Rules (Updated)

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, i am rewriting the set of rules. We have a couple different ones floating around but they are either over simplified or incredibly drawn out.

Basic Rules to adhere to. Explained only if necessary. Along with the suggested warn value. This will be increased or decreased based on a per offense basis.

**Rules**

**Spam** +20 Warning

Do not post ridiculous or completely unrelated info. Do not post the same thing over and over again.

**Shout** +10 Warning

Do not make posts containing all capital letters. Or use vulgar or inappropriate language.

**Necropost** +15 Warning

Do not bump or reply to a topic that is over 30 days old. This does not apply to your own topics if they are still relevant. Though a topic should not be bumped more then once every 24 hours. This also does not apply to the tutorials board.

**Mimic other members** +10 Warning

Do not create accounts copying another members name. Do not pretend to be them.

**Make multiple accounts.** Banning of secondary account or both

Do not make multiple accounts. At Eclipse we offer free name changes. Evading a ban by creating a new account will result in your temporary ban becoming permanent. If you have siblings or others who use Eclipse in your house its best to shoot a pm to a staff member. Or if you simply want a fresh account let us know beforehand.

**Post offensive material** +25 Warning

Do not post pornography, gore or other inappropriate material. Use your common sense folks. There are kids on this forum.

**Harass or insult other members** +25 Warning

Do not insult another member for any reason. If you have a problem with someone report them. This can be done in pm as well. Making fun of them for their spelling or grammar is not ok. There first language may not be English and it just makes this community come off as huge jerks. Commenting rudely on posts that are incomplete and or not following the rules is also **NOT** ok. Simply report the thread and move on. Starting giant flame wars over mistakes is not ok. This is the internet, this stuff happens every day. Learn to deal with it.

**Flame Bait** +25 Warning

Do not attempt to annoy other members in an attempt that they break rules yelling at you. Taunting members or saying that you were "simply joking" after harsh comments will receive the same punishment as harassing them directly.

**Back-Seat moderate** +15 Warning

Do not act like a moderator. If you see someone breaking the rules simply report the topic. Acting like a moderator while not having the powers just leads to huge fights. If you wish to be a moderator apply to my inbox.

**Plagiarize other people's work**

For a more in depth guide on plagiarism and its punishments please see: [http://www.touchofde…960-plagiarism/](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/index.php?/topic/118960-plagiarism/)

**Disrespect any administrator or moderator** +25 Warning

If you have a problem with a member of the staff yelling or insulting them is not going to get results. After all they hold the power in this situation. Then no matter how justified you may have been you broke the rules. It is very hard to determine what happened after a case like this. If you believe you are being improperly cheated simply screenshot or record the issue and send me a personal pm about it. I have reversed countless warnings and bans.

**Argue with moderation decisions** +25 Warning

Refer to the above note.

Post anything illegal

Advertise other game engines.

Flame other communities.

Use inappropriate or very long thread titles.

Create public arguments.

Let discussions flood over in to other topics.

*** Any type of unmentioned or extreme situation is to be handled at the admins discretion.

**Shoutbox**

As additional note i would like to talk about the shoutbox. We have members asking questions in there daily. Which as we know is against the rules. This is going to happen until the end of time. Users really need to calm down about this. I have seen countless members leave are community immediately after joining because of being insulted in the shoutbox just minutes after signing up.

If you see someone posting a question or advertising in the shoutbox simply state. There is no questions or advertising allowed in the shoutbox. If they get mad or continue to ask questions simply ignore them. A mod should come around and mute them, if no one is on you can also shoot me or another moderator a pm to mute them personally. Please provide evidence if this happens.

Calling them a idiot and flaming them will result in you getting some pretty harsh warnings. So lets just avoid it in general. I know it can be frustrating, but it IS the internet. Not everyone is going to read the rules on signup.

**Extras**

Well what can i say at this point? Thanks for reading the rules! you have already done the community a great service for doing so. Adhere by them and help others make Eclipse a friendlier and happier place. I will be going through the forums in the coming week to slowly clean out and individual forum rules that may be outdated.

If you are confused about something or think another rule should be added feel free to post here or pm me concerning the issue.

Does this mean that we have to post new topics for just a silly question?

Not a fan of this one. I don't see how disrespecting a complete newbie is more "acceptable" than disrespecting an admin/moderator.

If it hasn't already been posted or a previously posted thread doesn't solve your problem, I believe so.

So much points for spamming… (I have now 2 warning points, so it seems a lot to me ![:D](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png) )

Also, is there some kind of limit, when you get ban?

For example like:

100 - 200 = ban for 2 weeks..

201 - 300 = ban for 3 weeks...

more than 500 = perma ban...

> the second account thing, is that just for banned people or for everyone? i always use throwaway email adressses and forgot PW to original acc.

If we see that you are in good standing and arent logging into multiple accounts at once it should be fine. We have also had people pretend there multiple users in the past and have full on conversations with themselves.

Ok, how are you going to tell if someone makes a new account, are you going to regulate emails, passwords, IP adresses, what? there is no "best" way of doing it

As far as I know, with the new site they have added in some security measures to prevent or cut down on banned people being able to create new accounts. For that rule its more so if we figure out someone who was banned has made a new account by IPs and other ways, the new account will then be banned.
