    > Wow… This looks great, but i want to critisize if you dont mind.
    > I dont like the trees, maybe a different color, or just remake the trees, they look too... blendy with the ground.
    > Maybe shadows at the bottom of the trees?
    > Maybe color up the game a but, it looks a bit on the dark side :(
    > Other wise, it looks great, reminds me of a game, but i dont remember which one, it was from the early to mid 90's.

    Blendy was exactly what I was looking for and the darkness is a style. It will make sense with the story and it adds some mood and character to the world.

    @Chief:

    > Enough pillow shading? Goodness, man!

    I just can't get away from it, but I like the new tree and I'll continue improving it. I just need to get the cliffs done and get back to environment design.
  2. @Dremek:

    > A technique I've seen if taking your grass tile, and taking the shadow, and put some transparency on the shadow, and then cut out the excess grass outside of the shadow, making it seem like there's a shadow on the grass tile, when it's really just one tile. Other than that, you're going pretty well and seem to be on the right track. Custom tiles are better than the usual XP tiles. I get sick of projects that use those.

    That's exactly what i did  :cheesy:

    I can darken up the shadow a bit more, and I need to add some depth like more shading on the outline and a shadow where the trunk meets the leaves. I'll get on that a post a preview, still deciding what to do for cliffs.

    UPDATE:

    (added tree leaves shadow, darkness on outline, and a darker and larger drop shadow)
  3. > Just finished up the first version of the new Tyras trees. Got lots of feedback on graphics, and the trees was the main complaint so I've completely redone the design. Still a work in progress.

  4. @SuperSake's:

    > Gahd, trees are flat. Shade under the leaves. Your sprites are pillow shaded and have black outlines, while your tiles do not. This could possibly work a style, but imo the tiles would need more detail to pull it off, and the pillow shading of the characters would have to be fixed regardless. Your rocks look more like Gravel from Minecraft than rocks, and you're trying to use like three different terrible ways of shading.

    As I've said before I am open to changing my graphics around and I take feedback as a way to improve. So, I've started on some new tree designs seeing as how my current one is a year old and basically just a gradient. Here's a quick preview of my progress on a kind of grasslands style tree:
    ![](http://i.imgur.com/s4Evu.png)

    I hope to finish this up and then make some variations for jungle and swampy regions. After that I'll begin to work on the cliff tiles since I haven't touched those in years.

    As for the character sprites, I think I'm going to stick with the black outline. It's been my style since the beginning and it really makes them pop in the environments. My newer sprites are definitely a lot more detailed, just slowly updating all the older ones that have very obvious pillow shading.

    Remember, I'm open to any sort of feedback. I want to make a game that not only I'm proud of, but will also be appealing to the players. Graphic concerns are the easiest to fix.

    P.S. Changed my Custom Title, made that back when I was young and cocky :P

    > Currently working on the first major city of Tyras, Ravenguard. It's my largest map so far and unlike Avian, all the graphics are done from scratch. Going to be a long process, but here's a quick preview to show you some progress.

    Another update!
  6. @Robin:

    > Jesus Christ. How many times are you going to ressurect this thing? xD

    I think it's been about three years now :cheesy:

    @Aeri:

    > Have you ever heard of shading before?

    Once again, graphics are a WIP. Most of the newer tiles I'm getting better at, but I've said before about my older tiles using lots of gradients and pillow shading.

    @Prince:

    > Your Tiles looks abit dark.

    Just an artistic choice of mine to have darker and higher contrast graphics than I did before.

    > Currently working on the starting zone, built to teach the player first hand about survival skills (ex. cure bleeding wounds/poison and craft bandages and other useful items), as well as give you some nice combat scenarios finishing with a nice troll miniboss.

    Hmm, that's a new one. I worked on this game a while back and people still remember it. I'd like a bit more explanation or suggestions if you really think I should change it.

    **About**
    Tyras is an adventure-based, massively multiplayer online role playing game. The focus is on questing based more on the journey than the objective. Whether you are climbing the tall, snowy peaks, avoiding deadly avalanches and vicious golems, or tracking down a wanted killer, using clues in the environment to guide you, Tyras has players rely more on their own instinct and awareness than told where to go by a quest tracker.

    Tyras will feature skill based combat with almost all skills having a sort of travel time. Players will be required to quickly line up and anticipate spells in the action packed battles against massive dragons and immense hordes of the undead.

    Tyras features a heavy reliance on first aid rather than healing spells. Players will have to patch bleeding wounds and cure poison and sickness effects using bandages and remedies gathered from the environment. With towns being scarce in the rough wilderness, players will rely heavily on the supplies they bring and what they can scavenge from their surroundings.

    Tyras is heavily cooperative, a game relying heavily on the supplies you bring, it's best to have some extra players in your group to distribute the bandages, remedies, maps, and tools needed for an adventure. Some quests are specifically built to promote group play, with puzzles requiring multiple layers and bosses that take multiple roles to take down.

  10. I read, while working on RMXP and RMVX games for a while, that you can use the RTP as long as you are making a free game or if you buy the RMXP or RMVX license before selling a product. Basically if your project becomes large enough you should spend the like $30 on the license.

    Yeah, thanks for using my map tutorial exactly, yet still making it worse…
  12. Here are a couple RMXP Christmas themed tiles and sprites. Most are not mine and are found on various websites such as RPG Revolution and RMXP Unlimited.

  13. I've been mapping for about 5 years now and I've been getting a lot better. Still, I always like to get feedback from those who would be playing the games. So, here's a couple maps I've made for a few different projects, just thought I'd get some feedback from you guys.
