How do i make my game so ppl can play it online?

hey everyone,

i recently downloaded eclipse, and i know about the server and that, but what i need to know is:

1) do i have to host my server program?
2) if so, how?
3) can i leave my server program running on my desktop and just hand out the client game, so when they play the game and i am connected to the internet, can they run the game from the server program i have running on my desktop?
