Homicidal Monkey
Ok… so after spending about 2 hours trying to upload my 22mb (compressed) client and failing, I decided to write this tutorial on how to decrease file sizes. The purpose is just to get around those "Max FileSize Upload Limits" on free websites by removing bulky unnecessary files. In this tutorial, Sections are arranged by amount of megabytes reduced. (Highest quality to lowest quality)- subtract about 87%: Add the file to a zip or rar file in max compression.- Subtract about 2%: Remove maps. They get downloaded anyway when client runs.- Subtract less than 1%: Remove News.ini and Config.ini. They are generated on client run.- Subtract 1%: (Not recommended) Remove GUI. Im pretty sure it will still load. (Atleast TE's source looks like it)- Subtract about 75%: Convert all bitmaps from 24 color to 16\. (can alter quality severely)By now you will have a low quality, piece of crap that vaguely resembles your orrigional client, but is probably less than 30mb without compression! :grin:Note* All data is based off the stock Client's files so it will vary.Note2* It is impossible to reduce to 0%. In reality the maximum % that the file could be reduced by is only a little more than 87%.Note3*All data is based on space after performing the step.
