  1. > That's not how pixel art works. It's all about trial and error.I've remade my tileset for over 4 years and I can say that even tho I'm still not happy with it I've gotten better. If you don't try to fix it even if its not broken you'll never improve. He just tried to remake his stuff and get better and it didn't go well.It doesn't mean you should go back to the old stuff it just means that you should try and remake then again to improve.

The old tiles still had room for improvement you know….. but they are way better than the current ones before he would create new tiles and adjust them based on feedback from us and thus improving himself.
  2. Yes the old mario games looked like that but because of graphic limitations don't tell me that looks better because it doesn't. The new mario games don't use one floor tile and if they do they don't look like that. If you was making an 8 bit game it might possibly look ok but your not.
  3. Go look at Z9Star, Maplestory, Windslayer,Wonderking,Soul Saver Online and the way they lay out ground tiles. They do have pure grass tiles on upper levels but not on the ground. What makes it look good would to add some sought of dirt under the grass because it doesn't look good how it is.
  4. The trees just look poorly made in comparison to the old ones and the tiles in general just look plain as you said. The sprites leg looks a bit off to. Also why can't we see the other arm of the sprite? We should be able to. For a side scroller grass shouldn't be like that in my opinion you should only see a small portion of it at the top with dirt of rock or whatever it is under it. Look at your old tiles in comparison to these new ones they just look worse not only in style but in terms of how they are made.

    > Art is art, though. Maybe they'll grow on you  ;)  I don't remember if I was amazingly crazy about them at first either, but now I think they're perfect. Could you maybe articulate what it is about their collective effort that makes them not-so-great? These are literally some of the first ones I made.

The ones on the second video some needed a bit of work and so did the UI but you should just expand on what you had before you had something good going
