  1. @Rainbow Dash: Sorry for the excursion away from other areas of Steam Punk observation, howvever, even judging by the cosplay photograph you had put here, you must admit that those weapons do not look everday industrially manufactured, they look specifically built. The way I view Steam Punk, howvever, and what i was trying to get at, is that it is a collision of two different eras and/or two different fictions to create an alternative world…..sort of along the lines of the film Wild Wild West, or the books created by Neil Gaiman. And sorry to bring all that back up as I now realise the topic is on something completely alternative, but I took a while to write it, so i really sont wanna delete it :)
  2. I like the Logo…..Nice and Simple.

Although the Mapping does need work, after all, scrolling through the other projects, you can see the effort included in making a successful map, I am a little lost as you havent yet said which areas of that pixel artistry is yours and which belongs to the standard tileset....I havent downloaded Eclipse so I wouldnt know.

Otherwise, I'd like to offer my assistance regarding the pixel artistry if you'd like a hand. I can also help with the plot if you'd like. I'll PM you with my SKYPE name, and you can either PM me back to confirm any assistance or refuse it :) I do have some environmental and furniture pixel arts already made for use if you want them too.
  3. Although I agree that basic programming and pixel artistry is all learnable, as well as only requiring a basis in common sense, I do also have to point out that a game is so much more fun to develop when you have a team to discuss ideas and help in its creation. It makes you more buddies, allows you to learn pratically from others who have standards in particular areas and allows more people to spread the word on your own works etc. If you arent any good at programming, why not practice Pixel Artistry and advertise in the Talent Centre to acquire a programmer to improve with?
  4. @ Rainbow Dash….I couldnt be bothered to quote as I wanted to point out a certain part. The constant companion idea, although already been done by certain other games, is not that commonly used. I may get shot for bringing up Grand Fantasia, BUT, their idea of a constantly assisting Sprite Character really brings a uniqueness to the game with its Hunting, Foraging, Crafting etc and the comedy effect the Sprites can have keep the appeal going. I do not think I agree with the alteration of the Constant Companion as much as bulk the idea a little more.
  5. I agree with Jungle. Sometimes in the heat of creating something that, at the time, makes sense to your own mind, it is easy to get carried away with the project and send it into an overly complicated direction. I would say "Take a Step Back" also. Think about what you are going to use as your basic plan on how things will operate and work around it. The whole point of a Beta is that you have the basics in place with a few of your own creations to bulk it slightly, and then further work around your ideas according to your feedback. Now, I am not a developer or a Coder or Programmer and my pixel artistry is fairly average, although my textures have improved greatly. But from a "Prioritising" point of view, I feel the above would be to your advantage.
  6. @Robin and whoever else involved in the Alternative Topic of conversation.

If you consider it, every single tile probably started off as a solid colour block. Then this company took it and made a slight adaption of adding a couple of dots, then 3 others took it from him and added their own alterations. In the end, you can't copyright or trademark register a colour, so it is likely that noone ever really owned the very first 32x32 block of booger green colour because of the impossibility to copyright such a thing.

@ Draconix, Finally regarding the game in dev.

I like the general appearance thus far, but you must remember that, well from what i know of Steam Punk, everything taken as fanatsy based like swords or armours etc are always going to have an embellished visual appearence in comparison to the imagined industrial era. Swords could be made from scrap metal, with a chain saw add on or something run by a motor at the hilt, that is the kind of merging you need to make Steam Punk, or at least a highly blatant version of.

Think Judge Dredd gone to Hogwarts :)
  7. If you think you can make it work dude, you go ahead and do it. It's obvious a lot of thought has been put into this detail wise…..on paper it appears completely original in circumstance. It'll be great to see some screenshots once you have everything converted to EO, after all, it is the knowledge of what the game will look like that gives people the imagination on how it will play. When you get the chance, be aware that, for interest, you will need some graphical substance.

Otherwise, from what I see of your dedication, it could turn out to be well worth the wait :)
  8. If those weapons are half assed, then my god, I must just be sweating from being lazy :D

Everything their, except for the parts I don't understand for, likely, unwarranted reasons, seems fantastic. You are graphically skilled and seem to have a good head for details, as is shown in your highy descriptive plotlines regarding your "Lands" events.
  9. Thank You for your comment Annahstas, unfortunately, the actual owner has not been online for a good while. I'm sure he is still working on the game, but je's left his partner (me) a little bit in the lurch for the time being. With any luck, he'll be back with some explosive new screenshots etc, but until then, do not expect any immediate updates….
  10. lol….I am certainly in wonder at whether or not Robin ever left his teenage, emo phase....certainly a sociable bundle of energy aren't you... :D

Anyway, best way to make friends in programming is to join projects. I recommend looking up the Talent Centre here, if not, I am sure their are many other sites with a similar programming basis :)
  11. Wow, guys, he only spelt "Making" wrong, even I have a spelling mistake once in a while. Although I agree that Grammatically, you require work (i.e. positioning of commas etc) your spelling has been improving, so ignore what people say about it, and improve at your own pace.

Also, I wouldn't mind checking out the vid, but where the hell did you put the link…..
  12. Sorry, I know this seems a little off, but it is about the game name again, not about the game itself. I understand that, by adapting the ending of your main title, you have made a name that would in all technical terms be unrelated to anything else, however, do you not feel that the name itself…..Origins....and the subtitle....Dawn of a New Beginning.....clash in their meaning slightly?

Origins, of course, is in relation the centre of a particular creation, like the Big Bang was the Origin for the forming of Earth, whereas your subtitle seems more of a continuation of something than an actual Origin itself.

It just feels as if you are trying to be overly flashy with the name, and that intent is noticeable in its forming. Honestly, names with simplicity seem to become more popular amongst a lot of people.

Back to your game idea.....althoug h short, the plot is very good, and offers a very well known and simple starting point for a game. To me, it doesn't  sound like a plot offering only a "Castle Defence" angle, it is just simple enough to understand.

Anyway, it looks good so far, so all the best from me
  13. Does the weapon really need to have blue tinges to be creepy? Perhaps removing the Yellow colour from the "Stands Out" version and replacing with the grey of the "You Like" version would give a complimentation….after all, red and black are also colours used towards the direction of what is classed as evil, or bad.
  14. I look forward when your new community site is up and running Zesh. I would love to follow the progress of your game until its release. The ideas you have also implanted in regards to the battle system etc, as you well know from my PM's, has also piqued my interest.

Anyone who is able to steer away from the usual concept of the limitations the engine is able to offer certainly deserves a reputable rank and an admirable following.
  15. Spytim, you weren't going to quit the project were you? :D

If an idea looks like it is going to fall flat on its bum, always try and pick it up with something new and interesting. That's the fun of game dev…..if the comments are coming back as negative, it obviously means you have to spend a bit of time improving whatever it is that's leading to its downfall.

Regarding the "new developers" comments by Nickolai (Don't worry Nickolai, I'm not going to pick on you, just debate your point), I am also planning on going in to development, learning via the eclipse engine, and, likely, Visual Basic, or comparable reference, tutorials. Once my understanding is in place, I would then extend myself further. I already have a development in mind, and it would end up requiring very meticulous programming....however, sometimes, throwing yourself in to the deep end is the best way to learn.
  16. @domino - Feel free to use a similar style. Credits are only required if you have used any graphic source or codes created by us to begin with. Wanting to make a top down game, however, requires no such etiquette.

Good luck, whatever you choose, my friend.

@Whack - Rotflturion has an ingratiating work ethic, almost turning him into a vein-eyed recluse.

Although I am a little more laid back, thus the consistent forum appearences, he likes to get things done in one go.

If you want to PM myself, I can relay anything you need me to, unless it is something I can help you with. Otherwise, it is a case of hanging tight.
  17. I've always been able to PM him, but getting hold of him in the first place is an entirely different kettle of fish.

If you struggle getting a hold of Rotflturion, feel free to PM me, I'm also co-leading the games developement, although, he still has the final word on everything *mumbles under breath*

definitely looks like the castle walls are coming along well dude, one quirk though, remove the wooden fringe you have placed on the ramparts where the stairs enter up on to the ramparts themselves.
  18. Sorry for the long topic title, I was trying to get the gist of the topic across before I started typing.

As I undertsand it, thus far, the main program availiable to work alongside Eclipse Origins is VB6 Pro/Enterprise.

Now, this will sound a bit silly since it hasn't had a mention, BUT, I am asking this more out of hope as someone wanting to delve into game development, specifically programming (and coding where necessary).

I have recently "acquired" a copy of Visual Basic 2008 Express…..Although the answer may be obvious, I want to ask whether or not this particular software would allow for alterations or additions of the script on Eclipse Origins?

    Thank You for reading
  19. Both Bonk and Robin have a point Ice.

Do not take me the wrong way, I'm not going to outright cause controversy by overly critcizing work that i could not even fathom as to even start myself.

As a "Potential" Player, however, I do sincerely think the GUI may need a slight rethink. I will not go into scales, sizes, merges etc, they are things I do not know about, BUT, I will remind you that any GUI is, and always will be, the main focal point of your game's design. Maps change as you pass from screen to screen…..your GUI doesn't, it will always be there glaring in the exact same colour and graphic.

I understand your own point of views, and I respect those, although some of what you said regarding improving yourself could be taken as rather damning, but try and look from a "Publication" (Sorry, probably bad context here) point of view.

You love your GUI, and perhaps 10%, if lucky, of the overall public. That still leaves 90% though. You need to promote your game both explanatory and visually to attract these extra people. This is what makes you reputable, interest in promotion.
