  1. > I really disagree with that. The community is at a point where all the games are exactly the same. A single player engine will first of all add a whole new set of games to the community but will also force people to focus on gameplay more instead of simply hoping that the online element will appeal to people.

Developers should focus on gameplay whether it's online or not. I seriously doubt a single-player engine is going to make people better developers. However, it's not a bad idea. Have you considered lan capability?
  2. > Dangit paying someone for that im gonna have a look hope it can work with Dragon Eclipse ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)
    >
    > Where is Cs:De ?

Yes it would work in Dragon Eclipse.. Cs:De is in "Robin's History Bundle".
  3. > Yes but I put the picscreen to a image but black is drawn over it im thinking from DrawInventory How would I make it so when It Draw inventory it transparent so showing the picInventory. Isnt [background=rgb(248, 248, 248)]the last 0 transparency so if I changed to 1 it would make it transparent because RGBA the A stands for Alpha[/background]
    >
    > [background=rgb(248, 248, 248)]D3DColorRGBA(0, 0, 0, 0) [/background]

oreo gave you the correct answer. by "drawing" the inventory to picscreen, he doesn't mean to simply give the picscreen a picture. he means you need to render the inventory differently through code so that the black becomes transparent and you can see the background image. its not as simple as just changing an rgb value.
  4. The end of one thing is just the beginning of another. Unless we have a global disaster that we can't recover from, the world (culture) as we know it will simply die and be reborn again. The reason I say this is because everytime in history that there's been social/political problems like there has been in the last 10 years there is always people saying its an apocalyptic event. Here are some past dates that were seen as a climax to reformed societies (apocalypse):

**2800 BC** **According to _Isaac Asimov's Book of Facts_ (1979), an Assyrian clay tablet dating to approximately 2800 BC was unearthed bearing the words "Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common." This is one of the earliest examples of the perception of moral decay in society being interpreted as a sign of the imminent end.**

**634 BC** **Apocalyptic thinking gripped many ancient cultures, including the Romans. Early in Rome's history, many Romans feared that the city would be destroyed in the 120th year of its founding. There was a myth that 12 eagles had revealed to Romulus a mystical number representing the lifetime of Rome, and some early Romans hypothesized that each eagle represented 10 years. The Roman calendar was counted from the founding of Rome, 1 AUC (_ab urbe condita_) being 753 BC. Thus 120 AUC is 634 BC. (Thompson p.19)**

**ca. 70** **The Essenes, a sect of Jewish ascetics with apocalyptic beliefs, may have seen the Jewish revolt against the Romans in 66-70 as the final end-time battle. (Source: PBS Frontline special [_Apocalypse!_](http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/apocalypse))**

**247** **Rome celebrated its thousandth anniversary this year. At the same time, the Roman government dramatically increased its persecution of Christians, so much so that many Christians believed that the End had arrived. (Source: PBS Frontline special [_Apocalypse!_](http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/apocalypse))**

**848** **The prophetess Thiota declared that the world would end this year. (Abanes p.337)**

**1000** **There are many stories of apocalyptic paranoia around the year 1000\. For example, legend has it that a "panic terror" gripped Europe in the years and months before this date. However, scholars disagree on which stories are genuine, whether millennial expectations at this time were any greater than usual, or whether ordinary people were even aware of what year it was. An excellent article on Y1K apocalyptic expectations can be found at the [Center for Millennial Studies](http://www.mille.org/scholarship/1000/AHR9.html). (Gould, Schwartz, Randi)**

**Sep 23, 1186** **John of Toledo, after calculating that a planetary alignment would occur in Libra on September 23, 1186 (Julian calendar), circulated a letter (known as the "Letter of Toledo") warning that the world was to going to be destroyed on this date, and that only a few people would survive. (Randi p.236)**

**1260** **Italian mystic Joachim of Fiore (1135-1202) determined that the Millennium would begin between 1200 and 1260\. (Kyle p.48)**

**Feb 14, 1420** **Czech Doomsday prophet Martinek Hausha (Martin Huska) of the radical Taborite movement warned that the world would end in February 1420, February 14 at the latest. The Taborites were an offshoot of the Hussite movement of Bohemia. (McIver #71, Shaw p.43)**

**Feb 1, 1524** **The End would occur by a flood starting in London on February 1 (Julian), according to calculations some London astrologers made the previous June. Around 20,000 people abandoned their homes, and a clergyman stockpiled food and water in a fortress he built. (Sound familiar? It's just like the doomsday cultists and Y2K nuts of today!) As it happened, it didn't even rain in London on that date. (Randi p.236-237)**

**1537** **French astrologer Pierre Turrel announced four different possible dates for the end of the world, using four different calculation methods. The dates were 1537, 1544, 1801 and 1814\. (Randi p. 239)**

**ca. 1555** **Around the year 1400, the French theologian Pierre d'Ailly wrote that 6845 years of human history had already passed, and the end of the world would be in the 7000th year. His works would later influence the apocalyptic thinking of Christopher Columbus. (McIver #72)**

**1654** **In 1578, physician Helisaeus Roeslin of Alsace, basing his prediction on a nova that occurred in 1572, foresaw the world ending in 1654 in a blaze of fire. (Randi p.240)**

**Fall 1694** **Drawing from theology and astrology, German prophet Johann Jacob Zimmerman determined that the world would end in the fall of 1694\. Zimmerman gathered a group of pilgrims and made plans to go to America to welcome Jesus back to Earth. However, he died in February of that year, on the very day of departure. Johannes Kelpius took over leadership of the cult, which was known as Woman in the Wilderness, and they completed their journey to the New World. Fall came and went and, needless to say, the cultists were profoundly disappointed at having traveled all the way across the Atlantic just to be stood up by Jesus. (Cohen p.19-20)**

There are countless other points in history that were viewed as apocalyptic.. It makes me think that people actually want the world to come to an end, because they're bored.

  5. > I thought it makes things simple by making releases kind of like expansions, one big town, dungoens at one time aslong with item teirs.

That's the plan ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png) Zetasis and I are currently doing extensive mapping so content expands nearly every day. When new zones are complete I show a teaser here. Our decision to leave alpha, beta etc open is so that we can get feedback regularly, to minimize bugs and possibly add/change in game content to suit players needs/wants.
  6. > Im no pro, but is it me or the angle is much lower than on RMXP. i feel like this would be less for a top-down and more for a side-scroller. i dunno im no expert in sprites

Even rmxp could be more top-down, like zelda: lttp for example where you can see the entire tops of the trees. There is a wide range of angles one can use in this style. Think of it in terms of degrees. If you're looking straight down at an object that's 90 degrees. Anywhere from about 70 to 30 degrees is what is normally used for top-down games.
  7. > Wait, I'm confused now. With the event system you can use branches with the switches from other steps/events to make check what step you are at. Using this you could do everything a quest system could do so I don't why people say we need one still..
    >
    > What exactly are people wanting out of a quest system that you can't already do with the event system? I need someone to explain what is missing so I can work on adding it in.

The event system does not do kill counts. Also, it only checks for one of a certain item instead of multiples. If you can change that and release tutorials I'll worship you! XD
  8. Would like some feedback on this tree:

    Resized:

  9. Just some constructive criticism. The tree border is poorly done, specifically the protruding parts. Also, the trunk needs more shading, maybe an additional highlight. As for the palette I think its nice and easy on the eyes.
  10. > I have to agree with that.
    >
    > If you open a door if the player doesn't need to go in that zone yet will that place be opened to everyone.

No, the door won't be open to everyone because player switches and variables only activate for the player. Unless it's a global event.
  11. As Escalon evolves we're attempting to create a rich storyline and events that coincide with it. The game will remain open-world concept, with the exception of a main plot which is connected by smaller stories and events you find throughout the world.

An Introduction to the Main Plot:

The inhabitants of Escalon lived their lives without much thought of tomorrow. Order reigned and peace guided the peoples, even among the different races for a few thousand years.

They hadn't forgotten their dark past however. For it was in 50 AC (After Creation) that a great and bloody war of Dragons was waged. The "Dark Dragons", unjust and full of hate for mankind, fought the "Mystic Dragons", those who enforced order, to obtain the Rod of Power: the ultimate source of all magic. In the end, the Mystic Dragons won the war and placed the rod deep within a cave which is guarded by Gnomish Seers even to this day. If it were to fall in the wrong hands, the magic of the rod could be limited to those who had control of it.

Now the Dragons have become old and their tales are becoming but a fading memory. Yet their wisdom is saught often, especially in times of trouble. And troublesome times are these indeed. In an attempt to seize the Rod of Power a group of wicked men known as the Illuminated Ones have used their magic to hypnotize powerful creatures and men to do their bidding. They instigate trouble wherever their feet take them, leaving behind a trail of dark mist and a feeling of dread comes to any who meet them.

On the southwest tip of Escalon, near Vandale a strange unknown ship has crashed and some of it's passengers now wash up on Vandale Beach. They are unaware of how this story affects them, or what role they will play in the kingdoms' survival.
  12. The mapping is good, but the houses shouldn't all look the same. Also this line in your game desc needs to be made more coherent because its hard to understand: "not to mention the bosses who can use various spells provided powerful curses that can make your friend turn against you, till it turns into one of his subordinates.." Overall, not a bad start.
  13. > And the arms look like dicks! ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)

all i can say is lolz XD

im taking this all in so i can get better
  14. > I knew its perspective was off. Now after reading this and looking at it I'm confused at my reasoning for the way I had shaded.

    > Hows this look? [http://i.imgur.com/yf9Jr.png](http://i.imgur.com/yf9Jr.png)

    Looks better imo ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)
  15. > It reminds me of a Final Fantasy sprite (from 6 in particular) on steroids! Asides Nook's suggestions, it looks like it's on the right track. The shading of the chest (to me anyway) looks pretty good.

Thanks.. Ive always had a hard time with sprites. Mostly with dimensions and shading in particular. Hence, why im getting feedback.
  16. > Lil more done.

    > I know most of its not needed to show.. but I didn't wanna crop.

The perspective of the roofs don't match that of the walls/trees etc. The darker shade near the bottom and the amount you can see near the back creates a sharper top-down angle than the rest. Other than that, nice work.
  17. > The hair looks a little odd to me.
    >
    > His muscular core seems to take up so much room that his shoulders look puny and drawn back. The lack of a visible neck tells me this is a top-down perspective, but in a truly top-down the pectorals aren't so high that we can't even see the top of the shoulders.
    >
    > The arms should reach the bottom of the pockets (not the end of the shirt).
    >
    > The thighs are thicker than the hips for some reason? In this size of a canvas, a pixel can be several inches, so that bulge can't just be his baggy pants. I've never worn baggy clothing that sticks out several inches from my thighs.
    >
    > Until the latter two are fixed it's hard to say what else needs fixing with the leg proportions. The shading under the knees makes them look bent a little.
    >
    > The feet look like balls.
    >
    > That's not to say it's bad… just sharing what caught my eye ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)

thanks for the input.. ill keep those things in mind for next time
