Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

For the next 30 days I'm going to stream each day about 3-6 hours covering topic like,

How to:

* Map (the proper way)
* Create Item/Monsters
* Make a Story/Lore for your game
* Make quests following your story
* Improve your mapping (that you already have)
* Balance your game.

Each day I will try to cover a subject and explain it so everyone could understand how to make his own game.

So for example in day one I will talk about general mapping, way to map and how your maps should look like.

On this subject I'll cover different mapping styles and themes like Mountains, Dungeons/Caves, Plains, etc.

My stream should be up at 8PM (GMT+2) and I'll have a small break at 9:30PM/10PM, which will also conclude part one. At 11PM the stream should be back online and part 2 of the day will continue.

Please address me all your questions related to the topics listed above and I'll be sure to answer each question and also to include an example.

If you want to come online with me on the stream and talk about a topic, feel free to PM me and tell me what subject you want to cover/talk about.

**Stream will be live at this link**: [http://www.twitch.tv/neoxsd/old](http://www.twitch.tv/neoxsd/old)

> And to tack on to this, I'd like to humbly ask what makes you an authority on the aforementioned topics?

Authority? No authority involved here ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png) Just talking about this topics based on my own experience.

I have some projects that I have worked on like Silverdale and Blasters Online + other projects on other forums.

So this tutorials are intended to help new developers to better understand how they should develop their games, hopefully to increase the quality standards sooner or later.

I understand the ideology and you have good intentions. My question was more or less directed towards your own works; what have you made that stands out that could lend you authority in the various topics that you will be discussing? Do you have any examples?

Silverdale and Blasters Online are my two biggest projects.

And everything I'm going to show live on the stream will be used on my upcoming project.

> It's not rude, it's an opinion/observation.

Opinions can still be rude. Especially coming from someone who has literally no experience in game development. Anyway, he seems to not understand different styles of mapping and art - create different tensions for certain audiences. It is basically, a key component of developing a world and understanding what attracts people to it. So, basically it is rude to judge mapping on your own standards. You need to understand the niche very well that the game is being tailored for.

Your rhetoric bores me; you may want to explicitly define who you're referring to and include yourself and Neox. Tell you what; with your mode of thinking, include everyone in this community. My 12+ years of working with various technologies, toolsets, languages, and other development solutions means jack shit, apparently.

I'm curious as to how you know anyone's past and/or experience other than your own? And the rest of what you said is utter rubbish.

Not to mention that all of that is completely irrelevant regarding someones opinion of art, and that's exactly what mapping is.

Your opinion means jack shit. It is the niche we're targeting not you. I already said your opinion only matters if you understand the niche we're targeting or part of that niche.

Programmers do not count toward creating a game world. He may be a great programmer, but he has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to creating a world via mapping and art.

I don't like how he has this high arrogance about him. Comes in this thread discrediting NeoX acting like he's doing people bad or something. Just piss off and let him try to help people learn game development.

That assumption implies that you think that all programmers are graphically inept. That's a terrible assumption to make.

Arrogance? Ah, I _suppose_ you _totally don't_ do the same yourself…but of course, we'll deal with semantics another time.

First, nobody came in here to explicitly discredit[1] Neox, neither has anybody done so. Nobody implied that he's doing anything bad to people, your subjective [which it obviously is, as you took him calling the maps of Silverdale bad as a personal attack] view took it in that manner.

-Nobody- is trying to stop Neox. If anything, you are being a hindrance[2] to him, as they are only asking questions for the good of anybody else interested in watching, while you're posting things unrelated to the topic.

Now, stop, otherwise I'll have to just remove the lot if you won't take the point.

EDIT: Any more issues, PM me. Don't put it here.

[1] dis·cred·it

Verb: Harm the good reputation of (someone or something).

[2]hin·drance

Noun: A thing that provides resistance, delay, or obstruction to something or someone.

> Defiantly going to be hard to keep up that kinda work on a day-to-day basis, what made you choose such an intense schedule?

I want to know, too. I couldn't think of how you'd be able to have fresh content for each day, and do each day live. I wonder how well rehearsed he is with the streams?

Oh damn, maybe I should watch Neox's stream; I seem to have forgotten my assortment of 32x32 tiles somewhere. /end

PS. There was no "discrediting" concerning him. I simply asked why he felt he had enough authority to warrant him attempting to teach other people anything pertaining to game development. I stated from the very start of this that I felt he had nothing but good intentions and that I had no problem with his attempt. Perhaps I was genuinely interested in seeing some of his work, but after seeing what he did post-live it's unfortunate that it isn't something that I'd personally use as an example for the work I would do.

You just discredited him again…

He is free to teach whatever he wants and you are free to learn from it or not !

Even if his work isn't useful for you it doesn't mean it's not for others.
