Hello guys! Welcome to my second Photoshop tutorial!

_This tutorial is made by **Socuine** and therefore copyrighted by me._

In this tutorial I will teach you how to make an awesome looking (navigation) bar!

The final result should look like this:

Alright, let's begin!

**Step 1:**

Go to File > New to make a new document. Use 350 for width and 150 for height. When your newly created document
has loaded, fill the canvas with #F3F3F3.

**Step 2:**

Let's create the object. Create a new layer by holding _CTRL + SHIFT + N_.
If you done that, click on the _Rectangular Marquee Tool_ on the tool window or simply hit _M_.
Draw a long squared box like shown below.

If you have selected your desired rectangle, hit _ALT + BACKSPACE_ to fill it with a black color.

**Step 3:**

Zoom in on the black square and click on the _Eraser Tool_ on your tool box or simply hit _E_.
Put the size of your Eraser Tool on 1px and make sure the mode is set on _Pencil_. Start erasing each corners
side by 1pixel, see below for a more accurate view of explanation.

Do the exact same at the other side of the black square.

**Step 4:**

Alright, right click the layer where the black square is situated. Right click the layer and hit _Blending Options_.
From there, click on _Gradient Overlay_ and use the following options.

**Step 5:**

Next step! Create a new layer, and start creating a 1px white line inside the squared box! See picture below.

Alright, when you made that inner line, put the layer (containing that 1px line) on overlay and drop the opacity from _100%_ to _25%_.

Your bar should now look like this:

So, is it starting to look like a a bar yet? Haha. Let's continue!

**Step 6:**

Alright, now it's getting a little harder. Create a new layer. Select the _Gradient Tool_ on the tool box or simply hit _G_.
Use white (#FFFFFF) as your foreground color and make sure you select the color-transparant gradient formation.

Select the _Reflected Gradient_ mode ![](http://www.burstingforce.com/user/socks/tutorials/shinybar/shinybar-tutorial-img10.bmp). Create a small reflected gradient on
the square that you made earlier.

![](http://www.burstingforce.com/user/socks/tutorials/shinybar/shinybar-tutorial-img11.bmp)

Now shift the reflected gradient upwards like shown below.

![](http://www.burstingforce.com/user/socks/tutorials/shinybar/shinybar-tutorial-img12.bmp)

When you did that, put the layer where the reflected gradient is situated on _Overlay_ and lower the opacity from _100%_ to _45%_.

It should now look like this:

![](http://www.burstingforce.com/user/socks/tutorials/shinybar/shinybar-tutorial-img13.bmp)

**Step 7:**

Select the layer where your reflected gradient is on and get the _Rectangular Marquee Tool_ again and select 3/4 of the square. See below how.

![](http://www.burstingforce.com/user/socks/tutorials/shinybar/shinybar-tutorial-img14.bmp)

If you done that, hit _CTRL + SHIFT + I_ to invert the selection.

![](http://www.burstingforce.com/user/socks/tutorials/shinybar/shinybar-tutorial-img15.bmp)

Now right click inside the selected area(s). Doesn't matter which, and click on _Feather_. A new window appears, set the feather on _45_ pixels and click OK.
Now hit the _Delete_ button on your keyboard, twice. After following these steps, your reflected gradient should appear like this:

![](http://www.burstingforce.com/user/socks/tutorials/shinybar/shinybar-tutorial-img16.bmp)

Alright, that's it! If done right, you just made your own glossy button! Practise enough and you'll be able to perform this technique in less than a minute.

Just add text on it and it's ready to be used!
