Which to learn?

Okay I have been literally killing myself over which language to learn first, C++ or Java.

C++ seems like the much more advanced and professional language. It is the most used language in game development I believe and it seems more educated people tend to gravitate towards C++.

Java, on the other hand, seems much more used in freeware and open source programs however, it also seems like it has been becoming increasingly popular with professional companies aswell. In addition my school supports Java and offers Java classes and tutoring. It also seems much easier than C++.

Please, don't turn this into a C++ vs. Java debate. I would like to hear the pros and cons of both languages and then decide for myself. Thanks everyone

I have decided already to go with Java. After reading up on both my reasons for going with Java are as follows:

* High Schools, Colleges, and Universities have began supporting Java as there language of choice.
* After some thought I have decided to support the world of indie design and open source, since I tend to prefer that over professional design(and if you are wondering I am a supporter of the [Pirate Party](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party_international)
* Much Easier
* The virtual machine mechanism is highly intreuging, and I would like to experiment with it.
