***NEW*** - Mirage Legacy is currently undergoing a long-term support plan, you can take part by posting in the new [Voltisoft Subforum](http://voltisoft.com/forums/mirage-legacy-engine) about your latest endeavors with the engine. We'll be releasing tons of information soon!

**What?**

Mirage Legacy is a Custom Version of Eclipse 2.3 returning some of the best source additions from the Eclipse community into one simple but dynamic engine with the basic needs of an ORPG ready for you. Unleash the power of Mirage and Eclipse with one engine that is free and open source now, and forever.

**Why?**

The reason is simple. The history of Eclipse and Mirage are being quickly and easily forgotten by many and the true spirit of Eclipse is being lost. This is a tribute to what it once was and what it can become. Create the game _your_ way with no limits, no restrictions, and open source code.

**What can it do?**

-Open source now, and forever.

:Don't like something? Want something new? Open up Visual Basic 6 and

have your way with it however you'd like. The engine is free, and always will be.

-Rich Event System

:Resembling the system implemented in the RPG Maker series, edit and

customize events to create NPCs and Cinematics like no other ORPG. Create detailed

and rich dialogues and riddles that rival anything out there.

-Quest System

:Create epic quests and adventures with great rewards and challenging tasks of all kinds with

a rich and detailed Quest editor packed in.

-Social Enhancements

:Take advantage of the packed in Guild system, E-Mail system and Various chat channels

included in the engine to give your players every method of communication they'd ever

need, and if you ever need more, the program's built in packet system is clearly understood

and open to edits.

-Combat Enhancements

:Enhance your spell casting, sword slashing experience with a clearly understood pet system

and combat tweaks like auto-targetting, Item consume tweaks and NPC speed options, all packed

on top of the rich combat system. Take the battle to the long-distances with an open and frantic

Projectile combat system integrated into the Weapon editor.

**I have questions!**

Currently you can find me and a FAQ posted over on the official Voltisoft subforum: [http://voltisoft.com/forum/mirage-legacy-engine](http://voltisoft.com/forum/mirage-legacy-engine)

**Where do I download this?**

Nice logo, but you just added bunch of tutorials from here to your CW. There are many alot better CW released here with alot better features. And also not no mention that some of tutorials what you used is buggy (for example pet system). But good luck with it.

I don't think you should use the name Mirage. I think here the spirit of Mirage is being used as a symbol of a free and open source engine, which is not accurate.

In my first interactions with Mirage, 10 or so years ago, I started grinding the pirates and chocobos in a game made with the Mirage engine which Shannara _bought_ from Consty. Within a bit the Mirage engine was released to the public as _closed source_. Not long after, Shannara _sold_ the source to Kael who made PlayerWorlds, which to this day is free and closed source.

I'm not sure what the first iteration of Consty's code as free open source was. Mirage Source, which nowadays is also nothing like the original Mirage, has always been free and open source, but was released years after the creation of Mirage. If I remember correctly, it was basically made free and open source because it fell in so many hands it became somewhat ubiquitous (sound familiar?). The idea of Mirage + Eclipse is redundant, because much of Mirage is still echoed within Eclipse.

Again, thank you very much for sharing your engine (and the time spent on a particularly well-done topic post), but I'm sure you can think of a better handle for a free open source engine than a muddy history.

> You was doing same about my engines, so your are contradicting yourself Growl.

I only made one engine and it was crap to begin with. you're Mirage Miracles or whatever the name was(haven't remembered all the names of all the CVs on here) is looking better than your others.

I never said my engine was great so i am not contradicting myself in no way.

> i can say the same for EO4\. if you don't want ppl talking crap about your engine, then means a cluster of poorly written so

First of all the definition of a 'clutter-duck' engine is a bunch of poorly written source code tutorials nailed together. E.O. 4.0\. doesn't contain any and thus can't be classified as one.

actually i can. you're just putting in useless things and just "disabling them" until the "dev" needs that system. woopdie doo that's totally not called inefficient. it all comes back down to closed/open source accessibility. anywho i don't want to continue this conversation in this topic any longer so if you so desire to reply, please put it as a pm and not a post.

Cleaned the topic.

Disclaimer: Before I have members jumping down my throat I will explain. The discussion went straight to bashing this engine, then to bashing EO 4, neither of which should be here. If you wish to report a problem or bug go for it but degrading an engine because some of its content came from a tutorial completely invalidates your argument.

Thanks

I remember the old Mirage Source. It's actually the engine a company called "CyberConnects LLC" used to create their Dot Hack game about 6 years ago. It got me started on programming, so I could consider it my roots (Not a great root, but still a root). In the spirit of that I am going to download this, and see what the hulla ballo is all about.

Additionally, I've been thinking about donating to the community at large in order to spur some more developments. I may be a programmer, but I tend to be lazy :3

Let me articulate a couple things to you all seeing as there are people criticizing my choice in naming the product.

First the Eclipse name has been coming under fire. With the new management and official engine there is the possibility of changes in the licensing in the name, which nobody here can really confirm.

I've a read a bit about buggy systems here and really my only reply to that is to prove that to me so I can work with it, because really, I'm not going release this without providing support.

At the end of the day I'm getting complaints from people who won't need this or want it. But that's fine, because that's one of many voices to hear for feedback. Those who want this now have it and that's really what we put our stuff out there for. Do I acknowledge the statements made by people like Stein and Zeno? Of course. Do I think branding this under Mirage might be misleading? I'm definitely going to debate myself about it.

Again, People will need it, people won't, but I'll listen anyway.

I really like this engine, 1 it works with some older tutorials like the quest system which I would argue is essential to making a ORPG, and 2 it incorporates the event system which jcsnider did a great job on.

BUGS:

- I cannot activate an event no matter what I do, I press ctrl nothing happens.

SUGGESTIONS:

- Possibly make a quest tutorial or just put a quest in the game that can be activated.

- I suggest adding a transparent backing over the text that you can toggle on and off in the options. (It's really hard to read text with some of the map tiles behind it).

- Add the option for an event to give you a quest.

I am a fan of what you're doing here and can't wait to see fixes and additions.

**Dear Eclipse Community,**

On the behalf of SnowShinobi I would like to address your concerns.

> Is this project abandoned? Hopefully not.

**No, rest assured that the project is still being developed on.**

> did anyone find a fix for the event system bug?

**The event system has been fixed as far as I know and should be released in the next version.**

All things aside, I would like to notify the community that Kevin will be unavailable for the time being as he has things to deal with IRL at the moment.

If anyone needs support, the development team regularly checks our forums and there is a dedicated section for the engine.

In other news, our website has been redone and of course that includes the Mirage Legacy section :)
