Hey there!

Welcome to my **Third** tutorial. In this tutorial I will teach you how to create tiles using only but Photoshop filters. No third-party brushes, patterns, textures and whatsoever is used!

After carefully following this tutorial, you will be able to make a tile such as this:

which is pretty the basic stuff. If you continue to work on your tile skills, you'll be able to create something like this:

Alright, enough chit-chat! Let's start. :]

**Step 1:**

First, create a new document with width being 150 and height being 150\. Make sure the canvas background is white.

**Step 2:**

Select your _Rectangular Marquee Tool_ (M) and set Style to Fixed Size. Put 32px for Width and Height!

**Step 3:**

Create a new layer above the existing background layer and call it _Core.Grass_, select a space on the canvas and fill that selected space with the color: #5E8F05\. Your canvas now looks like this:

**Step 4:**

Copy and paste the layer you created earlier by selecting that layer and hitting CTRL + J. Rename the layer to Core.Grass-MotionNoise. You now have two identical layers ontop of each other.

**Step 5:**

While selecting the top layer go to **Filter > Noise > Add Noise** and apply the following settings:

After that go to: **Filter > Blur > Motion Blur** and apply the following settings:

**Step 6:**

Now, things are going to be confusing from now on (for newbies). Duplicate the first layer you created that stands above the default background layer by first, selecting the layer and hitting CTRL + J, then rename that layer to Core.Grass-NoiseFX and put that layer ontop of every other layer.

Having done that, select the layer you've put onto. Then, go to **Filter > Noise > Add Noise** and apply the same settings that is displayed in Step 5.

**Step 7:**

Drop the opacity of Layer [Core.Grass-NoiseFX] from 100% to 50%.

**Step 8:**

Next. Create a new layer and make sure it's on-top. Call this layer Core.Grass-Depth. Now, select the _Brush Tool (B)_ and select the following brush:

Having the layer selected, just spray the canvas a bit with black and white like shown below:

![](http://www.burstingforce.com/tutorial/step82tt.bmp)

Now put the layer on Soft Light with about 80% opacity.

**Step 9:**

Almost done! We just need to create a hole-a-like in the grass. It's pretty simple. Create a new layer
and put it on-top. Select the _Brush Tool (B)_ and select the following brush:

Now set the foreground color to #1F3401 and just place that brush mark somewhere on the canvas like shown before:

Finally, put that layer's opacity down to 80% and you're done!

Show me your results. :]
