    _If your name is not on here, and you registered, just post again!_
    **Registration closes on the 25th!**

    Anyway, I've realised, I haven't really released much details, besides the rewards and the point, so may as well do that now.

    * * *

    **What is the Extended Test Release (ETR)?**
    Well, it's exactly what it says. It's a version of Iron Prelude that is expected to be buggy, to test out any features, and allow me to get a good bug report on what's good and what's not. As the extended says, it's for an extended period. In this case, it is planned to be three days long. You can log in at any time then, for however long you like. Anybody can come to play, but only the registered people will have the added perks, in return for a bit of survey-time.

    The rewards include:
    • Contributor Access.
    • 750 free gimp.
    • Account will not be wiped.*
    • Future access to CTB maps, items, and spells, giving you the upper hand.
    * Cannot guarantee.

    **What will become of our accounts?**
    The accounts SHOULD be kept, unless if I directly decide to rewrite the player UDTs, which I'm not planning.
    Anybody that is NOT registered WILL have their account wiped. Think of it as my way to get as much people to register as possible. ;D

    **Soo…maps, items, spells, and so on?**
    The content is more or less currently halfway. There are 24 explorable maps (Ranging from 30x30 to 60x60, to minimise lag.), a whole load of items in a database, ready to import, and I'll start spells the moment I do all the NPCs and animations.

    The maps consist of a village, a cemetary, several fields, a forest, two dungeons, a mountain area, a shoreline, and more. Players start along the shoreline, no matter the class.

    **What's to be expected?**
    In all honesty, nothing much currently, besides some pretty good maps, and hopefully, decent combat. When you've only got a team of two people, it's fairly hard to balance content. ;d

    **What'll happen after the ETR?**
    I'll take the ETR server down, and then Iron Prelude will resume normal development, until the next ETR/release. All errors that happen in the client instantly get sent to the server, and any error that happens in the server is instantly logged, so it'll give me an easier time of tracking down bugs. I'll also be putting out two Developer's positions, to join the team.
  2. Closing in three days!

    Register while you can!

    If you support Iron Prelude, then insert this into your signature, whether it be this forum, or any other forum!

    Yet more things on the codes…forgot to showcase this the other day. ;x

    Had a bunch of screenshots ready to use, but I accidentally cut out my comps power supply whilist having them open in PS. I'll retake them as soon as I've finished installing Ubuntu. ^_^
  3. Nice. Should be helpful to others, it's certainly saved me ages of page searching.

    Oh, and just to point out, the eyecatch framework, and swear-filter are the other way around. I don't recommend the eyecatch framework, but I'm also confused as to why you don't recommend the swear-filter.

    PS to the registered; Shush, I know it's badly dubbed. ;p

    **Well…**
    As you can see I've pushed back the date again, for two reasons.
    1) My ISP are a bunch of dickheads. My internet's been dysfunctional for months, and especially recently, my modem refuses to work often. I can't say that this is ideal, and don't really want to take the risk of leaving everybody hanging, while I'm trying to get my modem to send data. An engineer from my ISP is coming to replace my modem AFTER the first pushback, so there's not much I can do.

    2) I chickened out. Ofc, if my internet was working, I would've done the same, and made up some other stupid excuse. At the moment, I'm going through every developed thing, trying to be perfectionist, making it bug free, and so on.
  5. @Peter112:

    > I just don't understand, if ! HE ! has a climate system, why don't he share it for who need it.

    **There's a difference between needs and wants, mate.**
    Especially by the way you put it, being ignorant by their meanings makes you sound spoilt and like a leech.

    @jcsnider:

    > Because, it is HIS. It makes HIS game special. When he gives it away, he is giving his WORK away for free, making his game no longer special. There is no good reason for him to give his work away to some stranger over the internet.

    Exactly.
  6. @Peter112:

    > Are you Helpful? No
    > Are you Friendly? No
    > Are you Mean? Yes!

    I am helpful actually, helpful in the sense of telling you what most of us will do and what most of us will not do.

    Oh, and thank you for noticing. ;D
  7. Is this really down to discussion? I'd've thought the answer would be obvious; if you're not so good with VB, EO, good with VB, CSDE…

    With CSDE, you've got to consider that several things need finishing, rendering, for example. Then there's the UI system, and you may want to consider rewriting it. Then there's fMod, and the fact that you need to remember not to stop the IDE abruptly, lest it crashes...and more.

    Personally, I'd rather write a DX8 engine from scratch (Which I currently am. It's quite fun, actually. ;D), then you can organise code how you'd like, and won't have to spend another while familiarising yourself with the rendering code...not that it's particularly difficult.

    And, if you're wondering, no, I did not bother reading the thread. ;p
  8. ![](http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35436625/AlreadyDone.png)

    Finished validation checking. Events are completely done, and the dynamic system allows me to have a current maximum of 255 different codes. I can add more as I go along, easily, as it's a long value. I doubt I'm going to hit 2,147,483,647 any time soon. (Edit: Well, actually, there's the 64K limit, so scratch that, but it's still pretty hefty. ;p)
  9. @Bonk:

    > That's a really good idea :D
    >
    > If you're worried about people sending codes around, can't you make them player-specific? I have no idea how you'd do it, but it would be a solution at the least.

    Well, there's two other ways. I could do it the way Lightning did it, and add the name to an index, I can easily add in an index check under the Case "CODEHERE", to validate it. I can also make a seed generator, based on the players name, but I've no intention of doing that. That'd be overcomplicating things.

    Besides, I couldn't care less if the code spreads, I'd just be a bit miffed. ;x

    IP-FR-250A-GMP. That particular code allows you to get 250 free Gimp, regardless of whether you register. Do that, and the code I'll hand out, and you can get 1K gimp! The code is case insensitive, btw.
  10. OK, just think I'd get this clear here, for the bonuses, I'll PT everybody the code. I will be using the same code, so I'll trust you to not spread it, and if it spreads, it spreads.

    ![](http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35436625/ETRexample.png)

    By typing "/event", it brings up the event panel prompt. Simply type in your code, and, provided it's correct (case insensitive.), you'll get the bonuses the code promises. Codes can be used more than once, BUT, any item/skill based rewards WON'T happen again, only any codes that may warp you/change your colour, and so on. The code shown will not be used. ;D
  11. Register for the ETR, help, same difference.

    In essence, I'll just let the players get on with it (Except, I'll be requesting them to break it to whatever limits they can), and ask for their feedback when done. From which, I'll continuously evaluate and improve IP, maybe running a few more ETR sessions, until I'm ready for the final release, which isn't too far away.
  12. Added. If you decide to register, and help me out, you get:
    - 750 Gimp
    - Contributor Access in future releases, providing access to Contributor areas, and items
    - 5 random consumes of your choice (HP Serum, MP Serum, or EXP Serum)
    - A silver name!
  13. Simple. Make a word wrap function (GetWidth is a helpful function.), Render above the player, make a dynamic rect-based blting procedure, from a single graphic. Preferably small, but able to split, and piece together the graphic, add a GTC timer, call when needed.
  14. @Prince:

    > -VB.NET-

    :|

    Open VB, go into modClientTCP, and right near the top you'll see FrmMain.Socket.RemoteHost. Add;
    FrmMain.Socket.RemoteHost = "IPHERE."

    Make sure it's your external IP, and you've portforwarded your internal IP.
  15. @Bonk:

    > Out of interest, is there any particular reason you called it Iron Prelude? Does the game have some musical themes, or something else?

    Several reasons; One, I planned to make some form of sequel, linking in to the story, as it is pretty long for what I have down, and there's no way that I could feel that I could get it done in an MMO. If it's important, I plan to make a single-player RPG as a sequel to this. Two, I wanted to make a system like in Ocarina of Time, except, you'd require songs to kill certain monsters, subdue opponents, warp, open locks, etc. I really disliked OoT, but I liked the idea of the music integration itself, so in a way, this is my take on integrating music-based gameplay (Not that I'd have it done by next friday, this song editor is doing my head in.), and Three, Iron Prelude because the flute itself is called the Iron Prelude. I'm a fan of naming stuff after an event/item, and so on.
