  1. Ok im looking to build the ultimate calss list. Please add classes with descriptions… I beleive this will help alot of people. 1st Level Classes Warrior - This is a basic melee class, little to no mana Mage - This is a basic spellcaster class, low health/high mana Rogue - This class is a balanced class, mid health and mana Merchant - low mana/health, doesnt advance much but has skills other classed dont. Higher Level Classes Melee Type: Knight - Wears light/mid/heavy armor, specializes in sword and polearms Lancer - wears heavy armor, speacializes in pole arms Axeman - Specializes in Axe fighting Berserker - Uses spells to enhance prowess Balance Type: Cleric - Basic healer class Druid - Advanced healer class with offensive nature spells Preist - Advanced cleric class with holy/dark spells Paladin - melee class with offensive/defensive auras Archer - Focuses on using arrows/bolts infused with magic Theif - Stealthy class that uses magic to get close Assasin - advanced theif class Ninja - light armor, advanced assassin Samurai - mid-heavy armored, advanced assassin Spellsword - uses magic to enhance swords and fighting ability Beast Master - Able to hold 1v1 but can tame a wild beast for advantage Spellcaster Type: Wizard - advanced spellcaster Elementalist - spellcaster with extreme mastery of one element Summoner - Very low health caster, summons living minions to fight Necromancer - Very low health caster, summons undead minions to fight Warlock - some offensive magic, able to summon one demon at a time

So i wanted a general consensus…. would you rather play a game where there isnt a predefined class and you build your skills/spells and all aspects of the haracter as you play and learn the game? or would you rather have a game where the admins have premade all classes and predetermined everything so that the classes are as balanced as possible... the reason i ask is because i woudl rather make a game without predefined classes but the amount of work required at first might not be worth it if peopel wont like it... and im open to some mix of the two ideas if anyone can give a good explanation... thanks!
  3. Ok so with great thanks to Pickle, I can now restart my game. But before the mapping begins I would like to poke your brains on something… And please feel free to reply with a link to something that will answer this for me! lol. Is there anyway to pre-map everything. My thoughts on this so far were to use Excel. I pick an area... say 200x200 cells (yeah i know thats a HUGE game:-P) Then I use borders to outline main areas and mark like castles and whatnot. I can also use a legend to mark specific things like camps and rivers... Use background colors to mark out grassy areas vs mountains and whatnot... Basically make a game "map" and this even lets me make the cells square so that i know how many rooms can be in a flat area... then work on multiple floors or underground... And my favorite perk... everything is laid out and my rooms will make sense... and if i wanted a forest maze or something i could map out what rooms link where but still take the same amount of space... another things is this method(if kept up to date) can do is... say a mapper has an idea... quickly maps it out in excell... hands to team or leader who decides where ti fits best... and if you want to move areas around... you can look at correlating room numbers and meticulously go through and change the file names and the exits... instead of remapping and guessing! well any questions or answers will be appreciated.   4. My new laptop should arrive today!!!! Dell XPS. It will have two purposes… taking notes in classes... and working on my game. Im starting my game over since I only had about 30 maps and some shotty npc/items I need to hunt down some awesome tiles sets and the only good collaberations I found so far have multicolor backgrounds so they dont layer well. I will also need help finding more sprites... At this point i am not willing to pay for unique sprites... although i know just the guy to ask.. lol I didnt post this in resources cause I will probably continue under this "starting over" topic with ideas on my game and vista questions since i never touched it before(seems.. Mac-ish*please no flaming*). so any updates on good tilesets would be cool for a start... anything without a "modern" theme... like forests, caves, villages etc... I really like tile set 4 from the TE download but i wish it had more variety.
  5. I was wondering about something… and this would either be alot of scripting or hardcoding that i cant do... But if anyone likes the idea, can script it... and let me know... id be most appreciative... so all characters(mobs, npcs, players) have nothing to display other than their sprite... so in regards to mobs... i kill X number of mobs... I learn their HP and can see the HP bar. I talk to vilagers or kill X amount of them i see their name... in regards to NPC... i need to talk to that NPC X times to have their name show up... in regards to players... you only see their HP if you are in a party... they have to use a command of some sort(greetPlayer). then now this other player is allowed to know who this other player is... this allows for a few things... HIDING!!!, more of a challenge in PVP(wich will be allowed from like 5-500 in my game), makes one have to adventure around and see who is who... let me knwo what you all think... might take a few scripters but i think it can be done.(and im sure someone else would like it also)
  6. OK so i know the Devs havent sought out any issues in dealing with running TE(or soon EE) on vista, buthas anyone tried it? is there anything I should know about trying it? I just ordered an XSP and i could only pick windows… the only reason i bought a laptop is for making this game and taking notes in college... so if there is a lot to doing it could i get a tut... if its simple i could use a reply...

I tried editing a tile sheet to have like 4 in one… and although TE recognizes the length and makes the approprate sized window... it makes them all black after a certain point... is there something im doing wrong? doesn anyone have like 9 really huge full of everything sheets? i tried the "ultimate tielsheet" and the background shows up when using them :(. i spent 3 hours filling in background color to findout there might be a length limit... is ther one(also what about width?) btw... im looking/willing to accept anything not "modern" tilesheets... its a midieval fantasy game(wonder if those will ever be overdone?)

I was thinking about putting a trasure chest in a map… but i wasnt the treasure to not be a standard treasure for the most part... example.. quest(or point of adventure) is to go into a cave and kill kobolds. deep within the caves is their stash, in a chest there is the item you are to retreive, say a special sword. I want this special sword, along with things such as a random chance of 50-200 gold, and a few random(but crappier... IE not god weapons) to be in there. i have a bad feeling this is a huge script and that is the only choice in doing this. i would rather avoid scripts for now... even if it means this holds off. but if anyone has an idea that would be greatful. BTW... if you post the script... it would deserve a sticky in my book...

  10. i know alot of us are no where near here but… when a game is finished or to the stage where you are good to go until a map update or something like a patch... is there anything special you have to do? and when you say i have a game and its at this website.. people go there... what exactly do they downlaod... the client file like we did from here? or can we compile something so that they get a file from us and can run our game... and please... please tell me that the new client doesnt need you to install lib files... cause i expect my game to be able to be played anywhere... i like the idea of throwing it on a pen drive and playing any public place you find and i didnt see it but if there is a tut on this.. please just past the link.. no flame/noobish comments please
  11. Say I want to increase the number of maps I have to 500 from 100\. If I just edit the ini to say 500 will the files be created or do I have to create each one at a time?(or copy to new dir, arename, copy back?)
  12. ok i unzipped everything, followed the walkthough for making the first char. edited the character file for access= 4 and game gives run time 13 error. I can simply swap the 4 back to 0 and it runs fine. so how am i doing it wrong. tried with and without the client open since the tutorial explained it with like 14 negatives. any help appreciated Shadowwulf
