Helladen
This is a new installer a user has made and works great. Look it up on Google if you want it. Make sure you own Visual Basic 6 if you use this as the disclaimer says.1. Disable Anti-virus software.2. Install VB6WithSp6.msi.3. Install VB61FeaturePack.msi.4. Install MSDNVB.msi.5. Repair VB61FeaturePack.msi.Make sure you uninstall any existing Visual Basic 6 you have and restart, and the VB6.EXE should be in this folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98). Helladen
> This is illegal…Yeah? Microsoft has changed its practices, they don't care anymore about it. They offer free versions for all their languages now. Do you honestly believe anyone here has a legal copy of Visual Basic 6? The language is not even sold anymore! Well, it's then still illegal.

Helladen
> What's the different between 6 and 6.1?It has a silent installer and lots of add ins bundled that improve the UI and functionality. Basically, it will install in 30 seconds rather than 15 minutes with way better performance and stability.> Any sources that verify MS has released the VB6 IDE for free?> > > > No? Well, it's then still illegal.Eventually items go into the public domain, doesn't matter if they are copyrighted or not. Visual Basic 6 is pretty close to being in the public domain in my books, there's really no reason to play hardball on it. Microsoft has dropped the software, there's no reason you need to defend my morality based upon it.Look at all those game systems that people make now and sell. The companies don't care. Know why? The consoles are outdated and not worth their time to sue over. Everything goes into the public domain. Nothing is excluded. No idea or concept is forever owned. It is a disclaimer. Obviously, Microsoft would tell you not to steal it if you asked, but in the general sense it is really unacceptable for them to force this software to be paid only still. It's over a decade old software that has had no updates.
Rob Janes
I doubt you'd get into any trouble redistributing this, given the age of the software and it no longer being sold nor supported by it's developers, legally you can "crack" it for archiving purposes. As for copyright(s), it depends on where you're located. The copyright on VB6, actually will not expire until the year 2248.Also, don't confuse "Public Domain" with abandon-ware. VB6 has become abandon ware, but it will not enter public domain until the copyright expires or Microsoft explicitly states it can now be redistributed freely. Chief
Just because you won't get in trouble for it, does not mean that it's not illegal.

xelander
It's more of a principle, an unspoken rule on this website rather than scared of getting into trouble.
Helladen
Right, I will just tell people to Google it. I'm not directly linking them to it. Regardless, the moral high ground for something not really enforced is just not really that necessary.

Helladen
> Thought this sort of thing was what pms where for…It was to bring awareness to improvements to the Visual Basic 6 IDE. As it stands, even if you buy it, it is unusable pretty much. The way it works is really poor and barely supported. This makes it work flawlessly. Mohenjo Daro
I more meant the forums you can tell people to PM you if they want it, this here should be to advertise to them that you have it.
