie's farm because that would be unfair. The way the farmer *can* lose their crops is if they are away from their farm too long and they dont have a dog/tool to keep the monsters away or alarm to tell them (these tools and alarms would be purchasable in the game). The monsters would be able to chop away and scare(not kill, just scare) the animals because the farmer wouldn't have a clue it was happening. > > Also keep in mind that this would not be the main part of the game, only a side activity/way to get money. > This is something I could see the game developers doing! > > And yes, HMO is in the thought process: > "But what about the future of the series? Now the series’ creator has spoken on just that topic. > > Yasuhiro Wada is one of the big players over at Japanese company Marvelous Interactive, being not only the actual president there, but also the creator of the long-running Harvest Moon series. After overseeing the game spin off in a more role-player centric direction with Rune Factory on the Nintendo DS, Wada-san has now spoken to Game Informer about what plans he has for the future of Harvest Moon and whether or not it will be heading into the realms of online. > During the extensive interview with Wada-san that will soon be appearing in an upcoming edition of the Game Informer Unlimited feature, he went on record to say the next version of Harvest Moon will indeed be going online (presumably more so than Harvest Moon: The Island I Grew Up On for the Nintendo DS, which has Wi-Fi elements included and is coming to North America early next year). He commented: “Of course I am now making an online Harvest Moon. I cannot tell you which platform.” > > Game Informer lets slip that Wada-san did go on to confirm he is certainly not talking ‘Massively Multiplayer Online’ territory, but the online version of Harvest Moon will allow between two and eight players to visit your town, which sounds like it could be a Nintendo Friends Code-specific title, which would not be too far a stretch given the Harvest Moon franchise has always had the most success on Nintendo’s platforms and in recent years the focus has indeed been on Nintendo (Harvest Moon DS, Harvest Moon DS Cute, Harvest Moon: The Island I Grew Up On are all DS titles, with another, online DS game being confirmed earlier this year). > > On the topic of the handling of Non-Playable Characters that gamers will normally be interacting with on a regular basis, Wada continued by saying that if there are around forty of these Non-Playable Characters in your town, the team at Marvelous is experimenting with the possibility of having the same ones appear in everyone’s town. So perhaps something on such a large scale might actually be Wii related? With the sequel to The Island I Grew Up On already being worked on for DS, it kind of rules out that platform. But the Wii Harvest Moon was released in Japan early on in 2007, meaning that development on that system is certainly not out of the question, given Marvelous’ extremely strong Wii support lately (King Story and No More Heroes just being two examples, with Rune Factory also coming at some point soon as well)." > > …..........Unfortunately it won't be Massively Multiplayer (I say whats the point if it ain't MM?)._**
  9. @dray777: > this is making me cry. pm the second it is done i want to play this so horribly bad. (tries not ot sound weird) i love you. haha. thanks? :toothy5:
  10. Oh, really? Dang. I would do this, but I have no earthly idea how to even start developing a game. And I wouldn't be available EVERY day to work on it. I wouldn't want to let the people I'm working with down. :icon_pale: :sad7: If you would like to take my ideas and start your own game, FEEL FREE!!!! I would LOVE to be part of making a game, just not the main part! :embarrassed: I would def. contribute ideas/learn paperdolling if anyone wants to take this up.
  11. @Devogen: > I believe there has been many Harvest Moon projects and there is currently a few in progress on rival boards. There also is a tonne of farming games you may be able to get some good scripts from. I personally would LOVE to make a game, but i do not have any knowledge of scripting and it looks much harder than HTML, which I can handle. Plus I'm only "decent" when it comes to spriting, another thing I would kill to be able to master, and I know nothing of paperdolling or tiling. I'm still in highschool and am taking Pre-AP/AP classes AND band (which, if you didn't know, consumes your entire life). No time. :(
  12. I was looking for an MMORPG to play and suddenly, a thought popped into my head: how awesome would Harvest Moon be if it was an MMORPG???!!!? Well, turns out the creators are thinking that exact same thing. Harvest moon online is currently just an idea in their minds (they don't even know what platform it will be on, but i suspect it will be PC). I love the series so I'm PRAYING that they don't screw it up. A lot of things could screw this game up, but a lot of things could make this game AMAZING. So I have decided to make a list of what I think the game should be like. I also would really like to hear what you think would make HMO great. How it could be original/awesome: First off, I don't think that the entire game should be comprised of farming/fishing. Part of it should have the normal MMORPG monster killing. The normal game format would be switched: instead of the main focus of the game being killing creatures (with crafting and farming as side jobs), the focus would be on farming and crafting (with killing creatures as a side job). This would allow it to be Harvest Moon-y but not bore us to death (eventually it gets boring and you know it) so PvE would hold peoples attention to the game longer and add variety. I'm a little hesitant nonetheless. They wouldn't put in real animals to kill, so I'm guessing it would be little monsters (or bugs?) of some fashion! FEATURES: -Players would each have farms with their own houses on them and other buildings. These houses/buildings could be painted and styled to their liking. -Farms would be by towns, shops, forests, etc. There would be normal shops like from the game, and a farmers(player's) market. -Forests/plains/surrounding area would have animals to capture for pets, monsters to kill (also players would have to protect their farms from monsters), and berries/wild grasses for newbies or cooks to gather for money or recipes, respectively. -Tons and Tons of different seeds for produce/trees/flowers to grow -Farm animals (horses, cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, pigs?, turkeys?, fish) are sold in stores and can be bred by players. The players can also sell the offspring in the market for money. There would be different breeds of horses too. You would be able to ride your horse and enter him/her in horse races, which is why breeding would be important and a source of income. -Farmers could have pets. Dogs, cats, hamsters, ferrets, etc. And catch pets too. -Houses would have kitchens (the kitchen tools would have to be bought at a store though) to create recipes (which could be used for stamina or to enter cooking competitions). The things you grow would be used for ingredients, which would allow players to be able to sell their crops on the market to other players for profit. -Certain crops could be used to make dyes, which would allow players to create clothing with wool. -Sprites could be hired out to help with the farm -a starter kit would have to be given to newbies, other wise they would spend days trying to earn money just to be able to do anything. -Mines for mining jewels and whatnot, to sell on market or make jewelry -fishing system same as in the previous games -Mini games to play -Marriage and gift giving, ability to have a child after a certain amount of time (no sex or anything, like after marriage something that says “would you like to become pregnant?” or something and you can choose yes or no. Then after a period of time, you would have a baby (you choose if boy or girl) and they would help around the farm, grow, and become a status symbol that you are an advanced player -weapons would be axes, swords, clubs and the like. No magic. -Inns to get drunk at :) -Players could join their farms -Cooking, flower, livestock competitions with prizes being rare items, gold, trophy. -NO CASH SHOPS! This is a hatred of mine. See my post on the Lostica New Sprites thread if you want to know why. Pretty much it would make the game like every other greedy mmorpg out there. Make it Buy to play, with no pay to play or micro-transactions (I hate that word). -Not 3d. I hated the graphics of the 3d HM games. It didn't fit. Didn't look right for the game. 2D, 2D, 2D!!! My mind is hurting now! I'm positive I skipped something, that's all I'm going to think up myself for today. But I will CERTAINLY comment on replies!!!! I would really, really like to hear your opinion on my stuff and your own ideas on how the game should be. Off topic: Does anyone elses dog make a snort-like noise when its dissapointed (not angry, just like if you kick them off the sofa or don't give them a scrap of food they thought they were going to get)? Or lay on your stomach when you're laying down and push their face/neck on your face and keep it there (in a loving way not a dominant way)?
  13. @Baron: > id recommend bumping the contrast up on the body area but not so much the head As soon as I went back to this post and saw the png that was the first thing I thought! Thanks! @The: > link=topic=36428.msg341733#msg341733 date=1231299129] > the png looks ok for a first sprite. > > I'd say, read some tutorials, and look at other's sprites to see more styles, and work on improving your own. :) Sure will! Thnx.
  14. Hiya. This is my first sprite! Well, its also my first pixel ever. ^_^ (in attachment)
  15. But it's a totally different style…. :( I personally liked the ears where they were. Now the face looks long and awkward. And I think the legs would look worse if they were straight. Plus people would complain that they are too blocky. :P
  16. Much improved!!! I really like the fences and LOVE the brick walkway. Heres some of my suggestions: (sorry if I repeat someone elses!) -Bushes -Trashcans (or recycling bins! Go GREEN!) -Houses all different colors -Benches (people can sit or climb on them?) -Make a shopping place next to the area with houses -Gates for the fences -Some birds on the fences perhaps? or squirells -Allow players to go into the buildings (I always love doing that even if it is pointless) -Make more use of the upper level. Make those houses have more stories. -Dog house next to one of the houses -street signs -Garages for some -Chimneys (with smoke?) -fruit in trees -Bird nests …............ ..... I could keep going if you'd like? lolz
  17. Thank you for considering those who don't like PvP! lol I think a lot of people could contribute to the game ideas to really make this game great, like they already have from this topic! (The crates idea was good!) Perhaps you could create a sugguestion place with more updates and ideas from you? I'm really interested in the developement of this game, but I feel like I have to search all over these forums to find out what you have been up to! Plus the forums on your website aren't as active. :) (your main Lostica open beta topic was last updated in october!) :wav:
  18. If you do make cash shop items, could you at least make it possible for them to be sold at the market? For example, on Gaiaonline.com they allow players to buy the "monthly collectibles"(what a euphemism) with their real money and then the players can sell the item in the market system for in-game points/currency. This allows the players without money to spare to get these items without having to pay real money (Instead they pay with very hard earned points). I understand that it is optional, I just think it gives an unfair advantage to people with rich parents and credit cards, and we have enough of that in the real world, do we not? Anyways, thanks for reading and considering my comment.
  19. Oh No!!!!! Not…. A cash shop! You have crushed my dreams of the wonderful thing that is Lostica! I hate cash shops with a passion. They have taken over the gaming world. No longer are we allowed the freedom to play a game. Now we must also invest in it. If we don't, we are not allowed a fair oppurtunity to play the game, and to me, the game is no longer fun. I liked MMORPGs because they took me away from the world where real money dominates, an imaginary place where hard work determined your status. I believe the point of an imaginary world is taken away when real currency is a factor. I have searched a *very long* time for a decent game with good graphics that wouldn't be too much for my computer to handle (not that its old or anything) that did not have a cash shop (or monthly fee). I only found ONE. Its name escapes me, but I uninstalled it because the controls of the game were not working correctly on my computer. I searched long and hard after that and landed upon this little pot of gold called Lostica. What I hated the most was that 95 percent of these games were advertised as "FREE" or "100% free to play". To me, thats like saying a country with slavery is totally free. Its just not. So please PLEASE reconsider having a cash shop. Think about the players first. Behind each computer is a real person. That is all I ask. Thank you very much for reading :) (Now when it comes to selling the games in stores, I'm cool with that)
  20. Really really like the colors and everything. However lava moves a lot slower, so to me this looks more like a shower of fire or something.
  21. He has no buttocks, just a "v" like in the front. The coloration of the face and rest of the body looks odd to me, like the head is tad too light. Details on the torso are nice. Please make the back different from the front! I dont pixel, but i do draw.
