  8. I'm fairly certain there are. If you read my packet tutorial, you could easily write a small client program that would unlock all sorts of jackassery. Only real way to immunize: native encryption. Difficulty in creating this: Eh, who knows, nobody ever wants to try >.<

    Eclipse error

    Make sure your firewall isn't blocking it. I can't really get into it without blowing you away with technical details on how Firewalls work, but they block by port, and by something called an MD5 Hash. Just, double check your firewall. Is this ALL games, or just one that you could connect to and now can't? Also, try switching ports. It could be that the port being used is now chalked as Malicious, and your firewall is blocking that port. Firewalls do that. And if you're trying to get on at school and suddenly noticing that you can't, the problem is between the keyboard and the chair.
  10. Oops, I guess it didn't take my comment. I had meant to say that it would be tricky, but possible. Also, I have some news that nobody wants to hear. I'm probably going to have to use (wait for it)…SQL. It occurs to me that binary files would be a pain in the ass to maintain for the purposes of data storage, and that there will be a lot of data. I don't want to make the engine resemble VBGore at all, I would hate that, but I may have to use MySQL in the build. If I do this, I will include some videos explaining how to set up and use MySQL. Text tutorials are so limited T.T

I will create one system that could be quickly re-purposed from fresh to make a Pokemon game, or a Yu-Gi-Oh game, or a (god forbid) Magic The Gathering type game, or whatever else you might want to make. The intent is not to create a pokemon game specifically, more, to create a system that you could use to make one if you wanted.
  13. So for as long as Eclipse has existed, there have been requests for a system that would allow a 'Pokemon' style MMO to be created. I stated that I will create this system, and was immediately inundated by input. Apparently, my reputation precedes me =.= It has been made abundantly clear to me that this is something basically everyone would at least like to see for the hell of it. I'll indulge, and create the system. To do this, I will take a specific build that already exists (Probably 2.8) and I will completely re-construct it into a game that supports this manner of battle system. Vague? Good. I'm not going to create a system specifically for Pokemon, Robin has trained me better than that. I'll create a system that can be easily re-purposed to support any number of different types of 'Pokemon-style' games. I need help, as my creativity is suffering, so here's a rather rough sketch of what I'm trying for right now - -Player Character will have combat-unrelated stats; only the 'Pokemon' will have combat related stats. -Player can select from a dynamic number of 'caught' 'pokemon' in an inventory designed to support this. -Two players in a battle execute a script causing them to square off providing a 9x9 grid between the two players. Control will then be shifted to the two 'pokemon' that will be inside this grid. Combat only occurs between 'pokemon', but I will leave the possibility of an exception to this open. -Strength, Fly, Surf, Flash, and Cut will be available as HM style ability **CATEGORIES**. You will be able to make 5 different 'cut' abilities (For example), each designed to cut a different thing, _if you so choose._ -TMs will be available as items. -A quick-slot panel will be used to control 'trainer' actions. -An alternative turn-based combat system will be available, but it will be the same as I described above. The difference will be that a 'pokemon's speed will determine a number of action points it gets in a turn, and these action points are consumed by moving and attacking. When your action points hit 0, OR a timer expires, your turn will end. _N_ consecutive time-out turns in a row ends the battle by default. These are my basic ideas. Give me some input for this, and I'll see what I can do. In addition to these features, I will likely be radically re-structuring 2.8 to run more efficiently. Before anyone says it, yeah, it's probable that I'll give up on 2.8 and move to EO as a base for this. And yes, it will be a public release.

You'll be sharing an IP address with everyone else on the server though, but using a different port. I can provide a unique IP address for an additional $4 per month. Also, I can provide you with web hosting, so you can have your own unique website and domain hosted on my server, but that's price-negotiable. I wish I could provide this hosting for free, but this is a dedicated server I came out of pocket for.   16. Delete all the data files out of the accounts folder (so that folder would be totally empty) and also the map folder on both the client and the server. Sometimes the files have issues with over-writing, so if you delete them, you might be okay.
  17. ES is stable the way a…helicopter is stable. You can still fuck it up by throwing rocks at it. EO is stable the way a Zeppelin is stable...throw at it what you will, it will do mostly nothing. Stay away from incendiaries though. Alternately, EO is stable like a turtle. And everyone likes turtles. EVERYONE.

EE = M1 Garand (Old and prone to failure) ES = M16 (Stable and hard to duck up) E€ = M16 with Scope (my build so far) EO = M2 .50 Cal Machine Gun (A bit complicated, based on an old design, but ultimately the very best you can get) I would feel confident saying EO is the best build in a WHILE.
  19. What OS are you using? Make sure you have write access to the folder you're writing to (if it's read only, it won't work). Also, the maps and accounts are deleted when you restart the computer? Or is it when you restart the server?
  20. I still have the source for WikiWorlds. I create two parallel accesses, one on a scale from 1-5, and the other on a scale from 1-200, and then established a 'difficulty level' in each map that true mappers can edit, while the WikiMappers can tweak the individual maps themselves. I thought it was the tits at the time…
  21. You have to edit source to do that. The quick way would be to replace the tile sets that aren't being used: Tiles7.bmp and Tiles8.bmp. You can also combine multiple tilesets into one, producing a longer tileset, but this isn't advisable as it slows down your load times. To edit the source to add support for over 10 tilesets gets tricky, and not having my laptop handy, I can't walk you through it at this time. If you haven't replaced 7 and 8 yet, I'd highly advise doing that.
  22. I'm inclined to agree. I personally favor the D20 system, since I've been working with it since D&D 3.0, and therefore have gotten into the habit of _thinking_ in terms of D&D. It happens if you play too much, but isn't necessarily unhealthy. A total adaptation is one thing I'd like to do, but that would be very complex. Not impossible, just complex. Perhaps WN can benefit from some of the systems I'm working on. That would give me a warm and fuzzy.
  23. To that end I agree, but what was basically meant by the 6th stat being custom is that Thiefs would have Thiefiness, and Avengers would have vengefulness, et cetera. I wasn't thinking in terms of a well built game, built well with basic elements (such as would be expected from D20), I was trying to emulate the thought patterns of a C- or D+ class user (no offense intended to anyone that picked that option). As for stat-building, that would be my most complex intention, as I intend to support Multiclassing to an extent. I'm also going to try to deviate away from the whole "Points when you level up, points make you strongar" aspect, and move more towards inherited abilities from given classes at given levels, and the possibility of combining these abilities to create an extremely diverse range of possible abilities for a given character at 30th level or so. For some homework, I'm rather fond of WIZ/CLR/Mystic Theurge, but SOR/Favored Soul/Mystic Theurge is unstoppable. Also, compare and contrast WIZ 30 to WIZ 20 ARCHMAGE 10. Your books would be the player's handbook 3.5 and the DM's guide 3.5.
  24. I suppose I could, but I'd rather sock that vote into the normal system. The stat systems' architecture needs to be revised anyway, and I'm thinking of making it entirely soft-coded where the owner would go into the admin panel and would be presented with the option of Edit Stats, making it scalable. That would be tricky though, but not impossible.
  25. What I'd really like is for about 30 more people to vote in the poll, cos the results as of now are pretty interesting. I don't have enough votes to really tell me anything yet, though.
