  1. RMXP, Has anyone got a link to a tileset? I'm not too sure which tileset that is, I hope it's not the one i think it is, because i dispise it :P

I do prefer to work with the tileset which i use in the picture above. This is both a good and a bad thing i think. It's possible to create beautiful maps with these tiles if you have the skill, but i think they are harder to use for a begninner. Oh and a side note, i generally get really smashed a lot, my mapping seems to improve i've been told, lmao. EDIT: i think i have double posted one of the pics, well im not sure whats going on i've been in the pub all night. The last pic i think, is not entirely my creation, its someones shot i modified to be my own in order to show him how i would do the map that he did in order to give advice. DarkaN.
  4. Hey guys, im new to to the site. i am, infact DarkaN from Playerworlds(Co-owned magnus' game for years, ect. It seems someone has taken my alias of darkan, strange.) Very devoted mapper. here is an old tutorial i made years ago, will be creating more. –------------------------------ Hello, I thought i'd make a couple of tutorials(this is just 1, but i will be making more) on how to make maps, and different ways of putting them together. This map i made about 20 mins ago, is a Forest/cliff map with a body of water. **Stage One** Now i will show you how i made the map in seps, from start to scratch. ![](http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/4352/screen1aug1.jpg) 1.) This is how i start all maps which have cliffs in them, i use this as the base for the map, and i build around it. this "Base" as you will, is normally random, i just do what first comes to mind, then build around it. **Stage Two** ![](http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/294/screen2amf9.jpg) 1.) Here i thought i'd try something different, where as most people would normally make the cliff/s all the same height, i made this section of the cliff smaller, this is because i plan on setting in other levels of cliff, rather than just having 1 cliff which is the same height. 2.)All i did here was put the base of the cliff in. 3.)Now, here instead of putting the normal cliff-to-grass tile, i put this half tile in, this is so i can put water all the way upto the edge of the cliff, these tiles are fringed. **Stage Three** ![](http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/9044/screen3ry9.jpg) 1.) Like i mentioned in the last section, here it shows me making another cliff face, one that is above the first 2.)And this is another, lower section of cliff. **Stage Four** ![](http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/8120/screen4atd1.jpg) From this point on, the map starts to fill out, and look more intresting, all i've really done is, fill in the grass on the top's of the cliffs. And on the lowest section of cliff i've put more of the base of the cliff in. 1.) All i've done here is put a little bit of land going around the base of the cliff, to the section of the cliff where the water will directly touch the cliff, i think it's a nice effect. 2.)All this really is, is a little bit of land sticking out, i alwayse seem to have things like this on water, i don't like large bodys of water, i like my maps complex and colourfull. **Stage Five** ![](http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5314/screen5ayr9.jpg) The map looks almost complete, all it needs now really is trees, plants, rocks, and all other things which bring will bring the map to life 1.) This is just a simple bit of road, but i bring this up is because, i'd just like to say to anyone who's reading this: try not to make you're roads straight and boring, you'll never see a road in anyone of my maps which is in a straight line(btw, im talking about mud paths) if it's a mud path, or grass, or anything natural, it should not look manufactured, if it's a brick road, then fair play. 2.) This is quite simple, all i've done is put another mass of land in, then filled the water in, and towards the bottom, i've kinda joined the land with the pininsular(sp). **Final Stage** ![](http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5817/screen6ain2.jpg) And here we go, after adding some plants, trees, rocks and flowers, the map is complete, it doesn't quite look it, but this map is really simple. if you look closely, you'll notice that alltogether there are about 5-6 empty grass tiles, that is probably why it looks so colourfull. As you'll probably notice, the map is built in sections, i find this the easyist way of mapping, the base, then sections of the map, then i add in all the details, this was you can edit out any or most errors you have before adding in the details(which always complicates thing, im my experence). The best peace of advice i ever recieved was: Just use you're imagenation, keep you're maps in contex with the setting, and have fun. (Sorry for any spelling mistakes, i just can't be bothered tonight.) –----------- It was just copy+pasted because im very hungover and havn't slept since i can't even remember. Feedback welcomed
