Pixel Block Sneak Peek

Me and Champion Iris are working on a sandbox game called "Pixel Block" we have same basic stuff done so far and i decidet to show it to you guys to get some opinions :]

This is a peview of an cold area.

It's a bit like Terraria, and Junk Jaxx (sp?). You start at the far left of the world, and your main incentive is to explore. The world is infinite (fundamentally speaking.), and it's chunk-based, so, it's pretty lagless. At the moment, we haven't really done any more than graphics, generation for the world (Which consists of nothing more than dirt, grass, stone, tress, and leaves at the moment. ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)), but development is going smoothly.

New demo here, since the previous updates, I've added chasms, and world saving/loading.

Now, if you see the changelog, you'll find:

The trees/wood have far more contrast than the ground. The wood doesn't tile nicely. After an MMO roguelike, I expected something more interesting from you. Either way, good luck and all.

It's a demo. Not even an alpha. Stuff'll change, and stuff obviously aren't done.

Er, like I said, collission's botched, mainly because I did the bounding boxes rather stupidly. xD

Yep, given that all they do is dig down at the moment (Or rather, start from a point underground, and dig up), and have a 1-in-5 chance of generating. I'll reduce it to something like 1-in-8/10, and I'm also changing chasm generation around by quite a bit, to be more natural looking, and less…straight. ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)

As for the chasms near the chunks, I didn't notice that, and that should've been obvious to me, but hey, thanks for telling me.

As for the ~<1 second wait when generating chunks, blame the obvious lack of threading, and the fact that it has to generate a 16x1024 chunk quickly, combined with the need to unload the chunks that don't need to be in memory. I'll try out other methods of controlling it, such as keeping a chunk-memory timer, that unloads it after a certain period of inactive time.

In saying that it's a remake of Minecraft, he proves a point. You might say "theres other games like this that look like minecraft n00b", but considering that Minecraft came to both my mind and his when we saw this, and the fact that it looks EXACTLY like Minecraft, might make you want to reconsider how things are done.

Getting angry over having your game compared to something else is childish, and will result in another Psythiroi (Or however the duck you spell that bum candy) fiasco.

The game isn't original if it immediately gets someone thinking about a different game. That's what we're telling you.

Yes, if I saw this, I would say "why would i play this when i can just play minecraft, and probably have a better time". Fix that.

Afcorse you gonna think of minecraft now if anyone makes a sandbox game they will just say minecraft or terraria copy.And also

For duck sake minecraft is a 3D game and also there will be a lot things changed like graphics and added becouse this game isnt even in alpha stage we are just posting this out to find bugs.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone call Skyrim or GTA a "minecraft clone". You want to know why? Because they do something different. There is nothing that sets aside this from Minecraft or Terraria because all you've presented us with are blocky graphics and a randomly generated world and now especially the only thing that comes to mind is Minecraft or Terraria.
