  1. Its a random problem that happens for some reason. Only suggestion I have is to try moving the tileset slider and returning to the tileset you need, hopefully it refreshes. If not, try canceling and opening it again.

I'll try to replicate the problem and get back to you. But it happens randomly for me.
  2. Thanks for the idea. I'll be trying to edit this (and da_gad_pader's tut) to actually work in an online setting. Right now its more of a single player rpg kind of code. (without paperdoll and any server side changes)
  3. Thanks, lowering the height of the legs helped a lot. As for the arm swing, it is opposite of the legs. The legs swing back when the hands swing forward. ;)

  4. Anyways… I like the current style of it (even without any further shading). Not planning on changing it.
    ;)

Here's the walk animation I finally got time to throw together:

I feel like it has a problem.. any tips?

  5. @renzo:

    > The idea is still very half-baked, you need to take into consideration the economy with a fielty system.
    > How are the peasants going to get the money to pay their taxes? Are the Lords and Ladies going to pay them for their services?  And are you going to have enough homes for everyone to live in?  And peasants not allowed to enter cities, how are they going to get their supplies? Or deliver their products to the Lords and Ladies?
    >
    > Sounds nice but there are way to many things to think about to make this work.

I agree with Renzo in a way. This exact concept would be like building a whole economy into a game. And real economy's are of course too complex for us to even predict correctly. It would be a cool study, but for a game… i don't know what would make it playable.

    This part is interesting though:

    > If anyone with a title is killed, their title automatically transfers to the killer

That would be a cool feature for a game if it were planned out a little more.

  6. @SAubryTV:

    > Yeah i noticed that, but it doesnt have the source, just the vbp.

Isn't the vbp the source? You have to open it in visual basic 6 and compile the client. (Unless you mean something else)
  7. Yea, skill trees are WAY better gameplay wise. Players feel deeper in the game when they know they have to make a choice. Skill Trees being a big choice because your investing your earned points into a certain type of skill. You can split it up evenly, or just go all out on one branch.

With a skill leveling system, it's good for a sense of growing as you use the skills more often. But with this system you could just grind time and level ALL skills to max. I think it can be unbalanced.

    Win: Skill Tree!

    > Exactly! Much better, nice.

    Thanks!  :cheesy:

    > I see no future in your sprite…. what, I can't make a joke once a day?
    >
    > Anyways, you ignored my advices (Shading, Outlines, Hair) therefore I hate you.

lol I didn't ignore your outline advice. I've always liked a chibi, stubby look on sprites and I don't see how I can keep that and change it completely, AND still keep the 2x2 pixel style. I'll be making more attempts at pixel art as I learn but this topic was about this specific sprite.

As for hair and shading, I'll get to that, but I'd like to finalize a base first. Btw I just noticed who you were, I need to talk to you (PM)
  9. @Kusy:

    > **Screw the outline. Given the size of it - there's only that much you can do with pixels.** It doesn't look close enough to be connected, and I looked at Elandor's graphics a lot… I still have the whole gfx folder for it somewhere on my PC.

That's what I've been telling myself for the past hour trying to rearrange it. The only decent alteration I came up with was a taller version:

  10. @Mr.LLoyd:

    > Yes this looks better except that you can add 1 pixel to make the legs title longer.

Thanks, I tried that after you mentioned it, but it didn't look right.

    @Kusy:

    > Tis looks good.
    > It only proves that the first one simply looked like ballsacks - I only had to say it, and without any further explanation you knew what needs to change.

    LOL, thanks man.

    @nameless_soul:

    > 1\. The shading does not fit retro-styled graphics.
    > Try going through some spriting/pixel art tutorials to learn how to make shading correctly.
    > 2\. The outline looks the same as Kreator's old Elandor Chronicles character sprites.
    > Be original.
    > 3\. The shading of the hair is awful as well.
    > Same as #1, look for some spriting/pixel art tutorials.
    >
    > Other than that, I'd like to mention that the skin palette is great for my taste. You're improving Jake, nice to see you working hard.

1&3\. True, I'll work on that
2\. Now that you mention it, it does look the same after that arm position change… So should I just not work on it anymore? Especially if I had a game concept in mind with it.

But thanks, good to know I'm improving  ;)

  11. Honestly the graphics are fine for the Graal style he's going for. I'd say the house's roof is the only thing in need of a change.

Look at graal.. it's just a mesh of zelda and custom tiles. And their sprites aren't impressive either. Let him go with the style he wants to go with  ;)

I thought this topic was about the engine anyways?
  12. Constructive Criticism Appreciated!
