Turn-based Battles

Just wondering if this was possible.

Instead of walking around and fighting monsters on the map, can you go into a turn-based battle mode (like final fantasy)? For example, I could walk around the map, get randomly attacked, and go into a battle scene (where you could select options such as "Attack", "Magic", "Items", etc.)
