Mirage Source 4

Mirage Source 4 is the engine that Eclipse is based from. It does not have as many features as the current version of Eclipse. And it may have a few more bugs as well. So it is not a good idea to start a first project with it. Though it still maybe good for other uses.

jowd? u best need to compare dates b/c its impossable for #4 to have been the orginal Eclipse Base,

ik i been here alot longer then you and longer then this account. so FYI i would rember the current souce was 3+ or less during time i made this account. OMG >.> i think ur another of the ppl dat talk with out actual looking up stuff( yaa i went and checked far as i see first hit of ms 4 is 2009 , guess wat my account pre-date's it.)

Is this coming from the same person who thinks age = bad programming language? Compared to the rest of the garbage engines on here it's as clean as possible.

Alright. Please define as many areas as possible where EO is a "bloody mess".

And, yes, I'm serious. It gets really annoying when members left, right and center say that EO has problems, yet many can't even explain the problems, let alone label them.

I think C++ is a fine language if you like to waste time coding your own memory management. Although, more control is good for companies not individuals. Results matter not control, if you can't get results control is useless. C++ is much older than Visual Basic 6, so your point is invalid. I've coded in Visual Basic 6 for about 5-6 years. I started off using Sadscript via XtremeWorlds, came here and played around with the engine for a long time, so I am not an idiot who knows nothing about programming. I'll list all the issues with the engine for you, then.

1. No centralized project. Like our source code has a Dream library that the client, toolkit, and server uses to get rid of redundant code. For example, you have so much code that is duplicates of something in another project (ModConstants as an example).

2. Poor networking. WinSock is garbage, Lidgren networking is way better.

3. Outdated and poorly supported language that is literally unused by anyone with half a brain.

4. Poor source management. There's so much recopied code that could of been shortened by a function to make the source cleaner. For example, packets could of been handled much better as could of loading data in the server. There's just so many horrible things done with it.

5. No classes. Procedural programming is redundant in itself. OO is a much better designed programming language. This is an issue with the language lacking it, another reason not to use it.

I'm not a programmer as my primary work in game development, but I know enough about it for my design work.

Well, at least you can actually list some general issues to go with that statement, but I still feel it's an exaggeration to call it a "bloody mess".
