    Working on 3d

    Well I've decided to move my vikings game towards a 3d viewpoint so I've just started 3d modeling. My first attempt was horrible so I trashed it and this is my 2nd attempt. ![](http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1121/firstsuccessfulmodel.png) Granted I still need to learn texturing and animating so don't make any comments regarding texture. I know the head needs to be reworked but anybody who knows more about modeling feel free to make some suggestions? I don't really know how it all works I'm just kinda learning as I go.

Clearly we know that, we're giving suggestions hoping you can be mature and modify your tutorial to actually help people that are learning instead of giving them second rate shit. Or if it's leather with metal parts to it, that might shine. Leather itself does not really shine like metal. I would give more tips but I don't want you to shit yourself or have an aneurysm. Now shut the fuck up and quit bitching about us actually giving constructive criticism. Nobody bashed you we just gave advice and if you can't spend 5 min to improve your tutorial, then you shouldn't be making a damn tutorial in the first place.

  5. So for some reason, my hard drive now says it needs to be formatted…. However - My wii can still read all the games on the WBFS partition, and even read my movies off the NTFS partition - EASEUS Partition Master can see both partitions and their data - Active Partition Recovery can see both partitions and all the data So it's just operating systems that can't read it? Any idea what to do? Formatting is not an option.
  6. I suppose that's true. Unless the leveling is literally super fast, so you can be like level 20 again in 5 minutes of killing. Kinda like an FPS but turned into a rpg?
  7. i've always thought it was an ok idea, I can't think of any game that's done this so I feel like it'd be pretty original. Plus look at it this way, at the same time, everyone else's characters are dying, you just need to be super careful. It's like playing online poker, you can get a lot of chips pretty quick, but it's always easy to lose them all in a second, but you can always make them back just as fast.

  9. Not necessarily. I've never seen one like mine on here. But yeah, with this whole old school look they all are looking the same to me.
  10. On the side view, when the arm moves back, it looks like it bends back at the elbow. You need to shift the shoulder too.
  11. the walk seems off. I have a hard time telling but it looks like the arm sways in unison with the leg on the same side of the body. maybe make the leg further away a darker shade so we can differentiate incase I'm wrong. If i'm not wrong, then you should note that the arm sways in unison with the opposite leg. The style is beautiful but the animation seems off.
  12. Yeah i felt the same way, I'm gonna go back and make the transition from the water to the small-rocks-ground-tile and then throw those in some to kill the repetitiveness.
  13. ![](http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/825/newforesttiles.png) unfortunately I haven't had the time or internet to make/submit a map for the mapping contest, but it did give me the inspiration to start new tiles. ignore any mapping errors, and the waterfalls without the splash effects, this is just a quick map I use for trying new tiles.

  15. Hmm, the shape needs to look more like a rip, right now it just looks like a blob. and save in .png format so you don't get all the artifacts on the edges
  16. Haha, I didn't get that idea, I knew what you meant. The splitting streams is actually divide-able into two halves so i'll make a translucent version of them for use with small streams and whatnot. The splashes on the rocks were part of my original plan, didn't realize that had such an impact though, they really complete the rushing effect.
  17. yeah I get what you mean kusy. ![](http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/7528/waterfallexample.png) Hopefully one of the last updates to this crap that I do lol. getting fed up of waterfalls now. tweaks I made: - made the base of the cliff transition into the deep water tile instead of the shallow water tile. - made the waterfall lighter to look more like rushing water - added the splashes on the rocks in the wall - even though it's just a map edit, made the actual body of water deeper. Same here Tyr, worked on this game and had the idea for so long I just can't let it die lol. And thanks for all the criticism kusy!
  18. Lol thanks mike. Yeah the edge on the right side was my fail attempt at pulling it off the side of the cliff, I think I thought of a better way though, I'll try it out and post another example. And the straight left edge is why I never wanted to do a huge wall of water in the first place lol. You think it needs another highlight or another dark shade? EDIT– just realized the left side is perfectly straight because I accidentally cut off the left edge of the waterfall lol EDIT 2-- completely forgot my tiles can be translucent... so with the edited cliff base and waterfalls, what looks better? opaque or translucent? ![](http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/4576/waterfallcomp.png)
  19. literal lol. yours don't have the same effect for you? you have any critique for the update? I think i managed a better effect at the base of the waterfall this time. Still trying to figure out how to pull it off the side of the cliff better.

  22. Haha, yeah I know that, it's so that the one that does tile doesn't look too repetitive. I meant it not to tile perfectly. It doesn't look as noticeable when I decorate the ground

  24. The fact that there's too many splits? or that there's nothing there to split them right now? @ Anna, I suppose you're right, I'm gonna start working on adding depth to it now. If yall feel there's just too many splits I may make a main waterfall and have this on the side of it or something. I hope the gameplay does too, if I do everything I plan I'm sure it will and I'm sure it'll be a refreshing change to the typical mmo that many people in the game creation world will appreciate. for right now I'm trying to do all the coding myself, hopefully I can get a lot done like that if not all of it. The only part of the programming I'm not 100% sure about is the networking, idk if I'm making it optimized enough. If all else fails I'll just make a great RPG out of it lol. EDIT- @Kusy -- hmm... I guess that makes sense, I need to make it more powerful but still with some gaps. Cus I don't want just a huge block of water falling off a cliff, looks tacky and cliche. One branches out more, one just has initial gaps.
