Alright guys, the voting has come to decide the new developer for Eclipse.

**Name: Deathbeam/Nyan**

Engine: [http://www.touchofde…eclipse-reborn/](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/index.php?/topic/130284-eclipse-reborn/)

> My original plan was to make engine, what will be using full potential of DX8, so people using won´t be limited to make retro and old-school games. But then i decided that i should add more features and rewrites, what will help game developers to make good game even with little programming knowledge. So i added simple event system. Then, when i was working on my game, i found that developing content is a bit tricky too, so i rewrote and added some features what will help with it. Then i looked deeper into code and removed all useless junk what was left there from Mirage. When doing it, i found that spells are pretty basic, so i rewroted part of it and made it a bit more advanced.
>
> **My current ToDo list:**
>
> - Finish DoT and HoT for new spell system (Now it is changing only HP, not MP)
>
> - Sort things in modText and move text engine to clsDirectX8
>
> - Finish Fogs, Weather and Map Tinting
>
> - Add change Fog, Weather, Map Tint, Play Sound, Stop Sound, Play BGM, Stop BGM and Spawn NPC to Event system
>
> - Add Quest system what can be fully operated throught Event system (some sort of E/Q hybrid)

> My goal for Eclipse isn't necessarily a rewrite of the engine, but I believe it has a lot of room for improvement before beginning to add new features to the stock release.
>
> I truly believe that this will require team work, relying on individual strengths while sticking to a standardized method and structure.
>
> I want to optimize client and server functions to increase performance, then focus on the features the community desired based on a voting system. Since this should be a community based engine, I'd want the community to have input on what changes should be made, and have the development team, led by the new developer, make any major decisions or the method on how it's done.
>
> Some people who come to the forums are looking for a lot of features, and I want to cater to them as well, but I believe it will faulter without optimization. My custom engine was merely something I believe users may be find beneficial but it's not my direction for the official engine.
>
> Users will receive weekly updates from the dev team, a common Dropbox to get the latest versions as we develop them, and a blog reel on the forums to let you know where we are headed.
>
> You need not fear, quests, guilds, modified combat, movement, lighting will be added but after the engine has been stabilized.
>
> If you want to see my past experience check out my custom version, Aloria Online, or Artifact www.samugames.com/artifact I am now a paramedic studying medicine however I have a diploma in IT for community college from 8 years ago.

> So many custom versions, so few applicants… I wonder why? Maybe it's because half of the custom versions are EO w/ added tutorials... hmmm

Yeah.

Also, this is hard.

I think I will vote for rob, it seems to me that he can lead eclipse towards brighter future. ;D

Nyan/Deathbeam is good too, but it seems to me, that rob fits more for this.

> I like Rob's engine but i voted for Nyan because ER ui looks better, it's nothing anyway Rob had far more votes so it doesn't matter ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)

> *snip* UI is one of main parts of every game, and when it is fully rendered and not some sort of lazy vb6 thingy, it is looking alot more professional and better. And with rendered UI you can customize it alot more than with vb6 one.

No? the UI is not one of the main parts…You don't want your UI looking better than the actual game...You would want the game SCREEN looking better, if you don't like the UI, you can change it with gimp or whatever. The UI shouldn't be one of your top priorities in make a game ._.' also RENDERING IS STILL VB6....and you still have the same functionality without rendering, same goes with customising.

FYI; 1) My custom engine is NOT going to be an official version if I win, stock Eclipse needs far more work, nor will it be built upon Crystalshire. 2) I have a 800x600 mask UI rendered over the win32 elements, however I kept win32 elements for the simple fact that if you want to be able to customize the look of a rendered UI, you need to know the code, versus click-drag resizing. But this is neither here nor there, a UI personally, is a nice, finishing touch, but merely that, finishing touches. Just my two copper.

Voted for Rob Janes, I see his visions of Eclipse going very far for the community, but may the best man win.

On that topic of UI, UI is NOT the seller of a game or engine, nor should it be. It should be what the game does well or what the engine provides for the developer, and a UI is not the biggest concern, if anything this should be looked at last.
