That game is so bad, I am continually baffled by how many people choose to still play it.

There has been a lot of discussion lately about Eclipse, specifically surrounding our community. One of the main concerns is that people here are too mean, and even clique-ish.
This thread is not a suggestion, but rather a plan of action. Adhere to these [unofficial] rules, and we can see a healthier community live forward.

We're all human, and deserve to be treated like one. If you come across a game that looks like it was slapped together lazily, you don't have to be mean when you explain it to the author.
Criticism must be paired with ideas and suggestions on how to improve (otherwise it's not criticism).

Disclaimer: Yes, I was terrible at the above points a couple of years ago, but I have been very humbled this past year, and it has changed me. What I mean to say is that I'm not innocent by any means, but we can work together to clean up the forums. We need to make it more welcoming to newcomers. -

I think talking about the basics of game dev on the canvas element would be really cool, but I think It'd be better to do something about Node.js. Although most everyone there will more than likely already know a good bit about javascript, Node.js still isn't used as often as I'd like.
So, I think I'll do something about using node and the sails framework to create an MVC, api-centric app (yeah, dem buzzwords… lol).
I think the easiest one that I could tackle is a simple to-do application. Anyone else have some simple app ideas? -

touche', though it wasn't so much to avoid a ban. Also, I'm more just making a point. Do I honestly care if you make a new account? No, but don't start pointing fingers without realizing all of the crap that you (speaking in general terms) have done yourself.
I used to be pretty arrogant–I'm much less so now.
As far as anything Mad Hatter says, it's so far down the road into entitlement, that It's not even worth a reply at this point. -

This thread is so full of entitlement and ignorance. Also, for the record, Mad Hatter, we know you're Dr House–you're not fooling anyone. Creating multiple accounts to avoid a ban has always been against the rules; you're very much so contributing to this community being negative.
For everyone, if you feel like this place isn't good anymore, what's stopping you from leaving and starting/joining another forum? You are guests on someone else's website, you're not owed anything, and you have no real rights here. Being a member here is a privilege; if you cannot abide by the rules, you may leave.
It's not like we punched you in the face, or stole your first-born son. The website was sold, and now you don't like it. Alright, then leave. Sure, you can offer up suggestions, but most of what's in this thread is just crying over spilled milk, instead of getting a towel to help wipe it up. -
So, there's this local event here in Houston, TX, and I'm considering submitting a proposal to go and speak.
So, I feel like I'm not exactly qualified to speak on javascript. I might speak like I know what I'm doing, but I'm still pretty new to programming in general; however I am really passionate about it, and that's what they're looking for it seems.
I wanna get some thoughts from you guys on what you think I should talk about, should I get the chance. Some of my ideas are:
* Creating a simple app (maybe a to-do app) using node.js/sails framework
* The very basics of using the canvas for game dev
* ???
Yeah, I guess I only have 2 ideas at the moment. Please help me figure this out! It'd be a huge opportunity to get to do this. -

Have you heard of Rare? MS bought them and then killed them. Your argument is terrible, however, I am a fan of this specific deal. Minecraft never became a proper game, and It's always irritated me. I think MS can turn it into something that becomes fun for me again. -

The point is that you guys are nothing but take, take take. We want eclipse V, and we want it yesterday, and it has to be free, and also don't judge my games if they're total garbage!
Come on, is that really realistic? If you truly want to contribute to the community, maybe pick up the hosting costs? Maybe quit your day job and spend all of your time coding a new engine for us? Try to look at this from all angles, because right now, all I see are children demanding progress (and free progress at that).

The only way to improve ads is to remove them. Also, clones still suck. If you feel that your game is better, and only inspired, then I'd change the thread title to reflect that it's inspired, and not a direct clone. As it stands, I think it's cheap and tacky, because it's a clone.
