  1. > I really like the "solid"-ness to these graphics. Their boldness reminds of me of a blend of both Pokemon (mostly the palettes) and someone's off-hand paint project. They add-well to the subtle pre-school ambiance of the game. A bit uncanny.

Thanks mate. My goal for the graphics was to achieve something that at worst looks bearable, however portrays that the game is either a). not a serious attempt, or b). a parody/silly game (or perhaps I should say uncanny game? :P). This project spawned as a joke between friends, but its slowly evolving into a full length game. And best of all, I enjoy working on it so much, its so good to have a project I don't have to take seriously and I can have so much fun with. It's such a break from the hard work in Elandor Chronicles.

Thanks, I got some good stuff coming up, new demo in the coming weeks. I'm going on vacation for a few days tomorow, and I also got a lot of work, but I'll be back working for a new demo hopefully in a week. I've almost got enough content for a teaser trailer.

Why are you making it online then? Or showing it off and subjecting it to criticism? Go make it privately, and play it by yourself when its done instead of having a sissy fit when someone says something you don't like. Games are made for the player, and in this case the only player will be yourself.

I've actually never seen before a game development hobbyist who made a game strictly for himself, and not for the player. This is quite shocking to see.

    Haha thanks! :D

    …. I'm Black Cat
  4. What's going on with the graphics? I'm really biting my tongue here. You've gone through multiple graphic changes, and I hate to say it, but everything is painful to look at, the worst yet. Everything is blocky, disproportate and has that unnecessary 'dithering pillow shading'. The backgrounds I can't even work out or know what to say about. The main sprite simply looks god awful, the color, the eyes, the guilty smirk, the line art, the shading. I can't understand your decisions on  even the smaller things. Like, look at that ladder! Doesn't its terrible tiling bother you? And what are these backgrounds? It looks like you've taken photos and destroyed them in photoshop with one million different pastel effects.

Of course, there are some more drops, such as the slimy snail having a chance to drop it's shell which can be used as a shell. The big plan is once I finish the initial version of the game, (get all the areas mapped and the storyline done), I'll go back and add double the content, including more characters, expansive dialogue depending on party members, more secrets, lots more items, some rarer spawns, etc.

I've also decreased the spawn rate so it doesn't become too frustrating when you wish to explore, and not be bombarded with encounters. I'll continue to tweak this until final release, until everyones happy. I'll probably make some pokemon-inspired 'repels' available to buy.

Just finished a quick-travel system also. Progress is smashing.
  6. Loads of progress done. For an in-joke, this game is sure coming a long way. Here's a few more screenshots. I'll have to release a new demo soon if there is interest!

  7. I played for a while, was going good and had an iron mine but game made me too nervous and it wasn't enjoyable anymore. New stone village moved into the island and everyone's palisades were dropping, shit getting stolen, people getting murdered. They had enough strength to knock down my palisade without a battering ram, and walking around my island worried to run into a bunch of them was too terryfying. :P
  8. > Good idea. A change that I would definately like to see is more equipment. Until the end on level 7 i dropped nothing but knives and 1 whip which all weren't really that good. I think some more equipment would give the player some more sense of accomplishment. I especially loved the small side-quest-like things like the secret passage in the beginning where you get more hp and the little dialog on fighting a tree :D

Thanks for the criticism! I'll definately do that. :)

And wow! Level 7! I've had a few friends test it and I've watched them and on average they were level 5 by the end of the demo. I assume you thouroughly checked each area and fought all encounters. Any criticism as for difficulty scaling? The game starts off easy to cater for both new players, and also the fact that the players at level 1 have no items or skills. (Also, the boss at the end of the demo has a bug where it died way too soon, so ignore that). However, difficulty will scale higher as they have more opportunity for items, skills and strategy. Unfortately I've made the game up as I went, so I didn't really make much content yet, but I will fix that. The next demo will feature an actual city with lots of shops and more content. I'm also going to continiously revist and revise earlier areas to make it play out a bit better. :)
  9. > The dialogue makes me laugh (in a good way). If you don't mind me askin, what engine are you using to create this? Or is it custom?

Thanks bro! It's just RPG Maker VX Ace!

    > Gamescreen, Y U SO SMALL? I don't even know why I played through the whole thing but black cat is a badass and the humour is strong with this one.

Haha great to hear! "Black Cat is stong"

Found and fixed a few more stupid bugs. Neither Black Cat nor Brown Dogs level 4 skills were finished and don't work properly. Sorry about that. Fixed for next version. Also, the boss of this demo's health isn't working correctly, most of the time he seems to be 'dying' way too soon. I'm looking into it.
  10. > The purpose on this game is to date a girl/s and follow their story line and reach the ending.

Not to come across as rude or hostile, but who actually plays and enjoys these games? Social outcasts who don't have self esteem or confidence to talk to real girls? I don't see any fulfillment or enjoyment from playing a game where the goal is to chat to and date sims.
  11. Also, one known bug I've just found and fixed after I've uploaded demo 3-

    >! If you find the secret area in the village, you won't be able to leave. Don't go looking for the secret place if you read this spoiler and are curious. Save regularly to avoid losing gameplay. If you do get stuck, you can try pressing enter one tile before the 'supposed' exit of the hidden area but I'm not sure if it works. I've already fixed it for later versions.
  12. Demo 3 now available! New features, content, hidden areas and interaction!

How to use your previous save file? In your previous version's directory, copy your "save#.rvdata2" to your new version's Black Cat's Story directory. Simple as that, and it should work. Please report any bugs!

    > I absolutely love when fantasy is mixed with off-kilter horror. This game's uncanny-ness is genius!

Thanks buddy, glad your loving it! if you just downloaded version 0.2, save your game, download the new version and copy your save file over!

  14. Kickstarter will have Australia and New Zealand support soon (it was announced some time ago). I'm anxiously awaiting it's launch to seek crowdfunding for Elandor Chronicles. This will hopefully mean I can get some funds for a programmer, and also to help with some of the bigger tasks remaining, like NPCs.
