(Spoilers aren't spoilers, they're maps, I'm just saving room  ;))
[This assumes you have mapper access or higher]
[If you do not run the server, ask them to]
[If you do, get on then Go to Server>server>Players and select you, click "Give Access", then set the appropriate access level]

OK, first things first, make sure you have eclipse (and the server If your hosting) up and running.
Now, there's one thing that you _must know!_ You ready for this!?!
F1 opens the ["Administration Panel"](http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/3896/adminpanel.png).
now if this wasn't edited, there will be three tabs: "Player", "World", &  "Editor". The one we'll be using is Editor.
Now to learn the buttons. The one's we'll be using (as this is a basic mapping tutorial) are: "Edit Map", "Edit Spells", "Edit Items", "Edit Shops", "Edit NPCs", & "Edit Arrows". But we'll mostly be using "Edit Map".

First things first, warp to an empty map. If your just starting with your own game, warp to map #2\. If not, ask the owner where there's an empty map that you can use. Now if you don't know how to warp, it's: F1>World>Map_Number[Enter # here]>Warp to.
OK, open "Edit Map". (F1>Editor>Edit Map) You should see something like ["this"](http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/9697/201005071629.png) pop up.
This contains almost everything you'll need to map. Now, lets get you familiarized with the top buttons.

* **Save**: This is self explanatory, it saves the map you have. (do this _very_ often)
* **Exit**: If you really mess something up(which your bound to do) you can use this to revert the map to the last save. (again, save often)
* **Properties**: This opens another menu, we'll go into detail about this later. (It lags for a minute when you open it)
* **Fill**: This takes the selected tile and fills the current map with this tile on the selected layer
* **Eye Dropper**: This is the "Copy & Past" of Eclipse. Click this, click a tile (It will select the one one the current layer), and then just click everywhere you want to past.
* **Map Grid**: This toggles a gray grid.
* **Day/Night**: This toggles day and night. (night lags a _ton_)__
* __**Screenshot Mode**: This hides all the extras; players, NPCs, attributes and map name.__
* __**Layers**: This will change the side bar to the one you should see now. we'll go into detail on this later.(["Side Bar"](http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/2938/201005071728.png))__
* __**Attributes**: Changes the side bar to the attributes bar, we'll go into detail on this later. (["Side Bar"](http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/6900/201005071746.png))__
* __**Light**: this is simple, It works like regular tiles, only you can only see them at night (there will be no side bar.)__
__OK, so now that you know what those buttons do (kinda) we'll start our first map! Your map should look like this:

>! ![](http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/4301/201005071819.png)
Now, the first thing you should do is add some ground. Make sure the "layer" is set to ground, (Ground will be below all of it, like regular ground) and "Tile Sheet" is set to "0" (Tile Sheet is the thing that allows you to choose which tile sheet you see. try to use one tile sheet per map, as it might not look right if you don't.). Now if you have this set up right, select the top left ["grass tile"](http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/6921/201005071846.png), and then select "Fill" on the top bar. when it asks you if your sure you want to, say yes. Now your map should look like this:

>! ![](http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/9743/201005071848.png)
Save.
Congratulations, you have your first map. The map is still a little empty though, so lets add some stuff.
First, lets put in a tree =).  a little below the grass there's a tree, you see it? we're going to put that in our map. Now you can see that the tree is made of multiple tiles, and selecting each tile will take too long, so we're going to grab it all at once. This is simple, just hold Shift, and click and drag (keep in mind that you have to start at the top left). Now take your ["tree"](http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/5682/201005071849.png) an put it on the map. Your map should now look something like this:

>! ![](http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/1885/201005071924.png)
Save.
What went wrong? Well, you set the tree to be ground, and there was already ground there. So, first, fix your map and put grass in those messed up spots. Now, go to the "layer" section and switch it to mask. Now, select the tree again and put it on the map. your map should look something like this:

>! ![](http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/2782/201005071933.png)
Save.
Looks good right? Try to walk over it. You walk on top of the tree right? That's because ground, mask and mask 2 are under you.Well, lets get rid of the parts we want to be under (everything but the stump) by right clicking on the tiles. now, select the ["top part"](http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/7057/201005071942.png) of the tree, select fringe 2 (You'll see why two in a bit), and fit it on the stump (If you miss, just right click on the tiles and try again). Your map should look something like this:

>! ![](http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7762/201005071946.png)
Save.
You think your tree's good now? Well try the trunk. You can walk over it and when you do you get your skull cut, right? well, to change this, click on "Attributes" on the top bar. then, choose "Blocked". click on both trunk tiles. you should see a "B" there. It should look like this if you did it right:

>! ![](http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/8533/201005072057.png)
save your work.

OK, this is a working tree, and you can finish your tree(s) here, but you can make your tree(s) cooler (In my opinion) by doing this next step. You may skip it if you wish, but what's the harm in at least reading it, right?

    ~~_________________________________________________________________~~
OK, go to attributes, choose "roof", put in "1", and put them in one fourth of the tree, like [so](http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/7302/201005072204.png). This is the reason you used fringe 2("roof" only hides fringe 2). Now click block then roof again, and do the same thing for the other three corners, only useing "2", "3", & "4". The reason for the 2, 3, and 4 instead of 1 is because when you go on a roof tile, all tiles with the same roof key are activated. [Side Note: [tt]only a player standing on the appropriate roof tile will see the things under the fringe 2, no other players will see under it if  your standing on it but they're not.] Save. Now, if you did this right, you should get this:

>! ![](http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/2843/201005072216.png)
Cool right?
    ~~_________________________________________________________________~~

So, we have a tree in grass, big whoop. Lets add a little more… "substance" to the map with a river! For this, you'll need to go to the 6th tile sheet. We'll use those top ones right now. You see how it seems like there's double of everything? Well right now you'll want to use the ones to the left. Set the layer to ground. Now, make a kinda straight river cutting down the middle of the map. This will require some artistic skill if your new to mapping (Once you get good It's more of a system). Save. Now you should have something like this:

>! ![](http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/6366/201005072238.png)
You know what's missing? movement. this is what your going to use the other "duplicate" tiles for. Set the layer to the first "animation". now, go over the entire river with those new tiles. Save. now if you did it right, you should get this effect:

>! [Sorry, my software and Youtube are _not_ compatible](http://screencast.com/t/MTQ3MDM0MmEt)
Now that your river is "up and running" (pun intended), lets put all the necessary attributes on it. First, put blocks on the outer tile so water (not land). then, fill the inside with NPC avoids. This will make it to where when we add NPCs, there will be no potentially offended Christians and your game will work better (I'm not kidding, these are important). these will keep the NPCs from spawning where you put them. Save. Now, once your done with that, it should come out like this:

>! ![](http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2262/201005072300.png)__

@AlexKuttner:

> So when are you supposed to press F1? im spamming it in every screen and still nothing pops up…

If you read the date, you'd realise that this tutorial is almost two years old. It was made for the old defunct version of Eclipse. Instead of reading this, go read the tutorials by click "Tutorials" in the userbar.
