UPDATE:

see main post. -
Almost looks like a clay-mation set. Very interesting! I would like to see more development in this style!
-
Looks amazing dude, as always. I agree though, you should totally put out a game, eclipse or not, with these tiles. I was looking forward to every single project in the past that you attempted to release. A finalized game would be epic.
Good looks! -
That was the intent. Haha.
Concerning the sprite, yeah, the front and back are pretty standard and easy to get right.
The trick with the side comes with the perspective I have the sprite in, and attempting to give his arms some sway. I may try other positions, as well as giving him an item to hold. Maybe it will look a bit more like a walking motion….
Thank you. -
…directional sprite.
UPDATE #1:
(FIX)
After the input of my original style being rather odd, I switched back to my previous style. Mimicking the side-scrolling sprites I produced a while back, these are a type of hybrid. Semi-detailed stick figures. The "detail" will be in the accessories. Haha...

~~This is for a type of dungeon-crawler game I have been thinking up. These sprites are "desktop dungeon" influenced, prior to the major GFX revamp.~~
~~These probably won't be the final product. I am not sure how I feel about the "side-ways" movement. I may even make the movement more simple (2 frame, rather than attempting 4).

Damn dude, any more realistic and I'll be tempted to build a freaking tree house in your work. Looks great!

sokoban?
looks nice! -
> The pumpkin's shadow should look a lot like this in-game. Thought, this is just a mock-up and does not represent the quality of the final product.
Gotcha.
…And a jack-o-lantern is a pumpkin with the face carved out. No light necessary, although possibly preferred. -
Looks good, but needs some more shading. I've found that stone may need a couple of shades to get it right, even if you are only using two or 3 tones for everything else.
Glad you picked the tileset, that you did. -
Looks pretty sick man! Keep up the good work.
Also, is that shadow alpha blended, or just for the mock-up? (In reference to your pumpkin sprite's shadow in your other thread) -
1, the rest look like creepy dolls. Haha.
-
Lmao, from the description of that character, it seems like it will be one sick game of D and D.
Reminded me of this…

P.S., that rock star must be sick if he turned nightmare from SC into a ~~guitar~~. (mighty axe)
Pretty sick man! -
This looks pretty sick. Would be cool to see a Harry Potter type game out there. Especially since most RPG elements could be easily implemented to complement the whole basis of a "wizard" game. Looking forward to this.
Also, very creative use of these tiles! -
Thanks. Haha, well how else are players going to stay in shape? ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)
It was intended to be a 2-frame standing animation. -
> XD big head if you've seen reborn anime/manga there's a character named reborn who has a big head and small body this reminds me of him
Haha, I looked the anime up and do see the resemblance. Good show.
Anyways, another update.
I didn't get to join the project I had intended on, but I have the last bit of pixel art I created for it. This is a mockup demonstrating the finalized sprite, and some of the tiles that I created. I'm not going to continue work on these GFX any further, so this is as far as I got…

Good luck with things guys.

So after going back to study a million images of Wind Waker to be able to give you accurate criticism, I can honestly say that you are off to a good start. From look at the texture of the cliffs, it looks like you are grasping the Wind Waker style…
The cell-shading effect is pretty hard to obtain, but from the looks of the cliffs, you seem to be replicating it pretty well. However, I would say that I feel the colors should be more vibrant. You mentioned that you took the palette directly from WW, but I feel that the colors should be more vibrant. Especially if you are using about 2-3 tones for your shading. Your cliffs have a nice tone, but I would brighten up your grass, sand, and water.
Also, you need to soften up your edges. Your cliffs and water borders are entirely too square. After many years of erosion, you should end up with something looking like this...
http://tinyurl.com/cqbe244
I found this link to provide you with some more textures ripped straight from the game...
http://www.textures-resource.com/wii_gamecube/tLoZWW/sheet/429
I figure this could help you with all the basics you need; land, cliffs, trees, and even your transitions.
Overall, I think these are pretty sick. I hope you're putting them to good use by creating some sort of Wind Waker based game. I am in love with the graphics from the game, and any project basing visuals off of WW would look amazing.
Good job! -
Hey hey hey now. Before my graphics get bashed any further, haha. When I first noticed jakes game, I thought the retro graphics were amazing. However just as I told him, I felt that they needed to pop a bit more. Something needed to be done to make them stand out, but adding an outline would make it too much like the rotmg style. That's why I took his concept and revamped it a bit. The style is still supposed to have a retro esque, but I felt the big obnoxious heads would make it more interesting. I'd still consider it retro simply because all it is IS just a stick figure. Its a style that I fancy. The emphasis won't be on clothes as much as I would like to see nice looking hats and big ass weapons. Again, its a style. However I am not knocking the retro because my style is based off of it. I wouldn't mind working with whatever. Like I said, this is just something I fancy. I'm fine with either. Whatever the people wanna see, I would just hope I get a bit more of a chance to shine with my graphics before the decision is made. Give me some time…

That would be awesome! Customizable characters, not only colors, but a variety of options. I think it'd be pretty sweet to have a "chemistry" system if possible, to create new types of bombs. (Players would have to know recipes to create bombs with special effects, or massive bombs, etc.)
Going to keep an eye on this project. Looking forward to some crazy stuff! -
This looks sick! Would be sweet if you kept the RPG elements and figured out a way to tie them in. This looks awesome though!

@Zesh:
> Aha, love the big head :P
Thanks! :cheesy: Even though they may look a little weird, I think its a good touch.
@DeathTheKid:
> It's nice!
Appreciate it!
@Agoraphobic:

Lmao, that movie is pretty funny. Good catch!
@Niko:
> Good work
Means a lot! I have looked up to you and some of the others around the forum who are kick ass with graphics. Doin' my best to get some approval! :P
UPDATE:

Drawn to Life?
…If so, your "based-ness" is pretty accurate in concerns to the style.
However, for the purposes of creating your own game, or even just your own GFX, I would reconsider. It worked for the people who made the game, and then made money off of doing graphics like that. For your sake, I'd improve my own skills rather than attempting to recreate someone else's.
It would be almost as if you were attempting to draw a Picasso (abstract-esque) without first knowing how to paint realistically.
On that note, I quite like the sprite. Its pretty "cute." I would say if you decide to continue working with it, take some time to study some old Pokemon sprites for inspiration. It may help you fine tune things a bit more.
Looking forward to more!
