As a lot of you know I have been around here for some time now, Not many make their own tiles so decided to start to write up a few tutorials.

This tutorial was wrote last week after I got home from the bar. I will be making more later to help more understand how to make custom tiles and hopefully we will start to see more customs being used :).

–------------------Start of the guide as i typed it after bar-----------
I was bored and wide awake at 2:00 AM so decided to write up a tutorial for the forum. Since I needed to make these graphics for Storm of conquest anyways Figured I could explain how to do it with nice Images so more people can try their hand at custom tiles.

The Tile We will learn is a Stone Road, Brick Road Or any other type of road like this.

First open Paint (Yes Im doing it in paint since everyone has paint)

draw out a 32x32 grid or be lazy and download This file...

Once you open this file in paint  (dont lie I know you all are lazy and downloaded it.) you will need to pick your color pallet.

For this Example we will make a rock road tile

I choose these colors for my pallet.

Then I zoom in and draw a rock with these colors(Yep its a sexy rock I know it just rocks your world… yea bad pun)

![](http://claygnomeproductions.com/GfxSchool/PebbleRoad/02.PNG)

Now we make black our back ground(right click on black color) and turn on the Draw opaque and copy and paste the rock all around the middle of a 64x64 sqaure (2x2 tiles)

**Dont forget to leave an extra rock outside of the 64x64 grid**

Next we will reverse the images by moving the green border square onto to the location of the other green border square, same with the reds

Now once again we copy and paste the rock on the grid this time filling it

Its okay to color outside the lines sometimes, sometimes it just feels right, But only on the top or left sides, NEVER DO IT ON THE BOTTOM OR RIGHT. Destruction leads to those that do…

Now we take the Extra we colored over and cut that and move it to the Right side and the top to the bottom

Almost finished :D

Now select you 64x64 tile and push Ctrl+w, for strech horizontal 50, for  strech vertical 50 push okay

Now copy and paste this 32x32 tile on to one of your tile sheets and use it.

Here is and example of how it can look, If you have your terrain tiles where they can mask over roads.
