  1. > Bosses at least are easily identifiable, but it doesn't matter which you are, it's still hard to get respect.

Question is, how much is the respect worth?
  2. Sad to see many people go as well, didn't know I were on your bad side Rob, but there's nothing to do about that now.

I think people should spend less time trying to blame someone or something, it really makes time fly by faster, Kid haven't really had a lot of time to do anything, it seems that people thought changes were going to happen over a week.
  3. The leader is not always obvious in what he does, if you have played a lot of team games, say MOBA's or team orientated FPS games, the Leader may not always be obvious, thus not getting the respect he deserves, he may be carrying the team to victory, but the players do not always see it.
  4. > You need a degree to get a job in most serious places, or an awesome example that you can prove to demonstrate your skills. People can lie and cheat, to get a job, which is why diplomas are taken more seriously since they are much harder to cheat.

What Marsh said, while you might not get a top job right of the bat, working yourself up works pretty well as long as you can program, since jobs does really look mostly on experience, compared to education.
  5. > The lack of game design skill here jeez. Permadeath goes against pretty much every design goal of MMOs. Is there anything actually unique about this apart from the fact that you're using some other franchise's ideas?

I know a lot of people like perma death, mostly for bragging rights, while it is true that from a game design perspective, it really does aim for a rather specific audience, and a lot of people do not like it because it is very unforgiving, and can be discouraging and bad for the community, it can be done in ways to make it less so, I believe PoE does it well, while it's not truly permanent death, since your character does not disappear, it does however move the character from the "Hardcore" server to the "normal" server, you can do it in many similar ways.
  6. So, unless you are living under a rock, you may have heard of AGDQ - Awesome Games done Quick. It's a yearly event where people from everywhere come together to speedrun games, speedrunning games means you are finishing the game as quickly as possible, and they do this several days in a row, for a good cause, they are collecting money for different organizations, this year they are collecting for Prevent Cancer Foundation.

I recommend you check it out, it has some amazing moments where they really break your favorite games from your childhood.

Also if you're more of a memelord, it's the perfect place to keep up with the newest memes!
  7. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to make threads about how I need to head to the shop or how hungry I am. I see your point, however, the discussions in the shoutbox doesn't really fill enough purpose for threads, so a possible side effect is that the shoutbox disappears, and no new threads are made as compensation because there's really nothing worth making them for, and in the end it will just seem like an even deader place.

Edit: I just realised how biased I look.
  8. > big question for you though, how could this be a profession? Not trying to crush any dreams just curiocity about where one would apply for a paying job as a online moderator. its VERY easy to find unpaid moderators and its moderatly difficult to find good unpaid moderators but both dont take that much effort.

Big companies hire Community managers, they get paid to manage the community on a large basis, however, there's very few jobs for this, and a lot of potential candidates.
  9. It was cancelled, most likely because Eclipse is no longer a business like it was before, so Yukiro have no way of paying Jcsnider to work on the engine, which was actually further away from being done than you seem to think. Since Jcsnider choose to keep his code for himself, since that was the deal all along, that the engine was supposed to be Closed Source, he has all right to completely cancel it without releasing anything. To be honest, since Amish was already low on funds for it, it might have ended the same way eventually anyway.

Luckily for us, there is (yet) another engine being worked on, aside from the continuous work on Origins, there is now Lunar Eclipse, a new engine made in C# by the new volunteer developers, which both seem very competent thus far, however, I wouldn't' expect anything worthwhile for a couple of months, since it's a project that they are working on their spare time.
