Alright, Basic coloring and pillow shading needs to be fixed. Sometimes it's a personal preference, but many people prefer fewer black lines around graphics. It can be sometimes used to strengthen an image, but best if you use it as least as possible, which again, I say, is a general preference that I see a lot of people liking. But they can easily be replaced with darker lines of that color, or similar. With pixelling, a lot of it is trial and error, trialing a color, comparing it to another and so on. You won't get a perfect image without changing things around **a lot**. "Hue Shifting" is also another thing people talk about a lot, not just scaling the shades of the one color, but the hues as well. It brings in an entirely new look to your images, and can make them MUCH more appealing. [(Explained graphically)](http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7196) Sorry that this is turning into one of those tl;dr posts, so I'll show what I mean.. ![](http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/8799/monster1i.png)![](http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6268/impf.png) (Tried to keep your lineart the same, as a lot of things are probably what you wanted). Now this is a horrid edit of mine lol, and I'm certain someone here could do better, but it's a quick example :). Assuming it's an imp-like creature, it's skin would be light in spots. Monsters eyes should look less humanoid, gives it less of an intellectual look, and more vicious. Try not to 'decorate' your monsters with one pixel things, like the 'spike' things coming off the ears. So yeah, in short, change the colors, don't use basic simple colors, use interesting shades, change the hue and saturation around a bit, find better colors. This also, is only one way, and one persons opinion. And good lineart. :) EDIT: Oh forgot to say, good luck with the 100% custom graphics idea. It's admirable when people choose to do this, it's not as hard as a custom engine, but it can be quite time consuming.
