  1. Thanks for the help. I'm still quite stuck, though. Here's what I've done: Page 1: Player variable checked, and variable 1 is set to 0\. Walkthrough not enabled. Page 2: Player variable checked, and variable 2 is set to 1\. Walkthrough enabled. This results in the player being able to walk through the event block at all times. What I want, though, is for the player to be able to walk through the event block whenever the player's variable is set to 1, and have it be impassable when a player's variable is set to 0. I've included respective pictures for page one and two. Thanks for the help thus far!
  2. I'm trying to set an event that is walkthrough enabled when a player's variable 1 is set to 1, but walkthrough disabled when a player's variable 1 is set to 0 (I'm trying to make a gate impassable unless the player talks to the NPC (event) sitting next to the gate). I'm a noob at this stuff, so I'm probably doing something wrong. The question is, what am I doing wrong…? The problem I come tois when I set (what I consider to be) the right details within the event editor and move route, the event block doesn't let a player walkthrough at all, even if the event is initially checked to be walkthrough enabled. I've attached a picture with the event details below. If necessary, I can upload a video is this isn't a clear enough explanation.
  3. I'm looking for someone to complete the work of my last programmer. He completed the system that I requested, and fixed a few of the bugs, but left some pretty significant problems before he fell off the face of the earth. A bit of context behind my game, it's designed to be used as a way to study the effects of video games in the writing classroom (I'm a teacher and I'm working on my doctorate. My dissertation is going to study these types of effects). The purpose of the game (one purpose, anyway) is to add an entertainment value to writing education for high school students. As a student, you'll choose a character and one of three writing classes. The student plays through the game as that certain class, and is taught how to write in-game. As the game progresses, the students learn more complex writing skills through the quests he completes; a quest is given, and the player is given a writing prompt that has to do with the context of the game (let's say, "In your opinion, are the Gulvarians preparing for war?". The player would then write the essay, and the teacher (who is given certain admin rights) logs on, grades the essay, and gives the player exp based on their writing performance. I've included a video to help explain what I'm needing (http://youtu.be/8UtFWV2fn44), but here's a text explanation as well: 1.) When the teacher grades the essay in the /gradeessay window, the completion ? disappears for the student, and the student is then asked to complete the essay again (instead of giving the comments, grade, and career exp). If the student completes the essay again, the ? comes back up, but then does the same thing when the teacher grades the essay. 2.) Probably related to the first issue, but while the student is waiting for the essay to be graded, the student is able to do the essay over and over again. 3.) Experience isn't being awarded when a player completes a "kill NPC" quest. Instead, the palyer will kill the monster and go back to the NPC, but nothing will happen (no exp is given). If the player goes and kills the monster again, he is then given the exp from the quest once he kills the monster for a second time (and the player doesn't have to go to the NPC to get the EXP - it's given as soon as he kills the monster). 4.) Essays are reappearing in the /gradeessay window after the server is shut down. When the server is restarted, all of the essays that were previously graded now reappear. (the red server alert text isn't shown, though) 5.) Is it possible to add multiple quests per NPC (based on level - i.e. level 1: quest #1, level 2: quest #2) 6.) Could you add more than 255 spots for the quests? (Under the "Quest" tab in the Admin panel, I can only create 255 quests. Can we add more?) 7.) (Not included in video) I would like to have a hyperlink option added to the quest building system. Ideally, I would like the quest builder to have the option of inserting a hyperlink into the quest. The idea is to provide videos for the "teaching quests" where the student is learning a new writing skill. The player would then accept the quest, and while completing certain parts of it, be able to click the link and view a video in YouTube that would help explain the concept that is being taught in the quest (e.g., comma usage, paragraphing, or voice) I've been working with several programmers over the last two months, but they all fail to complete the project for one reason or another. If you can complete this project quickly, I'll gladly pay a higher price. I'm on Skype, too: mike_lee_03. If you're interested, let me know a goal deadline and a price, and we'll see what we can agree on.

  5. Nice - thanks! How will this affect performance?
  6. I'm looking for suggestions on how to input a really unique aspect into my game. The idea is that the game's an educational writing MMO in which players are participating within a traditional-style MMO, but they are also given crafting classes that teach them writing skills, and they are also given quests to help them practice each skill. While the idea is that the teacher will teacher the content first, I want to give players the ability to learn the content via the game alone (plus I don't want kids to have to wait for a lesson before playing the game and going to the next level). Here's where the idea of inputting a hyperlink into the quest textbox comes in - and thus my question. What I'm hoping to do is somehow link a player to a video outside the game - or other comparable ideas. Originally I wanted to actually insert a video into the quest textbox, but I don't think that's possible (although, if it is, I'd love to do that too if you could explain how). Because I don't think that's possible, I decided to somehow input the link within the text, and then have the students click the link inside the quest box, then have the link open up on their browser. The problem with this idea is that I was told you can't input hyperlinks into vb6. Another suggestion that was made was to use a windows api that opens the browser from the command prompt, but it was also expressed that this idea would take a toll on the performance. Of course, there's always the idea of just typing the link into the quest textbox and then having the student copy/paste into their browser, but I'd like to make it a little more user friendly than that. I'm open to all ideas - and don't be afraid to suggest something that's rather creative…
  7. Great, thank you! Now I just need someone who can do it…and a price...
  8. Well what I'm thinking is just add a save-able pop-up window at that part of the quest at the NPC. I was hoping this was something that could be added to the current quest system.
  9. I had considered this to begin with, but because the students are writing sentences, paragraphs, n essays above level 10, I would need a teacher to go in and grade their work. Otherwise, I'd have to set keywords for the game to look for, and that doesn't really assess writing. My school is using a program currently that does that, and it gives students good grades for writing n essay that consists of only a few words… It's just not very effective . That's why I'm looking for someone to program something so specific.
  10. Stupid auto correct and lack of reading my work… Corrections to my last post: Methods for medics Xp for Dp "Then the student could go back..." Where I said "then the teacher could go back..."
  11. Oh, not eclipse 3d. I haven't decided a 3d engine yet, since that's not going to happen for a while, but I'm thinking Unity at this point for the 3d engine. Like I said, though, I'm not too worried about that part yet. I'm not too familiar with the medics for programming something like this, but I was thinking that a students work could be saved to the NPC, and then the teacher, who has admin rights, could go to the NPC and look at all essays saved to that particular NPC. Then the teacher could go back to the NPC the next day, and get an addition amount of Dp based on what the teacher awarded for the essay. If the grade is bad, the teacher could also reset the quest. Thanks for the comment.
  12. A couple of colleagues and I are working towards developing an MMORPG that centers on writing education. I'm looking to get a quote from someone on how much it would cost to develop a questing system that allows a player to go on quest, and then be prompted by the quest giver (upon completion of the quest) to write a short answer or essay (or possibly fill-in-the-blank/multiple choice at the lower levels). I'm envisioning a simple pop-up windows for the student to write in, and upon completion, submit the essay to the npc and receive a low amount of set experience points. I would also need an admin panel (or addition to the current admin panel) that allows the teacher to log in and see the student's completed work. Once the student submits the essay (or other work), the teacher would then need the ability to award a custom amount of experience points to the player based on how well they did on the essay. I would need a bit more than this, but this is the general synopsis. Feel free to contact me or comment below to get more information. I'm looking to discuss a price that works for both of us, and once we hit the green light, we'll go from there. I'm running eclipse origins 2.0, and once we get this prototype running and tested, we'll then be moving to a 3d model. As far as that goes, I would prefer someone efficient in c++ (or comparable) so that we can work together on mark2 as well. Here's our website: www.TheGardenOnline.net
  13. Lol, no worries. Thanks for the reply!
  14. Hey all, I'm trying to find out if there is a way to delete a map from the top down. I know that when I resize a map in the map preferences, it expands/contracts from the right to left and bottom to top. What I'me trying to do is resize a map, but save the contents that are in the bottom right without having to re-do the whole thing. Basically, is it possible to delete just the top half of a map without messing up the bottom? Thanks! PS. Pardon my hand-writing on the attached image…
  15. Awesome suggestions, guys. Thanks for the help!
  16. Might you know of any tutorials or suggestions to help me create something like this?
  17. PS. I realize that probably isn't Eclipse, but whatever version of eclipse would help me reach this… awesome.
  18. I just saw this UI and it's perfect. Any suggestions?
  19. So here's another question… since I haven't started work yet, is there a better version of eclipse that would give me cleaner, more open feel (and perhaps be easier to use)? I suppose I'm asking, would you suggest another version of Eclipse? I just saw this UI and it's perfect. Any suggestions? **Attached Thumbnails** [![](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/uploads/monthly_05_2013/post-82727-0-11705900-1368974105_thumb.png)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=812) PS. 20. I… I love you... Lol, that's great! Thanks! If there's a tutorial for further customizations, though, I would appreciate any practice in customizing before I really get to work. Thanks again, DarkMatchFlame.
  21. Well I can't say exactly what I'm looking for, but I can generalize. I would like pop-up up windows instead of the character screen, inventory, etc being on the right side of the screen, and a movable chat window, rather than a static chat-box frame in the lower left. Other than that, I'm really just looking to give it a more open feel, and more up-to-date looking bars. I know I need VB6 - I'm looking for a tutorial on how to do this through vb6, not a grocery list of things I need. I suppose what I'm looking for is a tutorial so I can double-check myself to ensure I'm doing things correctly. I have a basic understanding of vb6, but I'm new and don't want to go through the trial-and-error, if possible.
  22. I'm just trying to find a decent tutorial for customizing the UI in EO2.3\. Does anyone have one off hand, or can give me some pointers? I've been looking online for a good tutorial aaallllll day, Napoleon.
  23. Nevermind, I'm a full retard sometimes. I got it working. Thanks guys.
  24. So I got everything done as described, but the program just closes when I try and register a new account. Any suggestions? Possibly an issue with firewall settings? When I put in an incorrect ip address, it just says the server is down. When I put in the right one, the game just closes - no error, no warning, no nothing.
  25. The link's gone bad, murphy! Any tip on a working link?
